The Greatest Showman (2017)
love the destination, cant say the same about the journey
"The Greatest Showman" is a musical with great music, great cast, and leaves you feeling the true beauty of humanity. Unfortunately, it is also WAY too fast paced and has a couple unnecessary conflicts and dramas.
Lets start with the positives. The movie has an absolutely INSANE music production. EVERY SINGLE song serves a purpose, it just works so wonderfully well, from the singers even to the choreography (kinda funny if you imagine people doing it in real life though). Talking about the singers, lets. Talk. Cast. I don't know any other way to say this, the cast makes the movie. Without the cast it wont be "The Greatest Showman," they show, tell, deliver, and obivously sing the main message of the movie. It's beautiful.
Now lets talk the negatives. The movie has a little too many stories it wants to tell, which causes 2 main problems. Firstly, the stories - except the main one - aren't told very well, and often fel rushed and way too fast. Secondly, the characters in them are kind of picked up and then just dropped like that, but this isn't AS BIG as the first problem. The movie has a truly wonderful message that it tells, but how they got there? Could've definetly been better.
Chu lian na jian xiao shi (2019)
A cute lovey-dovey series with so many different stories, but mf can't act
As expected, it is a cute lovey-dovey series with a kajillion different love stories, not saying that as a bad thing. I'm always down for some heartwarming and fuzzy feelings in me, and this series is able to do just that. It's true that some scenes and events are rather cliche and predictable, but so what? As long as it makes me go shakey-lakey and crazy for them, it's still an enjoyable series. If a series is able to do exactly that, then 10 stars will go to them.
What if one of the most important aspects of a great series was to be just straight up bad? That is the biggest problem this series has. The 2nd most important character, the male lead, the person we see the most (other than the protagonist of course), sucks at acting. It may sound harsh, but the male lead (the senoir guy) absolutely sucks at conveying his feelings and emotion. When the female lead is able to a great job at emotion heavy scenes, the guy just stands there and does the bare minimum? This totally ruins the whole story, and the series ends up unable to tell the story to its full extent. Also his smiles, or fake smiles in this case is absolutely horrendous.
At the end of the day, watching this series was still a blast. The warm feeling in my heart is still gained, so I can't be too mad at it. Also, the guys rather bad acting can create some funny scenes. Overall, still a very enjoyable series to watch (very obvious flaw though).
Petualangan Sherina (2000)
Better Matilda? Personally I think yes
Sherina's Adventure just feels like a knock off and blatant copy of the classic movie "Matilda". Both of the movies shows the story of a brave and adventurous little girl in a new environment being threatened by some form of force. Suprisingly enough, even though I'm fully aware that this movie is practically Matilda but in a different setting, it was just better in most ways.
Sherina is just a much better representation of the word brave and more of the "boss girl" type. Whilst Matilda sometime feels like a cheeky brat and acts a bit dumb. Sherina is also shown to be more clever than Matilda, while Matilda is still definitely smart, just not as much as Sherina. The one thing that separates "Sherina's Adventure" with "Matilda" is the existence of a "love" relationship. Even though it's more of friendshiphood than love, Sherina having such a relationship in the movie just gives it the better edge.
Either way, "Sherina's Adventure" is an insanely fun movie, and of course it's a musical so the music is obviously also amazing. So what if its kind of a Matilda knock off? Atleast I'm having fun!
Matilda (1996)
heavily carried by nostalgia, still a fun one though
In a dark and messep up way, i kinda like seeing a little girl being put into dangerous and life threatening situations. Matilda is fun and always has succeeded in putting a smile on my face. Wether it is through the insanely stupid and odd storyline, how Matilda reacts to said plotpoints, and of course the nostalgia this movie brings.
Watching this as a kid was an absolutely wonderful experience. Viewing Matilda for the very first time as a kid was an amazing journey that young me enjoyed every second of. Matilda is great at exactly that, delivering smiles into people's faces. A kid wouldn't care as much about the extremely forced and just plain old dumb plot. And for that reason, rewatching or watching Matilda for the first time as an adult would bring up different opinions. Rewatching this as an older audience doesn't feel the same. Don't get me wrong this movie was still an absolute blast, but you start to feel the weakness and "wrongness" of the film.
Personally, I think that Matilda is a fun and exciting movie however you talk about it, but rewatching it doesn't give you the same "feeling" that you used to have when first watching it. However, whatever happens to the world, I'm sure that Matilda would still be able to bring just a little bit of joy to everyone.
The Mist (2007)
the ending heartbreaking, everything else? ehh
Had pretty high expectations for this one when it first watched it, but it was just dissapointing. Except for the ending. The ending of this movie is truly heartbreaking and one of the most horrifying and depressing movie endings of its kind. Never imagined what the writer was thinking creating such a painful and sombering ending for the characters. But, the ending alone cannot justify the whole movie just being another cliché and very predictable movie. Characters are what builds a movie, and this is just upsettingly lacking. The bonds the between the? Lacking. The conflict? Lacking. This movie is a great one, if judging only and only by its ending. Sadly, that is not the case. Simply put it is a dissapointing and wasn't executed that greatly movie.
Strongly suggest watching the movie's ending.
