A Place to Call Home jumps the shark in season 6
18 October 2019
Seasons 1 - 5 were really great. This was one of my favorite shows and then season 6 came along. What a disappointment! The show turned into a soppy soap opera. The writers just lost it. Season 6 is the very definition of "jump the shark". Too bad.

Abyssmal acting
6 February 2018
I quit halfway through the first season. The story is interesting but the acting leaves a lot to be desired. Effects are good. The script is also sometimes just silly. It is hard to keep track of who is who which I know is the pint but makes for difficult watching. The woman who plays Tak's sister is such a bad actor that she is embarrassing to watch. She really ruins the entire series.

A HUGE waste of time

Valerian is one of the biggest disappointments in science fiction ever. Trite story, abysmal acting, silly dialog - a giant extravaganza of special effects serving no end at all. I wish I could get back the two hours of my life I wasted. There should be a warning attached to this excuse for a film that if you are over about 25 years old watching this disaster might be dangerous to your mental health. What was Besson thinking? Ripping off Star Wars with yet another movie? There is Jaba the hut, a garbage chute, a stupid teenage romance, idiotic chase scenes. And then of course the Avatar ripoffs of sleek skinny aliens and glowing things all over the place. This film is an embarrassment to the science fiction genre.

What a huge disappointment! Hey, Ridley, have you lost your mojo? No creativity here except for the artwork. Not Sci-fi but boring soap opera in space. I won't see the next one. Has befallen the same or worse fate as Star Wars. So many loose ends and incomprehensible aspects to the story line. I miss Gene Roddenberry a lot. Shame on you Ridley.

Started out great and then died
17 November 2011
The first few seasons were really good and entertaining. Then the series went straight down hill. Actually it's the directing that became terrible. I just finished watching season 6. At the end of the season I was gritting my teeth because of the poor direction. Kyra Sedgewick is a talented actor, but degenerates into a ditzy inane ridiculous character as the series progresses. I'm going to skip season 7 unless I hear it has returned to being good. Why ruin such a good thing? Got me. THe stories were good in season 6 and the rest of the acting crew were really maturing and acting more comfortably together. It was Sedgewick that was such a bummer. Really too bad.

Series goes only downhill
14 May 2010
Some of the episodes in this series are wonderfully creative. As the end of season three plays out, the writing and some of the acting is disintegrating badly. I never liked Shattner in Start Trek and almost didn't even start this series because he was in it. But I was pleasantly surprised by season one and two. He was perfectly cast as a bumbling fool - really fits his actual personality and the writers played on that brilliantly. However, at the end of season three, his character degenerates into a VERY unfunny totally distasteful jerk. This is supposed to be entertainment? As he lusts after women obnoxiously and goes about being a complete idiot, we're supposed to laugh? Give me a break. The man is a terrible actor and was only redeemed by some good writing and directing in the first two seasons. I found myself asking "Why am I watching this crap?". No more for me. Too bad, some of the other actors are very good.

Worse than bad
28 March 2010
It's been a long time since I walked out of a movie. This one was so bad I couldn't justify the lost time sitting there like a moron watching the very not funny morons on the screen. I went because John Cusack was in it and figured he can only sink so low. I was wrong. He can't just need the money. I guess he needed something to do, but still. The characters were all just plain stupid, one being totally obnoxious but not in a funny way. Just obnoxious. An insult to anyone with half a brain. The plot, of course, is preposterous, but I knew that before I went in. It is possible to be creative even with a ridiculous plot. There was absolutely NO creativity present in this film (the first half at least, I just couldn't tolerate any more grossness and stupidity that just wasn't funny). Save yourself a few bucks and DO NOT SEE THIS FILM!
