Paper Girls (2022)
The Plot Was Amazing
It is unfortunate that this got Xed over the trash that made it through. The Rings of Power was like watching someone you love get r**ed on repeat. The plot here was nice unlike the trash that got season after painful season online. This made me happy to pay for cable. The realistic little girls coming together facing meaningful issues is great. The characters were so well drawn out it was as if they came from a book. The cast was lovely and purposeful it was as if classic 80s things got meshed up together to make something far better. I was upset that this was canceled so much. Hollywood gets it right then destroys it because no one gives it a chance.
Street Fighter (1994)
I am forced to give it a ten out of ten with how many bad reviews I read
This is nothing like the anime but its sweet. Its a childhood classic. Its not made for adults so I don't get why people are using that metric to rate it. Its childlike entertainment for children. Its story is not that bad given its not meant to be a deeply thought out plot. It is not made to win awards. It goes off of small character bios from an old video game. Considering what they did with it. Colonel Guile's ridiculous flat top was cut down. The character were about getting an emotional rise out of a 10 year old and when I was 10 it sure did. Ming-Na Wen's speech was so powerful. It was great seeing her take her vengeance on Bison. The over the top cliché villainy was good and made for kids. Considering sponge bob square pants gets such a high rating and this gets so much attention when half the episodes were likely written on crack.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
Blown Away
This series amazed my by its all star cast of voice actors. It was a far cry from the original in that it was serious. It still managed to keep some of the campy elements of the original. The animation is outstanding. I think people did not give this a far shake enough to allow for the update on the classic to be restored. The writing level leaved something to be desired but it was always childlike and doesn't cross that G rated level of entertainment. It was thoughtful at the same time fun. I don't understand why it was so thoughtfully disliked and sponge bob square pants gets a view when it was teaching kids younger then seven to get high and be lazy and everything will be alright. I mean this explored poverty as a route to doing the wrong thing. The voice acting was an all too familiar joy. The series was well done. Is it a masterpiece that will last throughout the ages no. The amazing voice acting and animation could not compare to the poor script but it's Masters of the Universe for crying out loud it was always made to be a little childish.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (2004)
Omg
I love this game. A great game. The plot was good with multiple choices. I would have loved to see a mod-er fan update with a collaboration between the makers and fans to give this game even more love. I remember when playing this game in the haunted mansion and thinking am I playing a game or watching a movie. The op plot sold it. As a game it was very playable but so much good mod-er stuff that could have been used to make it even better. I am sure critics showing it love was well appreciated. The expensive plot could have been more explained with a little more fan service. What you could do in the game could have been a little more.
Dragon Ball Z (1996)
DBZ
What is there to say Goku was such an iconic Hero. The battle with Frieza was such a strong build. It got kind of G-rated and infantilized toward the cell saga though. The classic signs of Goku becoming the ultimate hero though was outstanding. Him looking to stop Frieza without killing him no matter how horrid Frieza was to him. The Saiyans were such an instrumental plot point. Despite all the fighting the heros from the Saiyan saga to the Frieza saga were so willing to spare lives. The plot could have used some development though. I mean the story with the movies is very loose canonically speaking but the drama is sold. Avenging and fighting for what is right was such a good plot point.
Cube (1997)
I Love This Movie
Though a bit too gory for my tastes I loved this movie the very real life true to form characters such as the personality of a cop looking to police and be physically demanding while trying to find someone to blame was great. The way the actors pull off the melodrama of having to deal with one another and keeping their live's point of view. The way a math student plays into this was a amazing with how a doctor might act. Worth maintains his depression throughout while racked with guilt. The doctor is not overplayed to the point to the fact of the instant gratification we all give doctors. The escape artist plays an awesome role in misdirection with one assuming that one needs to escape so that he might be useful against the traps. Kazan is perfectly played in the way that one with autism might be played. The social ticks. The distracted looks. The appearing to be unintelligent. The shed on the light of autism was amazing. How the socially abusive pressured crew picks on him with the doctor performing with her instincts. Seemingly worthless and devalued Kazan heartwarmingly holds the key to all of their survival. I can see things playing out like this if this happened in real life. I like the first one also because it doesn't get down into all the politics of who and why they are there. In the end Kazan making it out was its own reward. There is that mystery if Kazan could make it though freed but it speaks widely to how Autistic people need to be valued because there maybe something you just can't do that they can.
Quantum Leap (1989)
Heartwarming and Endearing
This classic was a heartwarming look at our history and I like how it focuses on the smallest of things rather than the largest of events. I mean it's not a stop Hitler in WW2 type of thing but focuses on common people living their everyday lives. The madness of today's dystopian world who would have thought that would be our future back than with such kindhearted simplicity as this. I like how they get into the changing of times. The interpersonal look at how life is grand. The look of how God and time work to set the wrong things right. To see one man disabled by his leap through time with holes in his mind about what has happened and the true to form of the struggle.
