Chuck (2007–2012)
10/10
The Best TV Series Ever
23 March 2013
Chuck is the best TV series EVER and here is why. First of all it has very positive energy. In the times of making you feel bad & sad series and depressing series and plain out boring series, and ugly series, Chuck's creators were bold enough to go for series with very strong positive message, something that gives you a warm, good feeling every time you watch it. It's a great thing to see a series so positive, so energetic, so feel-good. Secondly Chuck has amazing actors - main and supportive, they are g-r-e-a-t!!! It's hard not to like Chuck and Sarah and the rest of the gang. Thirdly this series has amazingly written scripts and know how to reinvents itself like every season. Fourthly there are tons of very cool references in the series. And last but not least the guest stars are absolutely fantastic!

On pair with RE1
7 October 2012
I absolutely loved Resident Evil: Retribution. It's far better than 2 and 4 ...and better than 3-rd one.

Now, let me explain why:

1. The storyline cleverly ties things from all previous movies. 2.Milla looks superb - sexy, beautiful and having a blast. She looks much more prettier here than in RE4. 3. The return of my all time fav Milla's outfit - two sheets of papaper covering naked body ;-) 4.Action never looked better in Resident Evil (the car chase in Moscow is amazing). 5. Milla's fights - as good as in RE3. G-R-E-A-T. 6. The scene in the factory of clones. "I'm your mother now". Great moment 7.Cool homage to Aliens. 8. Inventive score. 9. Visual effects - more photorealistic than in Avangersand other plastic-fantastic 4-times-biiger-budget summer attractions. 10. Epic scope. Grand scale. 11. Paul Anderson's direction - wide shoots, some Mulcahy's style shoots. 12. Doube ending with a nice cliffhanger. 13. Suburban sequence. 14. "The return to suburban| sequence. 15. Some unexpected twists.

All to all - The great return to the for RE franchise.

Very Good!
9 May 2011
At the beginning I'd like to say I'm sick and tired of this silly anti-Boll mania and you should be too. So I want to review this film without the cliché of obligatory insults targeted at the (in)famous director. First of all I'd like to point out that some of so-called reviews (including the so-called very first web review reported on IMDb) are from the people who obviously haven't seen the movie at all!! The made up the reviews based only on the trailer. That's a crime of internet journalism. Shame on you. But, let's get to the film, shall we? Bloodrayne: The Third Reich is the third chapter of Uwe Boll's saga based on games about half-human, half-vampire. The first film was set during Middle Ages, the second in Old West times, this time we're in the dark days of The Second World War. We find Rayne (beautiful Natassia Malthe reprising her role from the previous film) somewhere on the Eastern Front fighting side by side with the rebels against Nazis. The film is an action horror with some hot scenes and good thrills. I found it very interesting. Firstly there is a certain pseudo-documentary feel to the film, which gives it a fresh breath. It's not yet another plastic-fantastic super colorful Hollywood blockbuster. The atmosphere is dark and depressing and it feels real. On this craft-fully designed background the director and writer paint the wolf pack of very interesting, bigger than life characters. There's Rayne – deadly dangerous and, yet very sexy. She's a true warrior but also a woman who hides under the iron shelter a human heart. There's the crazy Dr Mangler (played by Clint Howard in a top form) and Nazi Commandant (Michael Pare) who accidentally becomes day-walking vampire (thanks to Rayne's own blood). It's a treat to see those persons because they are very charismatic, strong, big. Whoever said anything bad about the acting in this movie hasn't seen it or doesn't understand what kind of a movie Bloodrayne: The Third Reich is. It's an escapist violent sexy fun movie, not a period costume drama with ambitions to get Academy Awards. C'mon, if don't like the performances here what can you tell about the performances in, for instance, Iron Man 2? I don't think that Mickey Rourke overacted his role in IM2 and in the same way I don't think Clint Howard overacted his role in BR3. These characters are supposed to be archetypes, caricatures, super-villains. So in my opinion…acting here is top notch. Especially Natassia Malthe is very believable as a super human/super vampire with her almost ballet like moves during the fights. I don't need to say she is very beautiful, because it's obvious, but also she does have big acting talent. Look at her more quiet scenes or even her voice-over in BR3. She is perfect here. If you look at her role on the paper – this is a very tough role to play without being unintentionally funny or "fake". Malthe plays her role extremely good, "real" and – although I do like Kristana Loken (from the first Blodrayne movie) - I have to say Natassia is the perfect Rayne. Last but not least I'd like to stress out that Natassia has some very cool sensual scenes in this movie and she decided to do some nudity (something totally rare in her career) for this movie and for this role. Thank You, Natassia. You're the best!!! Clint Howard is funny and every scene with him as the evil soulless doctor archetype is funny like hell. Michael Pare does a good job and still has this special charisma of his. So we have interesting settings, very good actors and -thirdly- good directing. As far as directing goes – it's a movie with a certain style, the further evolution of naturalistic Bloodrayne 2' style. It's nice to see Uwe Boll is making progress with his every new movie. The action scenes, the suspense, even erotic scenes are well crafted and directed. You can notice how Boll step by step becomes the master of using natural lights in a clever way, plays more and more with the depth of perception and tries unusual palette of colors. If you add dynamic montage and very powerful music, you have five reasons to give Bloodrayne: The Third Reich a chance.

