American Horror Story: Ave Hestia (2024)
Great Episode
The back stories are the best things about this season. That makes it rather lopsided. I don't care much about the present day characters, and I should. Uneven.
The actors are all fine, except for Kardashian who has no idea what she's doing. Debra Monk and Reed Birney are always very good.
The leads are not all that strong, which might be the problem.
Story line is good, even if it seems like it's Rosemarys Baby Redux. I like the filling in with backstory cause I don't think chronological would've worked.
And the endless break from part 1-2 doesn't help. And We're not getting AHS 13 til 2025
Instead of the usual autumn premiere.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Loads of black comedy fun!
There's no doubt this is a comedy, but the darkest, meanest kind of comedy. Much like
"War of the Roses" and "SOB", "I Care a Lot"
can win you over or send you packing in the first half hour. Rosamund Pike is perfect as the hard as nails 'guardian' who has zero empathy and only sees people as objects in her way to get what she wants. Throw in a female lover/accomplice, a senior citizen (gloriously played by Dianne Weist) who isn't what she seems and an international crime syndicate headed by the splendid Peter Dinklage, and you have a plot that twists and turns so much you're not sure who to root for. I loved it even as minutely flawed as it is.
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (2020)
Terrific series with plenty going on
With history as it's basis, the story adds the supernatural and Day of the Dead elements, just like the first Penny Dreadful. Like 'Fargo', it's a completely new story, not a continuation.
Knowing that, you should enjoy this atmospheric saga with splendid performances by everybody, especially Nathan Lane.
Go along for the ride.
S.O.B. (1981)
Also one of my 3 favorite films ever!
Perfect black comedy. Never boring and full of star turns. Richard Mulligan is brilliant and I want to be Robert Preston when I grow up!
