Les quatre cents coups (1959)
I frekin love this kid
Obviously this kid was born into a situation that didn't fit his needs as a young adolescent boy, and I don't even think that he was a bad kid. But he didn't have a role model to show him how to be good, at no point in the movie do we see his mother or father doing anything positive. So it wasn't like he was always doing wrong, it was more like he didn't know how to do right. For example when he stole the typewriter if was for survival, and when he realized he couldn't do anything with it he didn't just leave it in the street, he tried to do good and got severely punished for it. It was a lesson for him, don't do good. For some reason I would back that kid every day of the week, and if he were a real kid I would want to be his big brother.

I can't tell
This is one of those rare situations where you can't really tell how you feel. Throughout this whole movie we continually get slapped kicked and punched by our emotions. There is no possible way we can all feel like the character in this movie, or even try to understand what he is going through. But if there was one possible way for the director to make us feel what he felt the director provided it for us, If there was one, and only one way for the movie to be directed and it definitely did that. There were points in the movie to where I had to turn my face away because the cruelty was just too much. He didn't even have to tells us, hey look at what these people did don't you hate them. NO he just told the story from a totally subjective view and sat back and let us draw our own conclusions.

cool
OK the part of the movie where there were things eating each other was really cool, and I wish I knew how long it took for those effects to be done. I saw some symbolism in the characters that were eating each other. I think the character with all the books and school supplies represented a part of our culture of people that took the extra step, and continued school and career. And the one with all the food and kitchen supplies represented all the women that didn't continue school and became home makers, and the one with all the tools represent the men that didn't continue school and represent the workign class of people. And the actions show how they sometimes clash. I also Liked the clay man and woman, and how they begin to fight when neither want their creation. It kinda reminded me of that guy that was picked last to play kick ball in school, and how no one wanted him on his or her team.

Keeping us grounded.
I love how this movie keeps us grounded, and makes up realize how sometimes we can get carried away as a society in our lust for money and power. It is so easy for us to get consumed and change who we are based on society and the pressures of our economy. We watched Perham go from a young innocent boy to out of control young man. He forgot who he was and ended up loosing everything he cared about because of it. I think the main turning point in his life is when he learned that his girlfriend had cheated on him and the the baby she was carrying could possibly belong to someone else. This is the first time we see him drink, and the first time we see him become cruel. I think that is was actually turned in from innocent to not innocent. He did steal and break laws, but it was for the purpose of helping his family and his girlfriend. But after he finds out the bad news, it became about getting more money and power. His intentions shifted from his family to his self.
La otra conquista (1998)
powerless, and enraged
This is one of those movies that makes a person feel angry and powerless at the same time. While watching this movie I could feel my heart beating faster and my fist crunching. For example the part where Thomas was getting beat, and then the guy beating him wanted to take advantage of his power even more and started beating him with a chain, it just reminded me of the passion of Christ for some reason. Another example is when we found out that the woman killed herself, but it wasn't vary clear about what happened to the baby, or maybe thats just some symbolism, maybe we are supposed to think where are, or what happened to the people that decided to keep their blood pure from the Spanish. These types of movies keep me in my place, they help me to see what human beings are capable of and keep me grounded, and remind me that we are all humans and that we cant judge others peoples actions or beliefs. Because that is what they are Other Peoples Beliefs.
Ran (1985)
vengeance of a woman
I think it is so interesting how throughout this whole movie people thought there were making their own decisions, when in actuality they were being manipulated. The father was manipulated and betrayed by his own men, or should I say man; when his adviser told him to go to one of the castles, but when he got to the castle there was a trap and there was a battle, or more like a slaughter. The outcome of that was the father loosing his whole following of men and soldiers. While the other brother and the king of that particular castle got killed. which only left two brothers, but by the end of the movie there was only one of the brothers left, who was going to die anyway. And by far the best manipulator was the older brothers new wife, who was fueling his lust for more power, with her lust for revenge.