Poker Face (2023)
I found it to be nice
I found it to be nice but your miles may very based upon how you take things. I thought it was playful. The actress was smart and pretty. The plots were connected to her as the protagonist. She journeys on exploring much of the country as she is trying to get away from something. The ability to detect and determine lies was good. The premise of the show was good though many think though the classic method has become a cliché in that it's a tried plot with the detective angle. I found it heartwarming and endearing. The plot is not something you can sit back and relax with and she is really the only non-disposable character.
Russian Doll (2019)
This was wonderful
I love time loop movies and this just hit the mark for me given it is not perfect but the grittiness. The basicness of the plot and easily rememberable characters made it a joy to watch. The social community was not pc but the characters were so in depth. Given Allan could have used some plot development. The story is over all arching in its way. The characters don't go too far into drama as to turn off plot development. The ocd was a nice touch. The connectivity of the two was nice. Over all get the sushi ready and just relax and enjoy a good old time loop movie done right. The death's exploring her coming back was nice rather than the pain.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Though the highest rated...
Though it is the highest rated I say an over budgeted piece of garbage. Because it is fantasy and fantasy has come under such fire I am forced to give this 8 stars. No exploration of ideas and one dimensional characters that seemed to even be an archetype but just lazy lax writing. It was sad because it had the potential to be great but lazy writing killed it for me. I mean that is it. All star cast. Great effects but they missed the story telling in this easily forgettable plot. There was nothing even fun for the kids. There should be some element that says cgi is not the be all end all but I have low standards and this was bad.
Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (2005)
I found it to be a unbudgeted masterpiece
How they ran it like a game of d and d was great. The plot was solid though having Damodar return as the undead was a continuity error the film backs it up by spinning a whole new plot. The plot works stop the dragon god. Each character though archetyped was well played off of. The class characters and what d and d was all about was explored. I mean Joanne Rowling's Harry Potter was considered a masterpiece then this was pure genius as none of her characters were complex and she didn't even brand them with legends and went from taking from myth as if she read one page of Homers works and was like yea that works. Let's go with their were witches and war-- something or others o yea wizards. Got published and did f$&@ all. This took time and effort.
Dungeons & Dragons (2000)
I loved it
Though under budgeted it pulls off a fantasy flick very well. Fantasy is one of the most unrated genres out there and this film though childish is not made to be a masterpiece of cinematography. It's supposed to be over the top unthought of drama. Though not playing out like d and d the that was one of its strengths given the most popular d and d video on YouTube has mortar cycles and doesn't even play out like d and d. The one dimensional characters are for the kids. It's to not bog them down in social complexes. The art was on par for its budget. The characters were watchable. The plot though one dimensional and classism taking over the general idea of mages in d and d as a whole was one of the man criticisms. Though jaws in found to be likewise and it's considered a masterpiece by most. This is to take dragons to the big screen after dragon movie after dragon movie had failed. Compared to the pc nonsense though I would say this movie is a masterpiece compared to the nonsense we have now.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
It's nice to see them still coming out
This was a very high value film that was true to form. It's nice to see lotr before it got all drudged down in that pc nonsense with Amazons new series. The film despite its criticisms was true to form. I was very happy with it. It's nice to see the book had all that could be dragged out of it dragged out of it. It places lotrs in its proper place. It doesn't need to explore Morgoth which was one of the flaws of the first films. Given those who read the books could take a lot out of these films and kids could have a good time as parents and kids alike could enjoy this tale of generations. What a wonderful job.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
What to say?
Lotr is a classic. Seeing the work adapted then seeing that they added more is grand. Seeing my genre brought to life and popularized words can't describe. The trash that Hollywood puts out now days is insane with the pc craze now is insane. This was a great story given Morgoth was not explored due to copyright issues. It was still amazing that Hollywood had an appreciation for the arts enough to include it. Hopefully with Game of Thrones we will see more book adaptations. There is so many unspoken of great books that it would be nice to see get some love. I just hope the copyright nightmare of having to deal with limitation is silenced and authors get to see their works come to life on the silver screen.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
I had admittedly high expectations when I heard that they were going to explore the rings of power.
This show has no soul it became so pc that you would think it's not middle earth but America 2022. I had very high expectations as I rather liked both of Peter Jackson's works. Both the Hobbit that is and Lord of the Rings but when I saw this it was full of wooden acting and hollow emotions. The need for race swapping was not understood. This is like watching Django unchained with an all white cast it made no sense. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to discuss Morgoth and really get into Sauron but instead we got a forgettable characters and a bunch of misleading tropes leading us in one direction wasting our time. This doesn't leave much way for character development as one doesn't feel anything for the characters. I thought the Morgoth and Sauron connection could really be explored at this time and much of what happened in the first age really gotten into by the series. The clerks two joke about the lotrs being about people walking was replaced with a dull expression of misleading content and sitting. Nothing is going on and even the deception could have been about setting up the rings. So much lore from the books it's insane and hardly any of it went to use. In the end I feel like I paid for a fancy steak dinner and got a cheeseburger that had been dumped on the floor and some lecture about how someone of xyz pc cook made the cheese burger so I should be happy.
