Damsel (2024)
Really weak script but Ms. Brown is a bad ass!
Once again the trailer tells most of the story which really spoils the movie when you finally get a chance to watch it.
Very good casting of actors and I think Ms. Brown was a great potential to be an action star. In a movie she can be a bad ass with out being a tolly A-hole which Hollywood has doing to female actions stars the last few years and she is a very likeable actor.
Just wish had better script. Cutting peoples hands and then holding hands mixes their DNA/Blood line WTF??? Just use magic and it would have been more believable, D'UH! Also the new brides are thrown into a hole which is at least a hundred plus feet high not the best way to give a sacrifice to a dragon, just saying.
In the past few years Hollywood keeps putting sympathetic villains in movies it rarely makes a good movie. Plus the real villain in the movie is Ms. Brown character she tells the new bride family to run away and anyone at wedding party to run away but what about the workers in the castle and people living in the town? Since the dragon basically burns down the castle and town not sure how you burn down stone.... But as usually Hollywood could careless about the little people/ blue collar workers.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
What a piece of crap!
I couldn't take thirty minutes of the this dumpster fire of a movie and call it quits. How is this considered a comedy? I see they were trying to do a satire of the Hitler Young program but wow they really miss the mark by a lot. Some actors talking with a German accents others in a British accent was all over the place.
What a waste of Sam Rockwell talents, hopefully he got paid really well to be in this crap movie.
Only positive thing I can say about movie was the sets were really well down and visually they did a really good job.
I did notice a parallel in the Hitler Young program in this movie which really compares with what the far left is doing in schools and colleges now days, very scary times.
Monsieur Spade (2024)
Very Slow story
I only made it through three episodes so very slow story unfolding and flash backs were all over the place which didn't help with telling the story. This is another series which would have benefited with a shorter number of episodes or just make it a mini series. Mr. Owens does an excellent job as Sam Spade and sets are really well done. Once again the Hollywood writers make the teenager a complete entitle A-hole and very unlikeable character. Not sure why they wanted the story set in France instead of somewhere in the states. Don't know if this was based off book or what. I nodded off a few times in the first few episode so might have missed something. If you speak French you will love this series since they speak a lot of it.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Its a Rom Com not a Action Series
Trailer seem like a fun action series but it is not is a basic it is a Rom Com/drama series. There are very few actions scenes but when they finally show up they are really well done. Donald Glover and Maya Erksine have pretty good chemistry between them but bloody hell there is so much talking about basically nothing. There are very few funny parts which is a shame since Donald Glover is a funny dude. I only watched four episodes and I am done with the series since I am not really into Rom Com series. If you like them then you should really check this series out. On last thing they really should have name it something else because so many people will think its a reboot of the movie with the same name but it is nothing like the movie.
Sexy Beast: Won't Soon Forget This (2024)
Rewatching the Original Movie Would have Help A Lot
I watched this movie over 20 years ago and it is a good movie. Just not sure why making a prequel some 23 years later but I thought l would check it out. I was in for a shock after watching a couple of episode and pretty much clueless on who the characters were since I watch the movie so long ago. I wish I had rewatch the movie before starting the series probably would have had a better experience with it but after four episodes I am quitting the series.
The sets and the tone of the series is very well done, but just not interesting to me since the pace is so slow and not sure who is who. I think this would have been a better series if they quicken the pace and shorten the number of episodes.
True Detective: Night Country: Part 3 (2024)
Boring and I couldn't even finish the third episode
Horrible writing and almost no chemistry between actors. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis characters are suppose to dislike each other but doesn't feel like it. Unlike when John Hawkes and Jodie Foster are on screen together the chemistry between them is really good on disliking each other. True Detective seasons are usually slow burning but this season the story is all over the place and has way too much filler. Like the spoiled brat step daughter of Ms. Foster character and where Ms. Reis character goes to arrest someone and she is a midwife and lady giving birth in a kiddie pool how the BEEP does that help the story along? If the plot stuck to the main story and its two central characters it might have had a chance. Jodie Foster is really wasted in this series.
Plus one last thing, the supernatural element to the show, hello this is True Detective not the X-Files.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Average Movie But Still Entertaining
Its an ok movie but not as good as first one. The best part of the movie is the banter between Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson very funny. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II does a pretty good job as the villain. Randall Park role was predictable but still fun to watch. The plot doesn't really use the rest of the cast much which is a shame. The CGI was all over the place and had some really cool scenes and then other scenes were pretty crappy. I guess they ran out of money. Also it was refreshing to have the bad guy not be a straight white male. Will have to see how the DCU proceeds after this movie. Hopefully they will still cast Jason Momoa as Aquaman since he does an awesome job at it.
