15 Storeys High (2002)
Massively underrated comedy gold.
This series is massively underrated. A lot of people aren't even aware of it but they should be.
The basic premise is Sean's character Vince living in a high rise flat with his lodger Errol (a pre-Hollywood Benedict Wong) going about his business as are other characters in other flats we flick to occasionally.
The genius of this, as with Sean's comedy, is that it's off the wall and leaves a lot for the viewer to do in being appreciating the humour which means a lot of people will miss the jokes completely because they aren't by any means obvious and spoon-fed to the viewer.
The situations Vince and Errol experience are of course ludicrous but Sean and Benedict are excellent and they have a great supporting cast. This series is well worth a watch if you appreciate subtler comedy.
Forst (2024)
Wasn't worth it in the end
I actually got into this and had some hopes, yes it was a tick list of clichés - a flawed cop who plays by his own rules, colleagues hate him, chief is always angry, no one cares about evidence, killer has to kill with a flourish, cop beds every woman he meets (and why do these Eastern European products descend into softcore porn scenes?!), but that said it was fairly fast moving being 40ish min episodes so events move quickly and it's all about Forst locating the killer and clearing his name, exciting stuff!
Then I watched the last episode, I thought it would all be wrapped up and someone would be alive to set the record straight and show who the real killer was, instead we had the strong female prosecutor character who turned out to be so co-dependent that she would rather mask that her husband is a serial killer than tell the police it's him. Were we meant to believe someone in her role would do everything in her power to frame a man in order to keep her family together?
Then the other strong female lead reporter character (who was left to die in a flaming inferno by the serial killer) decides to kill an innocent woman and assist the serial killer in escaping. Out of nowhere that one. Apart from a passing reference in ep 1 to where she was getting her info from about the location of the corpses there was nothing to indicate she had any connection to the killer, so it just seemed lazy to put that out there, left me and the Mrs massively confused.
Assume the ending was an attempt to open a door for season 2 but honestly, I won't be watching.
