I Love You, Man (2009)
A film you could identify with! A Classic!
This film did not get enough publicity, It's a "must see" for all males! If it had some bigger names, it would have been a BIG hit at the box office. I think the people who played the characters were perfect for this story. What ever personality you have, you could identify with one of the characters. One being passive and the other being out-going. It has some very comical phrases and logic in it that are things that you could repeat as comical classic phrases. We all know someone who thinks or lives life as either one of these characters. I personally see allot of myself in both. You eventually think the plot will go one way and it goes the opposite. This is a film you don't want to miss or tell your friends about.
Stuck (2007)
A story that reflects the times we live in! Well Done!
I picked this movie because Stephen Rea was in it and he didn't let me down! I will also now put Mena Suvari on my top actors list, excellent job! I also think it was well written and directed, because all the characters came together in a way that we could identify with all of them, in ourselves or of someone we know. I understand it was based on a true story and I could see it happening as it was portrayed. People have learned to live in denial and assume that one morning they will wake up and all their problems will be gone. This movie portrayed that trait in people. I love movies like this that make people think and be honest with themselves and realize that a moments choice could effect our whole life. A perfect example of this is a missing little girls Mom waited a month to report her child missing? This is a movie you don't want to miss.
Get Smart (2008)
It's about time!
Definitely catches the essence of the TV show and they picked the perfect actor to play Maxwell Smart. If you grew up watching Bond movies, you loved the satire in "Get Smart". I personally thought they should have used much more of what was memorable from the TV show in the movie, such as catchy phrases and pranks. It seemed to me as if they were afraid to go to far or be to similar to the TV show. The plot seemed typical and there were no memorable moments. It seemed as if the writers were afraid to be funny silly, or they were not that familiar with the TV show. It is a movie you could watch with the kids though. If you're a fan of the TV show or never saw it, I would rent it for a few laughs.
The Take (2007)
Best Indie I have seen in years.
When I watch the Director/Producers Comments on a rental, it is because I think a film is worth it. This was worth it. I am a big Film buff, I have been around the Industry all my life. I rate this movie a 10 in every aspect. Totally filmed in Boil Heights (East L.A.), Filmed in what they call Gorilla Filming (not done in a studio, but on the Fly). Very realistic, it was as if you were looking out your widow watching your neighbor. It is so realistic in the reaction and emotion of the characters. I have never seen better acting by John Leguizamo and Rosie Perez. The rest of the cast is perfect for their roles. I don't praise movies like I praise this, one of the best I have seen in many years.
Charlie Wilson's War (2007)
A realistic look into "BUSH" politics and how this country has been run.
Fortunate for us, this story has a result that works out, but it does show the truth about how BUSH politics never cared about the results of what they did and the future of our countries involvement in foreign policy. If the Republican Congress at the time did care, 9/11 may never have happened. It is a sad story of political influence in our country, but it does show that some of our Politicians do care. The story is told with two very popular actors, which makes a difference in its believability. I am sure Charlie Wilson was able to influence how it makes him look like a HERO and the fact that it is a comedy doesn't make him look so bad. This movie is a must see!
The Savages (2007)
A time we all may have to live! Great acting! Great story!
We can all identify with the story that is told in this movie. It has, or can happen to us, or has happened to someone we know. Life can change in moment and it could affect us all our life. This movie shows what effect a Parent can have on their children's life. As a Parent, I can identify with this movie, because I wonder what will happen if my kids have to take care of me when I'm old and not able to take care of myself? We are living longer and longer and our kids may have to make decisions for us when we cant make them for ourselves. The characters are well played in this film and the story is logical of what we may have to do in this situation. It is a story that makes you think!
Le scaphandre et le papillon (2007)
A Masterpiece!
A must see! Also make sure you take time to watch all of the bonus features on the DVD. Maybe it's just me, at this period in my life that I identify with this movie. I have been thinking allot lately about how precious life is and how it can be taken away from us at any moment. What if you came back from the dead, one more time and could tell what that experience was like? What moments would be the ones that had meaning? Would you feel sorry for yourself? What would really be priceless in your life? how would people react to you? That is what this movie is about. It is told in an amazing way. It is told in the way the person who it was about would want to be told about.
