Living (2022)
Simple and brilliant.
This is such a simple story that if you knew it ahead, you probably wouldn't watch the movie at all, considering it a boring drama.
And then... wow! The magic happens.
The directing, Actings, music, cinematography, editing...this is kind of a production that turns any flat story to an engaging, effective movie.
The only down side of the movie for me was the very slow pace of the 1st half of the movie rather than the very fast pace of the second half.
Keep in mind that the film is not suited for boom bang actionor cheap comedy lover! Watch it with relevant viwers to avoid those frustrating yawns!
Enjoy.
1923 (2022)
The good, the bad & the Augh!
The good:
Acting; Specially Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Jerome Flynn, Aminah Nieves, Timothy Dalton.
Music; Brian Tyler composed a powerful theme music.
The Story; Depicting the brutality of the "Messengers of God" against indigenous people.
The bad:
Acting; Specially Julia Schlaepfer with that painful portrayal of young lady of British monarch, Brandon Sklenar, the philosophically depressed lion hunter!
The Story; starting from nowhere, jumping from one semi-parallel to another, boring unnecessary characters and dialogues and not-finishing in nowhere!
Directing; for this class of TV series , with it being connected to original Yellow Stone series, the directing, specially the action scenes is very amateur
The Augh!:
This is a Romance, drama, history, action, thriller, very very bad mashup! Comes from a brutal beating of a young Indian woman and dives into a fully romantic, cupid flying, semi-erotic, totally unnecessary scene with awful boring childish dialogues between young couples and continues to a gun fight between cowboys!. Totally unrelated to very smooth story telling you saw in "1883".
Seems like Taylor Sheridan has lost the essence of the two other series (Yellow Stone and 1883) on this one.
Cesar Millan: Better Human Better Dog (2021)
Perfect 👍🏼
I have a dog (A Siberian husky) and I love all dogs whether we know them or not and even stray dogs. I'm really fascinated by their intelligence and characteristics and I regularly read and watch dog related material from different sources, online and offline.
This show is really great whether you are a novice owner or not. It really show cases many different behavioral problems in dogs as well as dog owners and sometimes very easy ways to correct them. It even gives you many additional interesting information about dogs.
So if you already have a dog or you are planning to have one, do your self and your dog a big favor and watch this Perfect series.
Karen Pirie (2022)
Weak Drama!
The original book series has very good writing, realistic drama, good thrills and engaging mysteries.
On the opposite side the writing and character development for the tv series is very weak, with unnecessary boring dialogues. The tv writer has tried to modernize the story by making it a feministic show, so amateurishly so that the main story is put aside, the main character has childish behavior instead of a well crafted adult detective. Acting is also so disappointing and unbelievable, specially the main character;Karen. This all is said by someone who enjoy British detective drama very much.
Read the books, and by all means skip the show.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Bang, Boom, Hurray...
An 80's nostalgia with best of the best winning every impossible situation by any means, anywhere...belongs to the 80's. (Commando, Rambo...). I too wish I still dreamed that there is a place in the world which everything is always A ok, but in real world such a place doesn't exist.
Action of the movie is very good though and of course avoiding the Woke stamp many companies (willingly or not) put on their movies, other than that there's nothing new here.
By the way, what was with fully dyed hair of Maverick with the full gray 5 o'clock shadow!!!
The Blacklist (2013)
Descending continues.
The producers are eating into series fan base shamelessly. Too many bad episodes for a few final mediocre ones.
After 9 seasons, I literally watch this for James Spader (Raymond Redington) scenes.
Eight for Silver (2021)
Wrap it up, wrap it up!
Started great (after the strange irrelevant war scene), wasted too much time in the middle explaining almost nothing, and ended in a very clumsy heist to match the deadline.
It seemed to be a mini series failing to get the needed budget, brutally squished in a less than two hours film.
The Batman (2022)
Boring Wannabe
It's the truth that Chris Nolan trilogy put the bar so high that it seems impossible to pass, and this movie proves that right.
It disappointingly tries to be a follow up to what Chris Nolan created but lacks the utter most important part which is an original well polished and professionally told story. So they tried to make their own mediocre script in a gloomy and not super heroic space to resemble the Dark Knight series, and the result is a disappointing and boring 3 hours long action drama with the worst choice of an actor for the main role which you'll be more than happy it finally ended.
The only worth mentioning part of the whole movie is the extreme makeover of Colin Farrell as Penguin which is so pointless and irrelevant comparing to rest of the this movie.
Time (2021)
Mediocre drama.
It's a mix of previously done stories, focusing on guilt left with the criminals through out their lives. It's full of exaggeration about the whole penal system (behavior of guards and other staff towards prisoners and vice versa)
Actings are good (just good) which you totally expect from Sean Bean and Stephen Graham.
Worths a watch if you have nothing better.
Harper's Island (2009)
The story stands alone!
Just finished Harper's Island and it was entertaining.
So why the rating? Cause aside from the main story which is very engaging and is sadly torn between awful script, bad bad dialogues and horrible casting, you get to suffer from way under budget production, amateur cinematography and hideous soap opera directing.
Eternals (2021)
Reckless plan!
The avengers (and individual avenger stand alone movies) set the bar so high that reaching it even with perfect planning (Script, casting etc.) is very hard for Marvel studios (Disney).
This movie? Is far from that and actually begins from nowhere and ends up the same.
Seem to me that Disney is spending that hard earned fame and respect of the previous franchise recklessly cheap. Really hope to see a change of direction along the way.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Delivered what it was supposed to.
