Killing Eve (2018)
Great action show
I came back to this show after previously giving up after a couple of episodes. I'm so glad I did because it's a gem of a show that lives up to the hype. I say this based on the first season only, I'm intrigued to keep watching as I'm not sure how they will spin it out for so long. I, sure there is a way. The two lead actresses are so different from each other which I think is the secret to making it all work. I also love the costumes and the scenery, it clearly has a top dollar budget and no expense has been spared. I think a prequel would be interesting too, I wonder if one is in the works. Splendid.
Heat (2023)
Good show to binge
I totally missed this show when it came out, was it even advertised? Anyhow I just watched it in one sitting and it felt like a long movie that holds your attention. It wasn't at all what I thought it would be, it's less about the bush fire though one does arrive by the end. The drama focuses more on the secrets between the two families and the twist is, the father you think is the good guy turns out to have a secret life. I was really surprised by the ending, it's much darker than you'd expect and there's one very violent scene that takes you by surprise. It's not a happy ending and makes you think about the people you know. Do you really know them? That's the central theme I would say they makers were trying to achieve.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Funny funny
This is my go-to show for switching off and having a good laugh. It's silly and a bit obvious at times and the characters all merge into one after a while, yes they have different personalities but they all say outrageous things that sometimes could be interchangeable. But I don't think you should anaylise it too much. The mother Alexis is the stand out and it's no wonder her lines have become the main catch cry's of the show. It's a shame it has ended but I don't think we've seem the last of it I'm sure they are just waiting a couple of years to launch a movie franchise. Or at the least it will return one day.
Neighbours (1985)
Comfort tv
I love Neighbours and am so glad it's back on our screens. I see it as the ultimate comfort TV. It doesn't require a massive amount of concentration yet there is always something going on. A lot of people thought the Amazon revamp would be drastically different but to me is very similar but even better. The new characters are worthy additions and they have slotted in well. My favourites are Toadie, Therese, Carl, Susan, Cara, Remi, Jay Jay, Dex, Aaron, David and of course Paul who is the driving force of the show. Only criticism is that I'm missing the Friday episode. If it has to be four times a week I think it could be spaced out more.
Wonka (2023)
Fantastic
I recently watched the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie and loved it even though it's very dated with the special effects. I was worried to watch this in case it spoiled the enjoyment but I'm happy to say it didn't. I thought this was very well done and faithful to the spirit of the original. Timothy Chamalet is great in the lead role and I easily imagined him as a younger version of Gene Wilder. Full points to the movie makers I would recommend this to everyone. Only small quibble is that there isn't really a stand out song that is super catchy or memorable like in the original.
