Reign Over Me (2007)
Excellent acting.
I enjoyed this movie completely. Adam Sandler was excellent. Don Cheadle was superb. Liv Tyler was pretty good. Jada Pinkett Smith was also pretty good. Donald Sutherland was brilliant in his short lived cameo. The plot was great, the film work and cinematography I thought was terrific and really helped you grasp a feeling of both of the main character's isolation; which is the underlying theme of this movie. Its a sad movie but one of those ones that doesn't leave you heart broken, its more of a heart warmer. I really liked it. That is all I can really say, it was really good. It is worth it to spend the money if you like movies like this, I guess if I had to compare it to something...um...Heat...without the guns....and without the violence. Or maybe its more like Finding Neverland except in present day and about completely different events. This movie is its own movie, I'll probably see it again, but I won't tell any of my guy friends I cried during it or they'll probably make fun of me. But the ladies will be hearing about this fo sheezy.
C'era una volta il West (1968)
Greatest. Western. Ever.
This movie is awesome, simple awesome. It's long, but its not try, and its not weak on the plot. It is just....awesome! I loved the story, the acting, the music. If you love A Fistfull of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, and The Good The Bad and The Ugly, you will love this. I liked it better than those 3, but I won't argue with anyone if they liked any of those better, they are all good too. You can tell that Leone had a way larger budget for this movie, and it helps to bring the entire atmosphere to life. Charles Bronson's character is superb. Jason Robards character was funny/badass(My favorite character, and Henry Fonda...wow. Fonda was awesome! If you like movies that aren't all flash and dazzle actions like Face/Off or the Bad Boys series (This is no knock on those movies cause I like those too) then you will like this movie. Leone shows how he is one of the best directors in history with this movie. It is definitely worth picking up to own; I found it at a local store for 12 dollars. One of the best buys I ever made. See this movie!!
El laberinto del fauno (2006)
A great movie
I like movies with good plots, good cinematography, and a good musical score. This has all of them. Just be warned, it is subtitled, so if that isn't your thing then steer clear.
I have trouble gauging acting for foreign actors in a subtitled movie because I spend more than usual time trying to keep up with the reading so I can't analyze them as much. However, from what I saw the girl that played Ofelia was excellent. I want to see this movie again and it is on my DVD wish list for must owns. If you are a little skeptical about it, still give it a chance. Oh and also, it is not for children, there is a lot of violence, if you brought your kid they may cry. Do not bring your kid.
Because I Said So (2007)
I don't care if you said so or not; this movie is horrible!
I went to this movie thinking "Hey, what the heck, Diane Keaton and a couple hotties, plus my girlfriend wanted to see a romantic comedy" Well I'll tell you, it was a comedy, but for the wrong reasons. But, not even the biggest bleeding heart drama-head case would be able to scrape the tiniest ounce of romance out of this movie.
The premise of the movie is really promising; seriously I could see an actual good romantic comedy made about an overbearing mother who can't let go of her children...nothing wrong with that. Well there is something wrong with this movie and its definitely the poor acting performances and an even worse script.
Diane Keaton gives one of her weakest performances to date. Mandy Moore is cute yet vapid. Lauren Graham is...well like she was just going through the rhythms but not trying to much; I don't watch Gilmour Girls so maybe she's always like that? Piper Perabo...maybe she was good, but her character was little more than an afterthought and has maybe 5 lines the entire movie. Surprisingly there are some decent performances, yet they come from the secondary and tertiary male characters; with Gabriel Macht delivering the strongest one.
This movie is complete cheese, only see it if its free or you hate yourself.
Night at the Museum (2006)
Good family fun
Hey, this movie isn't as bad as many have rated it. If you liked movies like Jumanji, etc. this is a good one along those lines. Its by no means as good as Jumanji, but its still a good fun ride and would probably be loved by younger children. (I'm 22). So give it a shot, I thought it was worth the money I spent to see it in theaters and had no complaints...I got what I expected. You will too, as long as you don't go in expecting the next Pan's Labyrinth.
Ben Stiller provides the usual Stiller performance, slap sticky and cocky. Again, you expect this going in. Owen Wilson, doing his thing also. The one character I thought was pretty good was the head museum curator. Also Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs, and Dick Van Dyke provide some funny nostalgia to the movie. Rooney was a stand out of the three.
