Orphan (2009)
No masterpiece, but unique story
When I saw the first scene (the hospital), I automatically started to think that it was something like "Unborn", stupid and meaningless. The first 20 minutes were boring, because I still didn't know what kind of film I was dealing with, but after the first murder, I got interested and decided to watch it to the end.
The story is simply shocking and may even cause you to be more cautious when dealing with little kids! Maybe they're not kids at all! I cannot say this film was a masterpiece. If you're going to watch it, it's mainly because of the story. It's a novel one. The film is very simple and the events take place in winter, so it might make you feel a bit sleepy. There are no gruesome scenes or even blood. The film lasts two hours and it makes it even more boring.
If you are interested in watching a seemingly little kid commit murder, you're going to love this film. There are no plot holes. The dialogues are OK, although the way the husband ignores his wife's warnings will start to get on your nerves.
This film is not suitable for children at all and it contains mature content.
If you wants to see a film with a coherent plot that makes sense, this is a good choice. If you want to see blood and gruesome kills, save your money.
Drag Me to Hell (2009)
WOW...Just WOW
"Drag me to hell" is easily the best classic horror produced for years. If you wanna experience constant fear, you've come to the right place!
Don't be misled by the title! There is no single scene depicting hell in this movie except for the last brief scene maybe.
This is definitely worth seeing not once, not twice, but more! The positive point about the protagonist is her great but innocent looks, so that you can sympathize with her during her turmoil.
This movie is far from even trying to teach a moral lesson, cos you are normally NOT dragged into hell by making a single mistake!
This film is awesome. Don't miss it!
The Final Destination (2009)
Horror all along the way!
OK, I'm Iranian, and we buy hundreds of films for a very cheap price in Iran, so I am easily satisfied by whatever horror movie there is to see, because I can watch hundreds of them for only a few dollars. You pay much more money, so you might expect the film to be something really special to satisfy you.
As for the movie all I can say is it is definitely one of the most enjoyable films. I had never watched a movie 20 times. This time I did! I only watch horror films, and I dare say this was the most exciting among all 2008-2009 movies.
My only complaint however is about the short length. It's so short that I decided to save it on my cell phone.
Other than that the deaths are much more complicated than they were in the previous final destination series and very well thought out. The first death was lame though! The 3D deaths were top-notch and make you feel the pain one might feel when crashed into pieces without depicting gross gory scenes.
The idea of dying with water was a new one. The car-wash scene was particularly of interest.
Also, this time the protagonist can see farther into the future and each time you wonder if the characters really died or not! From this point of view the ending was totally unpredictable especially when you learn that the two girls don't really die in the movies! Also being extruded and crashed by a escalator mechanism was a horrible and at the time intriguing idea! I will be more careful the next time I use an escalator! My suggestion: Go see it! Enjoy the 3D deaths. Enjoy the complicated death plans and sit at the edge of your chair wondering what happens next!
PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal (1996)
P.S.I Factor in Iran
I live in Iran and I must say I've never been so "obsessed" with a T.V show / movie as I was with P.S.I Factor.I bought the original DVDs after the series on T.V were over.Actually I would go into some sort of depression if I just missed one episode! In Iran it was continuous and very well dubbed. The voices in the dubbed Persian version were surprisingly identical to the ones I heard in the original show! My favorite character in the series is definitely Colin Fox (as Dr.Anton Hendricks). I don't know why but every time I saw his face or heard his voice, his patience and the way he treats other people, I get a feeling like I wanna be like him! Our neighbor looks like him (I can't tell them apart!!) and every time I come face to face with him, I'd like to tell him how much I love him, but I don't! Cos it's stupid "I love you because you look like my favorite actor in my favorite T.V show?" come on! Anyway, It's too bad that the series were of a remarkably low quality, if not terrible. It was obviously a low budget show, but in my mind no movie and no T.V show EVER produced can beat it! Other movies, no matter how interesting and well built they are, are DOOMED, YES DOOMED TO be forgotten! But this one just kept me wondering if all those interesting stories actually happened in the real world? I used to read a lot of books about paranormal events, so I know for a fact that some of the stories were true (Like that of human combustion), or moving plants, which are believable, but I wonder if the reason they offered in the series to explain those events were scientific or came straight from the mind of the script writer? To me it sounds to be the second case! The stories in season 1 were quite believable, but as the series went forward, I could sense a lot of fiction coming into the show. Some of the fictional episodes were really interesting, like the one in which Anton Hendricks goes missing in an arch and his wife gets back possessed with a demon. Some episodes were frightening and full of tension like "Bad Dreams" or the episodes in which Connor Doyle was killed and a fake one was back in the fourth season! I don't like the way the series ends, they could have done much more to develop the characters.I'd really embrace an American version of P.S.I Factor, if you will, but with the same Canadian actors and actresses! Special effects could have been much better. Anyway, I still watch P.S.I Factor and I enjoy it! Oh and I'm really happy that I know English so good that I can understand over 95% of the conversations! Please produce the 5th season too!!!! :)
