Thanksgiving (2023)
Eli Roth thinks we're idiots...
I think the only movie by Eli Roth I ever semi enjoyed was Hostel. I mean seriously. First half tries to be some quirky grindhouse picture than second half seems to be serious. The acting is terrible. The kills, honestly, suck. I'm ashamed I spent $20 on Apple TV just to watch this movie. I should have known. There is no plausible explanation on how the killer was who he is unless he's some time traveling, be at two places at once or 30 seconds later he's there, killer. A complete absolute let down. Then again, I don't like any of Eli Roths movies so I guess I should have known. The only bigger let down was Killers of the Flower Moon. Terrible.
Unwelcome (2022)
Are you serious?
Never, ever, will I understand why some people rate the way they do. I just also watched What Josiah Saw, which was AMAZING and this is rated almost up there with that?! 2 points lower than Hereditary?! Are you serious? The comedy? Doesn't work at all. No horror. Nothing happens for over an hour. You can tell the entire movie is a set piece. I understand this shouldn't be a film you take seriously but it's not even entertaining. Every character is annoying. The movie is annoying. I wanted to shut it off but hoped it would redeem itself. It never did. I'd give it a half a star if I could. If this is what you want in your films I can't help you. Run far away from this film. I will never trust reviews ever again. Unbelievable!
Hereditary (2018)
I cannot believe this isn't overall rated a 9/10
There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said about this film. It is a travesty Toni Colleti wasn't nominated for her performance. This comes close to, not just a near perfect horror, but a near perfect film in general. I wish to be totally immersed and pulled out of my life when watching a movie. This did that and more. Any movie you can invest yourself in is a movie worth watching, IMO. Leaving you THINKING about it afterwards is a huge plus! This movie hit all the right notes for me and I believe Colleti's performance was outstanding and one of the best ever done in any movie I have seen. Low reviewers, I'm not sure what more you can ask for in a film.
What Josiah Saw (2021)
Wow!
I have to start by saying, I will never understand how some people rate films. Most of the time I ignore reviews because everyone has a different opinion. But how can some people rate things so differently. People expect 10s constantly, and there will never be a perfect film. That being said...
I don't remember the last time I've been that invested in a movie. I cannot fathom the low reviews. In this day and age so many movies come forward that are pure garbage. Not many keep me guessing and immersed throughout the entirety. I'm not a fan of spoilers, just watch. First time I have ever reviewed a movie, I just had to. The movie strayed away from the true plot a few times, which is why I gave it an 8, but even then, I was invested in the side stories that happened to the main characters. It goes in chapters and Eli and the gypsies was a little on the nose and the end of the chapter was kind of silly to the rest of the story. Like I said, I don't like to give anything away. If you go into this movie knowing very little I think you wil be pleasantly surprised. I enjoy movies that pull you in, letting you escape life and plunge into the realm of another, where you can forget about everything and submerge yourself into the story. This absolutely did this for me. What more can you ask from a film? Highly recommended!
