terrible waste of time, this film spoils itself
14 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big Sandler fan - loved Gilmore, loved Maddison, hated this. It was not only the worst Adam Sandler film I've seen, it was one of the worst films I've ever seen...full stop (or "period" if you like). I've never seen the original film and now I don't want to.

There were one or two whimsical moments but nowhere near the level of humour I have come to expect from Sandler films. Even the appearance of Rob Schneider with his Waterboy shout of "You Can Do It" could not make me laugh as my soul had already died by that point. If you don't like American Football then there's really nothing in this film for you. What was it? Action, Drama, Comedy? I've read other reviews which claims it is the latter but if so, where's the funny bits? OK, the guy with the hormone replacement got a few chuckles, Chris Rock made the same joke he's been making for years....over and over again.....the horny old hag was nothing new....the stupid big gentle guy..........

Extremely disappointing to say the least. Anger Management was poor, this was worse. Shampoo is better.

Bad Santa (2003)
9/10
A belly laugh of a movie
5 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Possible spoilers

This film made me laugh out loud all the way through. I love grumpy, sarcastic and cynical characters and BB Thornton's Santa was the epitome of this. While it falls into the "bad guy turns good" category, it is far from the cheesy American nonsense we are used to. You spend the whole film just wishing that the main character will turn the corner and be that good guy and when he finally does, it is not in the traditional sense, he still keeps that sarcastic pessimism to the very end. Highly entertaining.

There is killer 1-liners throughout, watch this film.

9/10

"I'm an eating, drinking smoking, sh#tting Santa" "How could someone drop me on my own head?" "You ain't going to sh#t right for a week!"

hilarious, not for the faint hearted
27 September 2004
belly laughs and occasional cringing from start to finish, people who don't find this film funny are kidding themselves. we've all seen the MTV series, this is more outrageous.

Anyone who would voluntarily:

1. eat their own urine mixed with snow 2. give themselves paper-cuts between their fingers and toes 3. fire rockets from body parts which shouldn't have rockets fired from them 4. shove toy cars where toy cars should not be shoved 5. attempt to make their mother swear on camera by going to the great length of placing a live alligator in her kitchen 6. attach muscle stimulators to tender glands

Deserve all the plaudits they receive.

It's not big, it's not clever but my god is it funny.....

The Hunted (2003)
unoriginal, predictable, forgettable 4/10
14 December 2003
Warning: Spoilers
The opening scene was good and I was thinking this may be the start of an excellent film. I was wrong. The storyline was weak with little explanation as to many aspects of the plot (the relationship between the two lead characters, the relationship between the killer and his woman, exactly why the killer was doing the things he did. WHY WHY WHY?)

SPOILER (as if you couldn't guess!). Tommy Lee Jones chased about Benicio Del Toro, eventually killed him on a cliff side and went back to his snowy cabin. Rubbish

Sandler in different role, excellent outcome
11 February 2003
Some of my favourite movies are Sandler films and having heard nothing about this film before I went to see it, I presumed that the story would be the same as all his other films (i.e. loserish guy overcomes obstacle and gets the girl with funny random stuff along the way) I couldn't have been more wrong!

I don't even know how to describe this film. An unconventional dark romantic comedy? For once I noticed elements of the direction (I ain't no movie buff) that were very interesting and different.

It started off very weird and I didn't really know what to make of it but as soon as he visits his sisters house you can see why he is the way he is and immediately connect to his character. You can feel his frustration and while you feel sorry for him throughout, some of his outbursts are hysterically funny.

The love interest is probably every bit as weird and fragile as him and the two of them together make for very interesting, emotive and yet funny scenes.

Great movie, highly recommended

The Patriot (2000)
awful
9 September 2002
It may well be 'just a movie' and not historically accurate, blah blah blah, but it is also a terrible, boring and predictable waste of what seemed like 12 hours. Every single line and scene was of no surprise to me as I guessed my way through what the dialogue would be and was right every time.

While not a historical documentary, the portrayal of the British (English!)armies was diabolically stereotyped, wrong and almost racist. This is coming from a proud Scot!

This movie is awful.

Billy Madison (1995)
nonsensical hilarity
30 July 2002
this is the funniest film I have ever seen. At no point in the film is there a solid storyline or structure. The musical interlude comes out of nowhere and is completely random. I laugh thinking about this film.

stop looking at me swan!
