500 MPH Storm (2013)
Asylum, "Who cares as long as we profit"
Another cheapo "D" movie from the Asylum (a guarantee of an affront to intelligence and taste). But, with Sarah Lieving, I'll watch. Michael Beach is also a good actor.
Asylum Motto: "The first draft is the last draft."
From: GQ
"The standard budget for one of the studio's mockbusters is $500,000, though that can balloon to a million if it has a partner-usually the Syfy network-splitting the cost. Each film earns The Asylum between $125,000 and $250,000 in profit, which doesn't sound like a lot by movie standards, but keep repeating the formula and the cash piles up. The trick, as with any good assembly line, is cost control. Unlike most Hollywood studios, The Asylum is self-contained, with its own editing bays, casting rooms, and sales offices; it even handles its own visual effects. The salaried staff numbers thirty, and the studio hires roughly thirty freelance crew members for each film it shoots."
Tian · Huo (2019)
It kept me awake
This is the first movie in some time that didn't put me to sleep from boredom. Somewhat hokey but fine special effects. The many escapes from certain disaster reminded me of the Saturday Matinee serials from the 50s. With enough willing suspension of disbelief, this is entertainment. (And, yes, I popped a bag of popcorn.)
Killer Crocodile (1989)
Equivalent to a mental enema.
Unremitting stupidity - every character is dumber than all the others. Together they don't equal one moron. Nothing about this pitiful movie is commendable.
Creature of Habit (2009)
Better than expected
When I read that it was a take off of old B movies, I expected a crude "comedy". Wrong. Well done. And the actor who portrayed the ex-soldier did very well. Where is a sequel?
Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell (2001)
A bunch of wusses
Wus #1, Michael the Archwimp. #2, a dull completely uninteresting Djinn. #3 the "heroine" who exhibits typical small child decision making. A poor sequel to the first two much more amusing engaging movies. The storyline is out of ideas. Poor. Disappointing.
