Lilo & Stitch (2002)
My favourite movie
This movie is by far one of Disney's best and it deserves so much more hype that it was ever given. I swear i grew up on this movie and so i am extremely overprotective of it, urging anyone to watch it if they haven't already.
The plot was lovely and heart warming all about an outsider finding friendship in another outsider like her. I love this movie and it is definitely one for the entire family, it will warm the hearts of everyone
and come on, a movie must be good if i can have watched it 11+ times (and this is absolutely no joke). If you haven't watched it do yourself a favour and watch it, your life will never be the same though as you will find yourself yearning for a friendship of that of lilo and stitch.
Thirteen (2003)
Worth the watch 100%
I watched thirteen the day it came out on netflix due to the buzz that there was about it online. It had been mostly spoiled for me however the true depth of the movie didn't come across and neither did the heartbreaking and unfortunately in a lot of cases, very realistic story about a 13 year old girl struggling through her rocky life.
I became slightly outraged at how a movie that was based on real life and had such a strong message and one that is so important to listen to, became an "aesthetic" movie that people "aspired" to be like.
But aside from that- the actual movie was good- a difficult watch but that is what you expect from a story like this. The cinematography was amazing for something of 2003, the colour changing to reflect the mood of the scenes was just one example i can think of right now.
I definitely recommend watching this movie and i guarantee that if you have ever struggled with SH or other mental health issues, chances are you will cry at the ending. (I would also recommend this waiting until you are of stable mind and 14+ to watch it)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
The perfect movie (only a slight and possible spoil)
No only is the the most perfect coming of age movie, but it is just the perfect movie overall.
I have watched this movie 3 times now and will never tire of it (i can also say the same of the book).
Anyone who has ever struggled with any kind of mental illness or mental health issues will be touched by this movie, and i don't know if it was just me being oblivious but when i was reading the book, charlie's relationship with Aunt Helen just wasn't clear, however watching the movie it became frightening clear and i cannot remember the last 5 minutes of the movie the first time i watched it due to the fact i was sobbing too hard.
It is my comfort movie and one i turn to when nothing else is working- whether i need a cry or i just need some comfort this movie does the job.
Smile (2022)
good plot, not scary
I'm 14 years old and i absolutely love horror movies, the scarier the better. However when i went to watch this movie the hype that surrounded it was definitely not lived up to.
It was an incredible idea and was overall a very good plot yet while watching the movie my 'non professional' family and i came up wi to many possible outcomes for the ending that in our opinion were better then the ending itself.
I had heard lots about people leaving the cinema and having to "change their underwear" due to how scary the movie was, so maybe it was these exaggerated stories that were the cause of the let down or maybe it was my high expectations. But this movie didn't live up to the hype, it wasn't scary but was an okay watch and you it is an okay movie with a good idea.
The Ritual Killer (2023)
Don't watch this!
Please don't fall into the same trap my parents and i did by clicking on this movie. Yes, Morgan freeman is in it (and the poster) yet he is not the MAIN character and it is clear he was only hired in an attempt to make the rest of the acting seem less rubbish. Spoiler alert: it didn't work!
You would think that if they were going to include South African culture so prominently in the movie they would at least learn the proper pronunciations- yet they didn't. The pronunciation of 'Lesotho' had my south african parents giggling next to me- and no one wants that when it's supposed to be a thriller.
The acting is more than questionable, from the first chase scene i knew in the back of my mind what we were in for. The acting was shocking and totally unrealistic. Not that movies are nowadays but this was a different level. The first 20-30 minutes was slow and due to the complexity of the plot i figured it was needed and that it would soon pick up- yet it didn't.
The ending was hugely unsatisfactory and I cannot say that i would ever watch this again in my right mind.
The only reason for the three stars is that the plot had a lot of potential, if you were to describe it to someone they would definitely be interested and would want to watch the movie.
They did Morgan Freeman dirtyyy
P. S the language on the wall isn't zulu, swahili... they are two completely different languages!!!
