Captain Ron (1992)
Another early nineties hidden Gem.

This movie kind of crapped out at the box office, so it had that immediate drawback. But what it takes to get this movie is some spare time. It seems so simple, but it takes about 3 viewings to really start getting what is so funny (ala' Office Space or Night At the Roxbury). Kurt russell is pretty damn amazing (a word rarely used in cheaply made studio fodder like this) as the captain who is likable and very natural. One quick side note: The thing that drew me to this was that Kurt Russell had worn an eye patch in Escape From New York. I thought it was a parody at first, but this movie is worth watching again and again... like I did for an entire summer.

Surprisingly really really good

Being a gigantic fan of the original Exorcist and having read the review of this film and having seen the horrible Exorcist 2, I was very weary. So one night I rented this movie and was blown away. It's written and directed by William Peter Blatty, who wrote the original book and this book. He does an amazing thing with taking the lore of the original and having a murder mystery about the "Gemini" killer and joining them with a perfect balance. Acting is top notch and there are some very very creepy moments. I say that if you liked the original you will most likely like this, as long as you keep your mind open and don't expect a carbon copy of the original.