So is this a perfect little movie? Of course not. There are some mistakes here and there, and the bigger budget could help. But it's is the best DVD premiere movie in the recent years and the best film in Bloodrayne saga so far.

All to all: Don't trust all those people who basically say "every Boll's film is a bad film…because…doh…it's film from Uwe Boll". Bloodrayne: The Third Reich is worth a try. It's better than most of "Vampire Slayer" flicks. Although a small budget film , it's far far better than for example Underworld 3, Perfect Creature, Daywalkers, Lost Boys 2 & 3.

Poor Cash-in.
6 February 2010
This shouldn't be called a film really. Universal Soldier: Regeneration is nothing more than a poor cash-in. It looks cheap, the lighting is TV-ish, camera movement substandard, the action scenes plain boring. The technical value of the US:R is low, much lower that the same aspects of Universal Soldier: The Return.

Universal Soldier: Regeneration is just yet another direct to DVD product made in Bulgaria. The bonus sad thing about it is cheating the audience by advertising it as Van Damme - Lundgren film. It is not. These guys have very limited screen time (Lundgren's role is a extended cameo really). Van Damme sleepwalks thru the movie, Lundgren has nothing to play with. To make it all worse the fighting scenes are badly choreographed and filmed and you can see Van Damme is using stunt double in some of the scenes.

All to all a bad pseudo-movie.

Mulcahy is back!
25 January 2010
I'm happy to report that Russell Mulcahy's GIVE'EM HELL MALONE is one of the best films he's ever done. It's super-stylish, has great visionary directing and it's full of ideas. It's Mulcahy the artist, not Mulcahy the gun for hire. Great casting (Thomas Jane, Ving Rhames, Elsa Pataky, French Stewart) are doing a terrific job..Very cool intelligent neo-noir screenplay pays a homage to a classic detective story. The cinematography is dynamic and energetic. I haven't got so much fun with Mulcahy's movie since the glorious times of the HIGHLANDER. It's so good to see Russell in a top form again after the string of shitty movies he did recently.

Battle Planet (2008)

