Captain Fall (2023)

Don't miss the point
1 August 2023
This is something I haven't seen before. Not that I can think of, anyway. At first I thought it would be like Archer. But it's much darker. It's such a complete juxtaposition. Silly on one hand and on the other hand, uncomfortably dark. I could see people being offended by the way the subject matter is treated. But it's not all for superficial laughs. There is a very sinister undertone. I found myself laughing at the buffoon looking through the wrong end of the binoculars in an episode about child soldiers. Includes many tonal shifts and many levels. It's absurd and serious at the same time. People saying this is just normal comedy that they've seen before must be watching it while they're ironing. It's a show that says "Look how silly this guy is. He doesn't even realize that he's being used to murder multiple people (on screen) and kidnap people to be used as sex slaves. Haha isn't that funny?" Isn't it?

Kate is so unlikeable
27 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Throughout the movie I can't help but keep talking to the screen saying you should do this, you should do that. You can't survive in nothingness without creating a routine, exercising, meditating. There's a boyfriend and a girlfriend but they don't have sex, they don't play any games. And Kate is so unlikable it almost completely ruins the movie for me. And then the added presence of a third person should help them get by even easier. But Kate doesn't allow anything fun to happen. If I was with the right person I think I would be able to survive 50 days in The Immaculate Room. But not with someone as mentally unhealthy as Kate.

Maybe the aliens will save us
8 September 2022
Well there are aliens so it's got to get good at some point...right? Three episodes in and all I've seen is one demensional characters. Good guys and bad guys. Young British bullies. A cowardly father and husband. Adult white men who call an Arab man "Osama" in 2022. A recycled story of the sheriff working on last day before retirement, regretting that he never had that one big case. There's the Japanese lesbian whose mother just doesn't understand. This is nothing original. Maybe the aliens will save us. But I doubt it. This is just a drama using unoriginal Hollywood tropes, set around the world.

This is not a 9.7
31 July 2022
I'm doing a disservice by ratinh this episode years after having seen it. But I have the need to say that this episode did not earn a 9.7. This episode was rated so high because the viewers wanted to heap punishment upon the finale of Game of Thrones by contrasting this finale to that finale. It was a way of saying "This is how you do a season finale!" It was too twisty in a way that an M Night movie is. Other than that it was good.
