Armored Car Robbery (1950)
An unusual role for a District Attorney
A good early killer crime flick from director Richard Fleischer, who really hit his straps 20 years later with the classic sci-fi "Soylent Green" (1973).
This film noir is well plotted, has a great storyline and is interesting and absorbing throughout. At 67 minutes it achieves its required result with very little padding.
Brisk performances from the gravel voiced Charles McGraw who had made it big in TV in the mid-50's with "The Adventures of Falcon".
Tough blonde Adele Jergen, who had a tragic life off screen, is great as the lover of gangland leader William Talman who made a career as the District Attorney who always lost to Perry Mason.
If it ever comes on one of the movie channels do yourself a favour and see it.

Perfect Romance (2004)
served with a tonne of saccharin
Depressingly poor direction from Douglas Barr, better known as the veteran co-star of the terrible TV series "Designing Women", is one of the film's major faults.
It also has a most unlikeable syrupy script from Allison Burnett who repeated the crime in her next film "Autumn in New York".
It is sad to see an actress of Kathleen Quinlan's quality wasted in this drivel; Lori Heuring's acting falls way short of the mark.
The only saving grace is Brit television actor Henry Ian Cusick attempting to make a very simple role somewhat complicated. He went on to co-star in the wonderful "Lost" series.
Avoid this at all costs.

Shadow of the Vampire (2000)
biting, behind the scenes drama
This is one of the most awesome behind the scenes in film-making dramas that I have seen. Directed by rock video exponent E ELIAS MERHIGE whose career has regrettably failed to kick on.
Television writer STEVEN KATZ, obviously a lover of vampire films, has written a wonderfully quirky historical script that gives the term 'action in film-making' new meaning.
Wonderfully acted by MALKOVICH as director MURNAU, an unrecognizable DAFOE is very good as method actor MAX SCHRECK.
German co-star UNO KIER is amusing as the harried producer who feels that his reputation will be ruined.
