Funny Games (2007)
Better than the original
I know I know. The title of this review might annoy loads of people but for me this version is so much easier to watch and enjoy.
Maybe it is because I am lazy and I don't like watching films with subtitles or maybe it's because the director learned from the first film and made this one a little bit better even if it was shot the same way.
I think the actors helped a lot too. Having Naomi Watts and Tim Roth is a pretty major upgrade and Michael Pit is also pretty scary as the creepy bad guy. The other guy less so but I think all the acting is really good in this film.
In terms of the horror and shock value too I think honestly that this might be the scariest film I have ever seen. I mean imagine if this actually happened because it's not that hard to think someone would do this.
Panic Room (2002)
Amazing and tense
One of the best films I have ever seen that is all set in one single place. Well, almost in one room!
I accidentally watched some other version of this film by mistake that was like a Bollywood film or something first. I guess it's a bad remake.
This one had been on my list to see for years so when I started my single location thriller series I knew this time I had to watch the proper one.
It doesn't disappoint. It's also maybe the only film I have ever seen where Jared Leto isn't awful. Or super super annoying.
Jodie Foster is really good in this movie and I love how the director makes the house a character in the film too. The way everything moves through the house up and down and through walls and stuff. Very very cool.
It might be David Fincher's best film. At least for me.
10x10 (2018)
Was hoping for more
Love a good single location thriller and had high hopes for this one. Highly recommended and trending on Netflix, so I jumped in.
It's not that it's not good, it's just not great. I thought it had some pretty good performances and it looked good. Nice cinematography and sound.
But I kind of lost interest as it went on because it felt so formulaic and there was nothing that I hadn't seen before, or that took me by surprise.
Maybe on another day, or if my expectations had been lower this would have a higher score, but for now it can live with a 6/10.
Probably best enjoyed with a beer in your hand.
