The Ripper (2020)
Very interesting case, let down by poor editing and focus
The doc goes through the case the first couple of episodes and then focuses on the feminist and botched police work after. It would have been much better peppering these two topics through the narrative of the first few episodes, it would have spaced things out more and really given the case the tragic tone it deserves.
Also the botched police work needed way more screentime, time and again it looked like they were inept and I wanted more professional police talking heads analysing this, which is lacking throughout.
For example, the police seemed to be blabbing all their leads to the press throughout, which surely would have made it harder to investigate, at no point is this discussed.
This could have been far more insightful than it was.
Modern Family: A Moving Day (2019)
Bring back the Lily/Cam/Mitchell family!
Worst episode so far this season. Still some value and comedy from the Dunphy's, but the other families are really going downhill.
Pam is awful, conflict can bring comedy, but this additional just doesn't work and never did; lazy, freeloaders that always manage to get their own way is a comedy trope that needs to die in sitcoms. The Cam/Mitchell/Lily dynamic used to be one of the highlights of the show, now Mitch and Cam barely act like parents at all.
Jay and Gloria just seem to argue all the time, and the writers forgot how to write Manny seasons ago. Hoping things get better, but adding more kids really isn't the answer to the diminishing quality of the show.
