Saving Grace (2007)
What a ride
I watched a few episodes in 2007.
My suspension of belief was suspended when a skinny five foot two woman was able to KO a six foot man with one punch, on two different occasions.
Fast forward to 2023.
Came across Saving Grace on Hulu.
Holly Hunter, Leon Rippy, the rest of the cast made me forget why I quit watching 16 years ago.
Tell a story about characters you care about is all it takes.
By the final episode, I believed in angels, that Grace could out drink, out fight any guy and in the end. Save the world.
Leon Rippy should have won an Emmy for all 3 seasons.
Raising Arizona, Broadcast News, and Saving Grace.
Well done, Ms Hunter.
Why Women Kill (2019)
! remember 1963
I was merrily playing along.
The silly improbable plots made enjoyable by good acting, pacing and likable characters.
Bedroom farce episode was a case of an ancient plot done well.
Luci Liu has the chops and sex appeal to make us believe a teenager could jump thru as many hoops as there were to land in bed with her.
All it takes is a story-in this case-three-about interesting people.
What sank the ship was using the 1963 World Series as a plot device.
The husband was exited to have tickets and decided to standup his mistress and take his wife to the game instead.
I remember that series.
I called in sick in order to watch all the weekday games.
All the games were played during the day, a they had always been and continued to be several tears after.
Tulsa King (2022)
Guiltiest Pleasure
Her I am, five episodes into the most preposterous suspension of believe wise, ridiculous, silly, plotline in probably the entire history-in of all of the above-series.
It required me to go along with the premise that there was no criminal element In Tulsa that couldn't be defeated by a motley bunch armed with baseball bats.
East coast bigotry squared about fly over country.
It must be that the lead, Sylvester Stallone, is still one of the most watchable actors ever.
In my shame I'm awaiting every new chapter, suspending belief, rooting for a career criminal and hoping this obsession is not another sign of dementia.
Bad Sisters (2022)
Blackest humor
He has and had it coming.
The acting of the cast is terrific.
Claes Bangs' is one step beyond that.
I'm nonviolent but I'd hold the coats of of the sisters while they rid the planet that arse.
I am disappointed yet relieved as he survives to do more dastardly deeds.
Deducted one star because of the adulterous sister.
That guy doesn't have it coming
Half of me hopes this is a mini series and the next two episodes end the story.
I have lived long enough to see the conclusion many series.
I am way past my sell by date and vowed to never fall in love with another serial again, but here I am
The other half wants fo see more of this.
Blossom (1990)
Binge worthy
Saw a few episodes several years back.
Found it again on Hulu.
Not every episode is a winner, some are silly.
Love the series.
Total is more than the sum of the parts.
Prey (2022)
Best of the Predator movies
The stars are better looking and better actors than Big Arnie and Guvner Ventura.
Comanches in real life were bad ass, and only defeated by small pox.
Dark Winds (2022)
WHAAAAT???
I've read and reread all the Hillerman books.
Looked forward to this series.
Sadly, I have wasted the time I watched until the introduction of the Jim Chee character.
Done.
I feel violated.
Billy the Kid (2022)
Lost me shortly after hello
It's hard to suspend belief when I can remember a time when the 'F' word was not common in everyday conversation, and using it in mixed company was verboten.
I'd be willing to endure this anachronism if the story were interesting.
It's not.
Don't Look Up (2021)
I get it I got it, move on already
Less would have been more, two stars more.
I guess that many A listers in the cast is one reason the movie was an hour too long.
Deleting or trimming the scenes of Lawrence, DiCaprio, Streep, et al, evidently took more courage than whomever made the final cut possessed.
Sigh.
Warrior Queen (1987)
another fine mess
It made me long for the unlicensed pharmaceuticals I haven't used in three decades.
Could be a great drinking game, boob drink, stab drink, scrawny chick defeats Roman soldier,...............
Sadly, I also eschew the grape.
Sigh.
La Brea (2021)
Nadir
The pits, literally.
Acting, writing, and directing are best described by the title of this revue.
Mars Attacks! (1996)
Gets better every time I watch it.
Been so long since the last time I'd watched this, I'd forgotten what the Martians Achilles heel was.
Now I that song's wormed it's way into my brain.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Good of kind, kind of good.
With few exceptions,( 'Gone With The Wind', 'Bridge on the River Kwai' two examples), read the book AFTER you see the movie or you will be disappointed.
The 'Woman In the Window' is now on my read soon list.
Lars and the Real Girl (2007)
dead solid perfect
One of the few films I've seen that rate my headline.
The Long Riders (1980)
I made room for this film on my fav's list
Somehow, I, a devote of Westerns, just got around to viewing this movie today.
It won't be the last time.
Blessings on youse, Netflix.
The Late Bloomer (2016)
Any guy can relate
Puberty has been in my rear view mirror for many semesters.
This movie reminds me of those times when I had one neuron floating in a vat of hormones.
Like all good movies, it tells a story about likeable people, don't be put off by the haters, enjoy.
The One (2021)
Binge worthy
It's like Stephen King and the Hallmark Channel had an evil, fascinating child.
Murder Among the Mormons (2021)
Not for those with short attention spans
The years 1985 thru 1987 were so intense and eventful for me, I had no memory of the events related in this documentary.
I binged the whole series.
There is a quote by the perp that is applicable as to what is truth,( that I will not reveal), that is unforgettable.
The Producers (1967)
The Emperor wears his new suit
If the movie half were as funny as it thinks it is, I'd have given it more stars.
The cartoon short, 'The Critic', was Mel Brooks being hilarious.
This was painful.
The Highwaymen (2019)
Well done
If there's anything in this film to lessen a ten rating, I missed it
Midway (2019)
Pleasant surprise
Having read to shreds two paper backs of Walter Lord's 'Incredible Victory" and having a hardbound 'Miracle at Midway' residing in my headboard book shelf, I was prepared to be under whelmed.
I hated the 1976 'Midway'.
This one isn't perfect, but dang good.
I'm Your Woman (2020)
Slow and steady winner.
Takes it's time.
May be a problem for those with attention deficit issues, their loss.
The Undoing (2020)
My, my, what a mess.
The Lifetime channel movie from hell.
1%ers gone wild.
WarGames (1983)
Better than I rememberer
Watched again on Netflix yesterday.
Been 35 years since the first viewing.
It has aged well.
Now I wish I'd waited till today to binge 'The Queen's Gambit'.
Winky Face
Knock Knock (2015)
Arrrrgh!
If there are words to describe how bad this movie was, is, they are not in my vocabulary.
