Apache Junction (2021)
Recommended film
I expected another oater but I was immediately caught up in the premise. It is kind of like a grimdatk western. No one is absolutely good or bad and the violence isn't gratuitous. It also reminded me of Unforgiven where actions have consequences. In the end, some people rise above their situation and others pay for their actions.
See: The Truth About Unicorns (2021)
Interesting premise and decent storyline.
Some folks state that the actors and actresses are faking their lack of vision. This review is from a scientist standpoint.
A blind person's other senses (in this modern day) aren't any better than others who can see... but they depend on them more. With a genetic affliction of lack of vision, the other senses would be superior. Marghra can hear her sisters heartbeat (and that of her child). Hand and mouth sounds show the blind where to focus but the blind are still near powerless against hashashins.
Now to the fighting. Notice how Baba Voss makes circles of sound with his weapons as he listens. ANY sound not his is where an enemy is and with that sound reference, he then has a location reference and strikes quickly. That would be viable because as I said, the other senses compensate for lack of vision.
How would they tell friend from foe? I don't think bathing is a common occurrence amongst the humans so a jumped up sense of smell would detect a stranger. The hashashins are silent as they take even more advantage of sound information.
Something interesting for the future? The blind people all seem to have heavy duty cataracts. Imagine someone with cataract removal skills in the mix...
Blind People: You have not killed us!!
Eye Surgeons: No... we have made you into what you fear and hate the most... Witches!!
