Miraculous - Le film (2023)
Animation ok, story ordinary. Not funny, not entertaining, not for kids.
The structure: messy. The story: lacking. The music: really really bad! And I love music! One critic here points out that we should see the original, the french version, because the songs are better? If you can't write a tune, use an excisting one, or aren't there enough of those perhaps? Apparantly the movie is based on a series on tv. Those who liked that, agree on not liking this film, and those who didn't prefer the film. So now you know what to expect. One problem for me is that its not a kids movie. Its a very average super heroes movie, its not playfull, there is absolutely no humor? Their idea of funny is the farting kind. There are some good ideas when they go to a fairground. But then they choose horror above amusement. There is a scene with a baby that is attacked by evil creatures, and as an adult you see it coming. If they wanted to adapt to their audience, they shouln't have ruined kids expectations by revealing the baby to be a little monster also. Oh yes, at the end of the film they hint at a sequel. But contrary to a lot of real super hero movies they do not follow up on this at the end of the credits, so its no use waiting. Its not much use watching the movie either. The animation people did their part, but the play writers failed miserably. And why the 'love story'?
The Eternal Daughter (2022)
Even the plot is a lie. Its the ghost of a movie!
No its not a ghost story. No its not 'brimming with mistery'. Nothing gothic... Its brimming with emptyness! Very boring nothingness. What it feels like to be death, and especially away. A void where a story should be. An empty hotel where nothing and nobody moves. We get to see one girl at reception. One girl in the restaurant. And one caretaker. I forgot the dog, but that didn't speak.
After the first night she complains about banging noises in the room above her. If this ruined your sleep you would go and look during the day at what ruined your nights rest, but no.
It is strange that the storyline tells lies. It says that she goes with her mother to the hotel. She doesn't take her mother. If anything the daughter behaves nothing less than insane when she brings a birthday cake to an empty table, singing happy birthday when its clear by then the mother died in the house(nothing spooky, simply of old age) before it became a hotel. If you read in a storyline that its about a man and his car, and the movie shows a man and his horse, how would you feel? The real storyline: a woman who wants to write a scenario for a film about her mother goes to their old family house, that is now a hotel, alone. She IMAGINES what it would be like if here mother was there with her. But they show it as if she is present, And thats it. Nothing happens. She gets angry when her (imagined) mother isn't hungry at dinner time. I often went to eat with my mother before she died, no reason to imagine such a thing, and it happened she wasn't hungry. So what? Thats normal at that age, and even before...? Conclusion, they lie about the movie because the truth would result in even less viewers! Whatever they tried to achieve, they failed at it. In the wiki plot they even think the hotel was always full of guests, but to me it's clear that she stayed until just before the start of the busy Christmas period, which makes sense if you're going there to write.. My advise, better read a book!
Luka (2023)
Reduce to three minutes, add music and you have an acceptable video clip A boring one.
Who called this SF? Somebody thought; its not comedy, not a thriller or about war, not a cop movie, no action in sight, and I don't understand it? Its an insult to the thousands of magnificent SF books waiting to be made into movies. What are they waiting for? Refuse to make a few good-for-nothing disasters such as this and you're good to go.
How can some incompetent director make (very weak) fun of soldiers at a time where they are dying in legions? Yes you are supposed to follow orders, thats because an attack is not the right time to argue the hierarchy, that exists in every company. And these orders aren't; shoot your colleague because he is approaching from the wrong side. Or grin like you're insane? She has soldiers in the family she said, but I don't think they'll invite her for the next gathering. Who let an anarchist make a film?
I thought, if the movie is no good, then mount Etna will provide. It shouldn't surprice me, but even one of the highlights of nature, an active vulcano, gets cancelled to a few gravel piles. And no, its not a musical either. That would have been a vast improvement since the actors like to jump around and behave silly. And why do people hate music so much that they prefer its absense? Because it looks like the void in their skull?
Even to catch up on the hours of sleep you missed this film is no good. Just when you drift off they start target practice. Nasty.
Anatomie d'une chute (2023)
For (future) lawyer and judges only.
The movie shows some moments from the lives of three people, and none of the good.
So if you like people arguing, that's half your movie. The other half takes place in a courtroom, with more arguing. Lucky you.
Sadly there are thousands of soap opera episodes with annoying arguments and fights from start to finish. Still not enough it seems?
What is worrying, is that outsiders in a similar case might have to decide whether a crime has been commited, and do so with the forced help of a kid, who is bombarded with opinions from all sides. That's called Justice.
The actors do their job very convincingly, contrary to in the movie "Luka" I endured a few days before, where actors and director both only seem to want to relive their fond memories of actor training, the part where they get to behave as monkeys. None of that here, serious business only!
Somebody called the music "subtle". There is one song (instrumental) that gets repeated often at loud volume(why not select a more deserving unknown tune?), everything but subtle, and the boy is learning to play the piano, but nothing adagio, rather Molto Allegro... I checked my watch just a few times, and to take a nap Luka is a far better choice. But there are hundreds of great books that are crying out, begging, to be turned into a movie. Although more expensive than this one. Probably.
