Coma (2024)
Almost half decent
After last weeks excruciately awful Love Rat I was hopeful that with jason watkins heading the cast ,that Coma would break the cycle of successive rubbish being served up by budget broadcasters Channel 5. Lack of finance has never stopped Ken Loach producing brilliant and relevant drama. However Coma could have been so much better in dealing with the problem of low life adolescent criminality. Unfortunately the makers of Coma chose to take the path of allowing actors such as jonas armstrong overact his part as local psycho gangster. Are we really living in the dystopian world portrayed in Coma. I don't believe so. Just remember mr Watkins to strike this one off your cv.
Het gouden uur (2022)
Unbelievable but brilliant
This Dutch terrorist attack drama is gripping and will have you on the edge of your seats. The violence is intense and some might say gratuitous , but perhaps is the most realistic aspect of this drama. The hero of the tale, an Afghan migrant who became a Dutch cop is well portrayed. The way the Dutch secity services and emergency services dealt with the various attacks was hopefully not reflective of these services in reality and though totally unbelievable didn't detract from a plot that was never dull and kept ones attention from the first minute of episode 1 right to the last minute of episode 6. I hear a second series is planned: bring it on!!
Wolf (2023)
Turgid trash
Watched the first episode as I have read most of the late Mo Hayder's crime novels. But unfortunately there was nothing novel about this rambling and confused interpretation of her work. Juliet Stevenson must have been desperate for a part in agreeing to perform in this abysmally scripted nonsensical garbage. Most of the recognisable cast looked embarrassed to be in it and their performances reflected that, none more so than the obviously evil duo posing as detectives in Stevenson's house who hammed it up as if they had swallowed the Brian Rix manual. This an absolute dog of a show- woof woof and not wolf wolf- not a scare to be had, no drama or tension or realism or much of anything-a bagful of bingo balls sloshing about before being put in order. Won'be watching episode 2- can't lose another hour of my life.