Very good movie!
6 March 2009
BATTLE PLANET

Sci-Fi Channel makes very good TV series. „Battle Star Galactica" remains one of the finest drama on television. Earlier Sci-fi brought us such charming shows like „Sliders" and small screen version of "Tremors". With Sci-Fi Channel produced movies the story is completely different. Many of them shouldn't be called films at all. The pseudomovies starring yesterday stars like "Riddles of the Sphinx" and "Epoch" should be avoided like a plague. Luckily, there are some movies presented by Sci-Fi Channel which, although made with extremely low budget' are really worth watching, One of such rare diamonds is „Battle Planet" directed by Greg Aronowitz. It's a "little –big" movie. Despite a shoestring budget "BP" delivers a tale which can fascinate audience on many levels. The story is about the soldier Jordan Stride, who is sent on a classified mission on an isolated planet to find renegade. With a brilliant virtuosity, in medias res films portrays a very interesting take on a futuristic universe. There are three civilizations: Humans, Bevorians and Aquarians. The first two species formed alliance and fight against the third in the interstellar war. This rich epic picture serves as a background to a very personal story which more depicts innerspace than outerspace. The soldier is sent with a special equipment – an experimental suit which is able to provide complex terrain scans and even feed its user. The power suit has its own artificial intelligence and speaks to its "Commander" with a human voice…"It's Commander"… soon it turns out that the commandership of Jordan is in question, because it's the suit who decides when the solider has to sleep, where he has to go and what he can or cannot say (there's a great scene in the movie when Jack wants to say something about his mission to another character, but the suite mutes his voice!) The relationship between Jordan and The Suit is core of the storyline. This is a brilliant idea, but at the same time it's a difficult test for an actor, who most of time plays alone. Zack Ward stars as Jordan Stride and it's a magnificent performance. This is one of many reasons you should go see this movie. During his mission Jordan meets a mysterious person. It's the general Jun'hee - a humanoid Bevorian woman. And here go two other reasons to watch „Battle Planet". Firstly – the wonderful design and execution of makeup. How many times we have seen in various "Star Trek" carnations people with prosthetic makeup. How many times we have seen in other films people with face masks. After all these efforts it's seems it's impossible to come up with something fresh and new, yet Aronowitz & Co managed to bring something truly original. The prosthetics in "Battle Planet" look superbly inhuman, yet leaves freedom of facial expressions. It's like a small miracle. In a nick of time we buy Jun'hee as a real creature. It's not a human hidden under heavy makeup, it's another species. Last time I had such a feeling watching Wolfgang Petersen's "Enemy Mine". Of course this movie magic wouldn't happen without the great performance by Monica May. I have never seen Monica in another role, but she is simply wonderful as Jun'hee. On the side note – the makers of the movie plays a risky yet interesting game: Jun'hee is a reptile-face alien, she is a beast yet there is something very sexual sensual, very sexual abort Her. It's easy to give a beautiful woman plastic ears, calls her Elf (or Vulcan) and claims she is the most sexy alien ever appeared on the silver screen. It's one million times more difficult to show a creature-girl with lizardesque face and then make her a believable love interest for a human hero. Other designs and visual ideas are also very interesting - aliens, spaceships, landscapes (the silhouette of Saturn-like planets beyond the clouds etc) . And then there's The Suit itself – another "perfect ten". Kudos to Aronovitz and Co for making such a big show on such a small resources. The interesting actions sequences don't overshadow the message of the movie – the truth about the technology who changes it's role in human life: from the servant to a symbiotic and then, who knows, the ultimate master… I'm praising this film and go sky-high with my enthusiasm about it, because I really would like my fellow science fiction fans to see it. Of course "Battle Planet" has many little flaws (most of them because of the budget limitations). If someone wants to trash this rough diamond, it its easy. You can blame it for out-of-date cgi effects and some poorly executed scenes. You can blame it for its cheapness. But – if you are true fan of science fiction – trashing "Battle Planet" is like shooting your own foot. The point is: the creators of "Battle Planets", despite the low budget nature of their film, attempted to make an interesting intelligent hard sf movie, with interesting characters and designs. They tried to avoid all the clichés and stereotypes you can see in almost every summer blockbuster. And you know what? They won the battle. They won it for us – fans of science fiction stories with spaceships, alien species and mysterious new worlds; for us – the lovers of the escapism-stories with deep messages about the current and near future condition of humanity.

„Battle Planet" lacks the budget, but it has heart and mind, brilliant acting and great design& makeup effects. It's the movie you won't forget!

Great!
16 July 2008
Right from the start of the film we know that we are really back in the universe from the first ST. No one else can write ST-verse like Neumeier. It's a shiny but a rotten world, with many tongue-in-cheek moments. You'll have to see MARAUDER a few good times to catch it all (for instance look at the titles in FedNets). Again Neumeier goes back to the social satire and a commentary on the "here and now" situations (War in Iraq, Bushism and anti-Bushism). The huge surprise here is...this movie is much more positive and strong on belief in the human race than the original one. Humanity has a chance of not becoming a swarm of bugs after all.

