Extremely Disappointed
10 October 2008
First, let me say I loved Feast. It was stylish and was just a breath of fresh air. Feast II: Sloppy Seconds was indeed that - a sloppy second! I understand that this was an attempt at horror comedy as opposed to the first which focused more on scares but I didn't find anything funny in the sequel. Any movie that resorts to having almost every character gag or vomit at some point in the movie definitely loses its credibility as being a sequel to one of the better low-budget horror releases for the last few years. I had no connection to any of the characters and you saw way too much of the creature. In Feast, you didn't see as much and that is what made it so great. In Feast 2, the monsters look like men wearing rubber costumes. It even had a poor quality feel. The first one didn't feel that way even though it was low-budget. I'm really hoping that they salvage this series with the third film because the second one did not hold up to the parent film. Some want to call it slap-stick but I just found it stupid. One of the only enjoyable qualities of this film was Honey Pie but even then, I still didn't understand the point of her character because she did nothing but stumble around the film with no clear purpose. Definitely not worth what I spent on it.

Broken (III) (2006)

Interesting Hostage Film
16 July 2008
Broken tells the "true tale" of a woman abducted by a wilderness-loving mad man. This low-budget horror film was touted as "unusual, cruel, captivating and startlingly memorable". I would definitely say that some of the mad man's tactic's are cruel and unusual but the film itself is not very memorable. Having said that, the film is still decent and has it's squeamish moments. The deliberate pace of days gone by with the victim under her captor's grasp set a story of solid creepiness but at times I did get bored waiting for more to happen. It was some decent acting with very little location to work with. I was not completely disappointed but I was also not overjoyed. The film definitely did do a good job of making me, as a viewer, frustrated with the inability to escape the kidnapper's wrath but some of the more humane moments did not seem real. This is a vicious game of survivor and, if anything else, serves up some terrifying moments. Savor them because they are few and far between but the film itself is good. Good but not great!

Inside (2007)

Gory, Demented, Bloody!
16 July 2008
I am addicted to the new crop of French horror films that are coming out. After High Tension, I needed something just as sadistic, brutal and terrifying...here was that answer, Inside. The movie takes place on Christmas Eve with an expectant widow just passing time as she approaches the hour when she will go to the hospital to give birth. Before that can happen a shadowy stranger shows up at the door - the stranger's motive, taking the pregnant woman's baby at no cost. There is no cost spared when it came to blood in this film. By the time the film is over everything seems to fall under a crimson hue. The stranger is vicious and uncaring - not allowing anything or anyone to get in the way of the goal. This movie is a no-holds gruesome coaster ride to the end, no one is safe and nothing is sacred. To sum it up from a true lover of horror, this movie was awesome.

Little Horror Movie Goes A Long Way
16 July 2008
I must say that I really thought I was going to be disappointed with this movie but I was pleasantly surprised. The plot itself was pretty standard - innocent people stumble across a hilly-billy house and trouble follows. Familiar plot aside, I have to admit that this was a great survival flick and once it got started, the gore was never-ending. The death scenes are pretty realistic and creative. I cringed and I don't often do that. Once the real fighting starts, I couldn't help but to root for the victims and almost feel sorry for the bad guys. It is savage and unrelenting. The acting was pretty decent by all involved and the mood was always dark and sadistic. I could watch this over and over! Definitely worth a watch and although it is not on the same level as movies like Wrong Turn and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, if you enjoyed those films, this movie should definitely satisfy your hunger for horror!
