Lars and the Real Girl (2007)
Should we all be so smart - Therapists etc. be afraid - very afraid!!!
A young man (early 30's?) - extremely shy and introverted - resists the constant attempts attempts of his brother and sister-in-law to see him become more social and 'partnered up'.
He seemingly ignores a workmate expounding the virtues of a web site which provides 'blow-up dolls' made to spec. He is also seemingly oblivious to the attempts of one of the office girls wanting to form a friendship.
Large package arrives and he introduces his new 'girlfriend' to his family - treating his wheelchair bound (plastic dolls can't walk!) new girlfriend he meant on the i'net to the family, with the request that she stay with them for proprieties.
The entire township becomes involved and accepts and treats the 'blow-up doll' as a real person. The transformation of our main character - Lars - is a precious moment in the acting industry.
This movie I found will cater to those that see the deeper meaning of a young man finding his own way of coping with trying to establish a relationship - not only with a 'significant other' - but people in general. Those professionals that want to get into your head - watch out!!!! It will also cater to those that just want a really good laugh! Comedy or 'something meaningful' - make of it what your circumstance dictates............I found it really funny......&and very meaningful!!! Definitely worth watching - even for the sicko's!
The Last Hit Man (2008)
A Bloody Good Movie!
I am not going to be a pretend person and quote other actors/movies etc. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. In part, it was somewhat predictable, but the way it played out, made in my opinion, excellent viewing. Obvious from the start that dad and his daughter are involved in an unusual income earning lifestyle. Equally obvious that dad is trying to shelter daughter to an extent. Dad involved in something he wants to keep from daughter. Enter third main character. This one kept me guessing for quite a while - then when I finally decided to trust him - he let me down. Then it got really got interesting! Except for the tears I had to shed at the end. Like I said, bloody good movie! This one I am keeping!!!!
10,000 BC (2008)
A mish mash of history!
After waiting so long to see this, I was so moved that I had to join up and have my say. Don't know if what I say qualifies as a 'spoiler', - not intended - but will find out one way or the other. OK. 10,000BC. Yes, the beginning and the end had some mammoths - good effects by the way. Two short appearances by a sabre tooth. One scene I had to keep rewinding to see again and again. An injured person was being given water from a skin bottle with what could be nothing other than a pop-top sports bottle mouthpiece. Pre-historic animals, fancy jewelery, fancy carved steel knives, pyramids, fancy clothing using flimsy brightly coloured fabrics, wheels, mascara stained cheeks...........I could keep going. More like 10,000 years of evolution all rolled into one - but without making a lot of sense. And why the different languages - often hard to hear even the 'English'. Having said that, it is just a love story with a poor attempt at making it some sort of action/war/retaliation type story. Not good. Watchable - to see if it gets better at the end at least!
