Memento (2000)
10/10
best original style of movie I have seen
27 February 2009
Just imagine how interesting and admirable is the script, where beginning of the movie is resolution of the whole story, which you realize only at the end. The idea itself about a man with very short memory is very catching and unique. The whole film is unique - the story and the way it is shown. This movie is great example of when something experimental and original is not tired out or exaggerated, but is presented in naturally simple way, it will always be something very successful. I have seen people who doesn't like it at all, but I presume that these people simply cannot or don't want to hold their attention to something more complex than easygoing Sunday movies, as a result of which the whole story of the movie going backwards is simply lost.

Quarantine (2008)
8/10
definitely not boring
12 February 2009
May be my vote is so high, because I haven't seen the original, however it makes my judgment more objective, because I didn't have to compare anything except other horror movies, which use cheap camera from first person, which seems like is a new trend of all horror movies. And this is the only thing I don't like - may be the movie would not be so capturing if it would be taken in classic style, in other words, in my opinion such technique does not make so much effort from the director to make the scenes scary. On the other hand, due to lack of frame cutting there is very high pressure on actors. Whatever some here comment that they did not like the play of leading actress, I think she was very good, surprisingly good for quite unknown actress. Perhaps many thought that those hysteria scenes were exaggerated, but I'm sure that people in similar situations act exactly so disconnectedly. It seems that Jay Hernandez is slowly gaining his future popularity and I have nothing against it, he has quite good potential.

One of the Top 10 comedies ever seen
29 July 2008
After seeing advertisement I thought that it will be another experimental movie for those who usually go to see such movies, because they want to prove that they are different. Although the film is not for absolutely everyone, it is overwhelmed with interesting humor, I emphasize - interesting humor. Therefore it probably would not seem funny for those whose best comedies are American Pie like comedies, where top jokes are basically about sexual humiliation, like being spotted naked on the street, being busted with fat/old woman in bed, having strong kick in the balls from some small kid, etc. The whole quality of jokes is in dialogs, because actually there is almost no action. Talking about message of the film, it is very narrow - there is not such thing as good lies, because once they are discovered, the consequences are much worse. However, in my opinion, the movie was more about something else - the main idea was to show the culture shock of American guy being unable to understand how can so many things seem normal for one nation which is not acceptable for Americans. I'm European, and actually as far as I have observed Americans and french in real life and on TV, I believe that French way of living was exaggerated (at least in the limits of one family), but the reaction of American guy to such things was very typical, typical in a way - how such things can be perceived by person, who lives in society which is living in such strong frame of behavior and standards of what is right and wrong, where reputation is more important than emotions. No offense, I'm not moralizing anything, just comparing the difference of stereotypical trends between the nations.

Fight Club (1999)
10/10
My most favorite movie
28 May 2008
almost 10 years have passed and I have not seen better movie than this. Many people are mistaken when they think that this film is all about fighting and nothing more. The truth is that it contains the most interesting and useful moral as you can learn in any other movie. In a few words the moral is that a man can obtain freedom (and therefore happiness) only when he/she has given up his needs and fears, that most of us are living according to society standards, living according to the style that we hate and in front of which we are actually made ourselves dependant. I have seen it more than 10 times and always noticed new ideas which are worth to think about, and most of viewers, who watch this movie many times, have said that they experience the same experience. I have also read Fight Club book and honestly and liked the movie better - this doesn't happen often - David Fincher did excellent job - the film has very unique and accordant style without exaggerations and the crew was very successfully build, actor play is faultless, there is nothing you would want to change.

better than looks in commercial
27 May 2008
I don't know why the advertisers put the most typical, long ago many times seen jokes, but the movie itself is much better than commercial. Of course, since the movie is tended to collect money from as large portion of audience as possible, there are also a lot of teenager kind of jokes. But after all it was good entertainment since there was also a lot of original humour. In addition, as you know romantic comedies usually irritates men (mostly) with oversweet and commonplace story, especially the ending. Fortunately director took decent care of it - the story was shown closer to reality (than usually comedies do) and the ending did not seem too banal. Overall - better than average comedy.

worst Spielberg's movie
27 May 2008
Usually Spielberg's name is recognized as a brand which always guarantees good quality. Indiana Jones 4 is definitely exception. The movie is full of illogical mistakes, events are full of unreal moments and the script is childish. The taste after the movie is typical sense of being diddled out of money by the use of reputation of previous parts. The only good words can be dedicated to actors (especially LaBeouf and Blanchett), some visual effects and quite unusual outcome (usually possibility of aliens or other mysteries are rationally explained at the end). If you are so curious or you want to see it to fill the checklist, then better choose to rent it or rather wait to see it on TV, otherwise it is not worth the time, nor money.