True Detective: Night Country: Part 1 (2024)
A Different Take On The Series
It seems the series is taking a supernatural/mystic tone but will have to see how story unfolds. But currently only watching it because of Jodie Foster and with only one episode in seems really weak so far. I do like how she is mentoring the younger police office and he is not a know it all A-hole and wants to learn from a senior police office. Kali Reis character is an A-hole and very unlikable and if she got eating by a polar bear won't really care. The other male officer seems to be a waste of space. It's also very strange how all the scientists are male in the research site and probably going with the current Hollywood theme males bad and women good. It seems the series is taking a supernatural/mystic tone but will have to see how story unfolds. I will give it one or two more episodes if doesn't get better will bail on the series.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Great World Building but Wasted on Mediocre Plot
Whole movie has a been there done that feel to it. Snyder should have stuck to the original theme of the The Seven Samurai/The Magnificent Seven about a small group of heroes fighting off a large group of bandits instead of taking on a whole bloody galactic empire. Where they have massive ships you can see in orbit and could blow up the village from space and fight over. It doesn't make sense.
It is really well made and the CGI is excellent. Snyder catches a lot of crap about his slow mo scenes but during one of the massive battle scene it was cool to see the whole battle being played out, but he does over do the slow mo in this movie.
The world building was good but the character building was really rushed. This story would have developed better if it was a eight part streaming series and you could have time to develop the characters.
I will watch the second movie but not really to excited about it.
Dune (2021)
Way Over Hyped Movie
I watched the original movie and already knew what was going to happen next so I wasn't very impressed. But I can say it was really where made and the special efforts/CGI were top notch. Also the casting was outstanding except for Timothée Chalamet I still don't understand the appeal of him. He is just too wimping and not very intimidating and can not see him as action star. Zendaya seems like a 100 times more of a badass than him. Maybe part two will change my mind but I seriously doubt it. I will pass on watching it in the theater unless I am really bored and will wait till it is on steaming platform to watch.
Yellow Rose (2019)
Eva Noblezada is an Awesome Singer
I was really surprised by this movie and very entertained by the characters and music. Eva Noblezada is one hell of a singer and she did a very good acting in this movie which made her character very relatable. I look forward to see her in other films. Dale Watson is excellent as a mentor to the young girl and helping her with her budding music career and not being a prev. It was refreshing to see a younger person taking the advice from an older person about a career path and not be a smart ass know it all teenager. Which currently that is the only way Hollywood writers know how to portray a teenager these days.
The movie also highlights its not just Hispanic people that are illegals in the states but people from other countries too. It also humanize ICE agents and doesn't portray them as mindless robots.
Its a really good feel good movie and you should check it out.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Should Have Been Release Under a Different Title
It's an ok movie but probably would have done a lot better if it wasn't associate within The Exorcist universe and released as a stand alone horror movie.
It has a different take on the demon possession with two the two people being possessed. Plus I like how they describe that exorcism are a part of many different religions not just the catholic church. The mother from the ordinal movie was a complete waste of time and she was a very unlikable character. The main character does a really good job and the two girls cast are very good and have some really creepy scenes.
If you have never seen The Exorcist you probably will be entertain but if you are a fan of the original Exorcist you will be disappointed.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023)
Another Hollywood Bait and Switch
I really loved the the movie and the music and such an awesome cast of future stars. I was excited when I first heard about the show and thought the animation was really cool looking but after I watched a few episodes figured out how what was going on and stop watching.
Also the music I hear in the first couple of episodes was ok nothing to write home about. Trying to think of some positive things but it was cool they got most of the cast to come back to reprise their roles and the animation was cool.
If you are a true fan of the movie please pass on this show and just watch the movie again. You will thank me.
The Last of Us (2023)
Over Hype
The first two episode were ready good and did a great job of setting up the world, but then started to go down hill. There were several flash back episodes which really didn't help with the story line or pacing of the show. There must have been some rejected writers from the Walking Dead because they said doing really dumb crap to try and make more conflict which make no sense. My major complaint with the show was how they portrayed Ellie as a modern day spoiled brat teenage not a person growing up in a post apocalyptic world. It was very unrealistic and made her a very unlikable character. Then the last episode was really rush and left me filling was that it? I will be passing on season two.
Beacon 23 (2023)
Cool concept for a show but story is all over the place.
The story doesn't flow very well and then there are several flash backs episodes which really messes with the pacing of the show. I see what they were trying to do but it just doesn't work.
Somehow I skipped over episode seven and it really didn't matter to the over all story. The only likeably characters are Aster (Lena Headey) and Solomon (Stephen Root). Halan (Stephan James) has the emotional range of a potato and Harmony (Natasha Mumba) is a royal A$$HOLE which let me know she is a really good actor to play that role.
This show in my opinion would have been a whole lot better if they trim down a few episodes and green lite a season two or made more episodes in the season to better explain the plot.
As of right now if it does get a season two will probably pass on it.