Watched this for a fun time and it delivers. Borrowing from recent experiences It is more than honest ridiculing our everyday cheap worries and bogus agendas, forgetting precious simple things around us.
And a fun fact: once you find Cate Blanchette you'll go WOW!
The Night House (2020)
Good Stephen King style horror, mediocre execution.
The movie has a very promising idea that doesn't get the chance to be fully narrated and developed due to time limits of a movie and of course out of the concept-waste of time scene, that doesn't add up to the whole story at all and has to rap up in a hurry at the end.
Worth a watch but don't get your hopes up ver much.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Flanagan fans! It's not what you expect at all!
Those who come to this searching Mike's brilliant works in the two Hunting series, are in for a huge disappointment.
Far from his magnificent story telling, long boring scripts adds to disappointing performance of the main (even recurring) actors.
There is no mystery in the whole story, just a twisted good and evil genre with weak horror flashes here and there. For the most part, waste of time.
The Devil's Candy (2015)
Like the idea a lot, execution... eh
Good story and actors, not bad directing either, except some out of concept scenes here and there. Very true to genre Horror/Thriller, which lacked the necessary time for expanding the story & character development , wish this has been made as a mini series.
The House of the Devil (2009)
Name it for what it is!
This movie should have been named "Reimagining 80's horror flicks in 2009" , then the overall rating would have suited the whole project!
As a serious horror movie, it doesn't worth the time or anticipation you put in it at all. Not just because you have to wait a long long portion of the movie for anything slightly frightening to happen, but even when the real "horror" begins, it's so childish and basic that suits the 60's at most!
You wanna experience the 80's horror genre, watch a real 80's horror movie, there're so many much more better films that this, whatever this badly scripted, badly cast, and much worse directed & edited try and error is!
The Suicide Squad (2021)
What the ****!!!!
Watching this movie was like watching a random episode of a tv series you've never followed! Started from absolutely nowhere with no character build up whatsoever, combined the usual super hero movie stuff with the eye of Sauron & Alien movies along the way and ended up absolutely nowhere!!!
Bad Script, bad cinematography, bad music...What a waist of time, don't bother at all.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
Finally the bottom!
The show was declining for some years now as Is always the case with over stretched series (say over over stretched in this case) and was way far away from what a great & original idea it was. So the ending suits the decline in every & any way as the rock bottom. Only this time. there's no rising back up!
Run (2020)
NOT a Horror movie!
This is a drama/mystery/thriller and NOT a horror movie in any way. (Maybe for couples in their late pregnancy days ;) )
For additional info. i.e. numerous plot holes read other reviews.
NOT A HORROR MOVIE!
The Evil Dead (1981)
Are you kidding yourselves?!
I don't get why some people like to praise whatever movie that seems to be the one of the 1st in its sub-genre
Yeah ok there wasn't cgi that era to use in the movie (instead of the deformed ancestors of Chucky! ) But you still can get fair shot of a broken bridge or stuff burning In fire or even people in car! Unless of course this is one of your 1st full feature films. Wait a minute!!!
This noisy (god its way too much noisy) very bad edited, bad acting (for the most part) movie doesn't deserve the hurrays in any way.
For comparison:
The exorcist: 1973
The omen: 1976
Alien: 1979
Succession (2018)
Such an experience that I wish it ends right here!
Season 1 & 2 (10/10)
Watched both seasons back to back and in my opinion, it's the best drama series in a decade if not more.
It has reached such a high climax that I truly don't think it's possible to continue at this rate and really hate to see it declining going forward.
This show and it's utter respect for the audience's intelligence has been a wonderful experience worth preserving.
Season 3 (8/10)
While the show is still very amusing, the third season doesn't add much in case of character development and the side stories doesn't add much to the main show. Even the episodes feel like isolated islands from time to time and characters appear and disappear and change behavior towards each other without rational explanation. The show tries to feel the shallow story of this season with some famous faces but even their respective characters are not introduced properly, it's just like a "hey everyone guess who did we bring to the show! Enjoy!"
I thought the quarantines made us much more creative, well it's definitely not the case for Succession writers.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Finally a working security camera!
I'm a fan of horror genre, specially when a movie employs suspense as a scaring factor. That's what this movie employs well in it's first half when you're still trying to guess what's going on.
But once you get the whole idea and the main back bone of the movie gets clear (which is much more sooner than it should have been) the plot holes begin to emerge, and most obvious the security cameras in the restaurant and the psychic hospital which for no reason no one cares about, the "ready to grab the knife" hand of the girl in the restaurant, the easy washable paint in one scene ...
The idea of the movie is not original of course, but it starts pretty decent, uses good CGI (few times when it employs it) and good music but disappoints through it's course.
Evil (2019)
Good story but not so scary
I just finished watching 1st season. while some parts of the whole narrative is less used in other shows and entertaining, in whole it lacks the continuity, sometimes due to bad editing (which happens more than usual) and in other parts it picks an element of horror like suspense and delivers but forgets about it through the whole episode and so. hopefully they fix this in 2nd season. All and all worths watching specially for the fans of this horror genre.
Animal Kingdom: Custody (2017)
Plot hole fixed
Thanks to the harley guy, none of this would have worked without him, lol.
Mortal Engines (2018)
Not even a good tv series!
Looks more like a 10 episode tv series squashed into 2 hours of over cut, mashed potato kind of a movie with no exact beginning and no moral end, with a huge pot of non defined characters. Big flop for producers for sure.
