Best Rock band of all time....

Firstly,don't mention The Beatles in the same breath as Rush..The Beatles are/were a POP band-NEVER a Rock band...this documentary is simply superb especially for a life long fan like me-very first gig-and Rush gig ever-Feb 13th 1978..De Montfort Hall,Leicester,England-and 116 times since.i was 17..i can't fault it apart from the mistake in that The Fountainhead was the inspiration for 2112 when it was Anthem-no idea how that managed to sneak through....

Stargate Universe (2009–2011)

Dull Beyond Words......

Virtually destroyed the legacy of Stargate-mercifully,it only last 2 seasons...the premise of the Destiny-an Ancient ship-was great but squandered by the usual bad writing,characters nobody liked,non of the excitement,wit,charm that made SG-1 & Atlantis so good..NYPD Blue shaky camera work,the need to try to make it dark,gritty,human like BSG-and failing on all points.the stupid communication stones McGuffin that was ridiculous not to mention The Lucian Alliance popping up-considering how far the ship has meant to have travelled,it's a very small universe...not as bad as Caprica but very close....and to think they cancelled Atlantis for it....dreadful.

I remember seeing this at the cinema here in the UK in 1987.one of John Carpenter's worst films,acting is bad,story all over the place plus one of the scientists mentions that the seal on the container is over a million years old.nobody bats an eyelid.....I was/am a big John Carpenter fan but this really sucked.

Less Is More...........

Very often TV shows tend to go hell bent for leather with scant disregard for what has gone before.this episode is a perfect example of that old maxim "Less Is More".....a slow opening,some great production values,an almost total lack of dialogue from some main characters...all these add up to a great season opener that has gravitas,thought,depth and some great acting.....my fave band is Rush but I listen to Slayer as well,you need light/dark..you can't be pounded over the head all the time,you need to breathe and appreciate what the quiet really can bring out....you can't have constant battles/warfare without the little things that add greatly to an episode or a series....

Steve Austin's Broken Skull Challenge (2014– )

Here in the UK,we get lots of trashy American TV shows and upon seeing that Steve Austin was hosting,i assumed it would be a comedy as WWF/American wrestling over here is a joke/novelty......watching all those male/female contestants take on the Skull Buster is a joy.considering some of the egos that grace the BS ranch,its a wonder anything else can squeeze in....when someone wins without being a muscle/meat head and is humble,its a pleasure to watch,its also a pleasure to watch the others get the thumbs down-despite their arrogance.

i first heard Rammstein back in 2001 after a friend gave me the Mutter album to listen to.a German band singing in German,why would i want to even listen to it ?..thankfully i did.the language difference only improves the listening experience,if it had been sung in English,it would have lost most of it's power.3 years later they released Reise Reise-another outstanding hard rock album-and they have never looked back.recording the tour was a great idea and shows just how good live they are...they are possibly one of THE best live bands i've ever seen-and i'm the worlds biggest Rush fan.....recorded in 2004/5,the concert from Paris is simply stunning.musically exciting,loud,aggressive and heart warming.i was lucky enough to see them in the u.k.3 times on this tour-Reise Reise album-and have seen them every tour since...i'm not going to give away any spoilers,i will just say,put the disc on,turn up the volume....and ROCK.

in 1981 i remember seeing this either at the cinema (doubtful) or on a VHS tape.due to its nature these types of films-video nasties-proved very popular amongst me and my horror film loving friends.here in the uk some of these films were easier to get hold of than others.this was a film i only vaguely remember seeing and its notoriety was not known to me at the time.so its been almost 30 years since i last saw it and last night i sat down to watch it once more..film stock is not very good so the picture is not perfect,in fact in some places its pretty awful....which just about sums the film up..the box has a quote on the front which reads.."the most repulsive,offensive,degrading,gory,depraved and horrifying movie ever made"..HAH !! only if you are a five year old child.like the evil dead and driller killer,its just terrible.it strives for horror but instead it bores you rigid.bad acting,some OK make up effects and hardly any gruesome deaths just make it tiresome...why this was EVER banned really is beyond me...

once again a really left of field episode and the return of an old friend.i really wish lost would do what lots of other TV shows do,that is not show the guest star's name in the credits at the beginning.you know straight away who is going to pop up and leaving their name off till the end would be more of a surprise.desmond is one of the show's best characters and its great to see him back.coupled with the alternate time line inserts this episode really upped the ante'and only leaves the door open for more questions.the appearance of a couple of back story characters made the whole thing race along and gave us all food for thought.

one of the standout episodes of the ENTIRE series..a truly stunning look back on the life of richard and his origins.i can not praise it enough.nestor carbonell's acting raised this above just a simple story and formed it into what i believe,will be a pivotal point in the entire lost story..remember when "locke" met richard on the beach and said "good to see you out of those chains" ?...precisely what the man in black said to richard when finding him in the bowels of the black rock....i can not remember that last time i watched ANY TV show and it gripped me as much as this episode did.the story was excellent and i really think it is going to be viewed as one of THE best episodes that have ever been transmitted.

one of the very few films i have seen at the cinema where i have stood up and clapped (and cried) at the end.an epic in every sense,tom cruise proves he can act and this is just a remarkable,stunning film.not a single moment is wasted and it deserves a much wider audience than it had. the culture and the gentle nature of the people of this time are fully explored unlike some films which do not address how the Japanese used to live. brilliant cinema on a scale we very rarely see these days.unmissable! it was unfortunate in that when i went to see this that it was the last showing on the last day the film was being shown.if i had known it was going to be this good,i would have gone on the first day and on subsequent days.