The story goes two ways. The main story lines are that of Johnny Rico/Dix Hauser and the tale of the people lost on a distant planet, with Lola Beck/Sky Marshall Anoke being the leads. Both of these tales are interesting and surprising ones. They are the settings for the larger issues – especially religion and various takes on it. This is always a great subject for the characters to explore. First of all we find out that Johnny Rico somehow kept his sanity in the long years of war and developed a lot of heart. Last time we saw him, he was "a part of the grinder". Now he's a soldier with soul, a soldier who can't obey orders if they are not right or just. When I did the interview with Casper he said "Johnny is now a true warrior ." CVD skillfully shows that aspect in the movie. Van Dien is Johnny Rico and he owns the film. This performance alone makes the movie a must see. Dix Hauser (Boris Kodjoe) is by the book guy who learns that the mind is like a parachute and works well only if it's open. Good piece of acting by Kodjoe.

Now on to the actors of the second story. Jolene Blalock creates a very feminine, sexy and strong character of Lola Beck. Lola Beck rules! She's cool, she has commanding skills, she's every troopers wet dream. This role is yet another example of the fact that Blalock is a "acting-chameleon" and can play totally different roles. She is an actress with a very wide range of acting skill. When you see Jolene you can be so blinded by her beauty that you may not notice how talented an actress she is. Luckily in TROOPERS 3 Jolene has a chance to play some really dramatic scenes. She has great chemistry with her partners especially with Dr. Wiggs (solid Danny Keogh) Bull (Stelio Savante in a top form), and Holly (the lovely Marnette Patterson).

The little older, wiser generation is represent by two talented people: Amanda Donohoe and Stephen Hogan. I personally remember Donahoe for her role in "The Lair of the White Worm". It still is one of my fav movies. I'm sorry I couldn't get an interview with Miss Donahoe for our site. Maybe next time... Very talented English actor Stephen Hogan has a giant screen charisma and watching him on the screen is an absolute delight. He steals every scene he's in. All other actors make their characters memorable... from Cecile Breccia (Hi Cecile! You made Link Mannion both super sexy and tough, and the French accent was such a turn on ;-) to Joe Vaz as "Peace Terrorist" Elmo Goniff. The casting is tip top.

The thing that was brought up on a lot of discussions are the effects in the movie. The question was always the same: With the a lot lower budget how can you compete with still state of the art/ageless visuals from Tippett Studio? It's a mission impossible, isn't it? Well, the answer is yes and no. I have to say these effects are very good especially if you think they are in the movie with a budget of 1/8 of the typical big summer blockbuster. There are more than 400 visual and special effects in this movie, they are wonderfully diverse and not a repetition by any means of the "movie magic" from the previous films.

In STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER there is the ambitious amalgamation of wonderful miniature effects (The Scorpion Bug is amazing), CGIs and practical on-set effects. Sometimes it works remarkably, sometimes a bit less remarkably, but there are some amazing "instant classic" scenes (battle on Roku San, space sequences, Le Grande Finale, new Fed Nets etc…). Great work from the team lead by Robert Skotak. He did the impossible!

Speaking as big fan of the original film and someone who invest a lot of heart and time for this franchise (I'm the creator of STARSHIP TROOPERS 3.NET) I can honestly say that STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER is a worthy sequel to the Paul Verhoeven's masterpiece. It has everything you've been counting for and more. Of course it's not a 100 million dollars follow up that some of us have dreamed of, but it's great anyway. The budget limitations didn't break the magic of ST.

But the most important thing is: By this film Ed Neumeier proved that there is still a lot of life in the STARSHIP TROOPERS universe, that this world is still as fascinating as eleven years ago and still can be a great allegory to the current political situation. There is a lot more to explore in ST-verse. Let's hope for more TROOPERS stories (the 4th movie, the TV series) in the future! Of course with Ed, Casper, Jolene and the rest of the gang on board!
