Aftersun (2022)
Maybe I Missed Something?
I watched his movie after seeing an article about in The Atlantic talking about how heartbreaking it was and then several comments on how viewers were left crying at the end of the movie. Maybe I just didn't understand it. I was left saying "WTF?" at the end of the movie because it wasn't anything. Only because the description says the movie is about a reckless father and daughter going to a resort together 20 years earlier and that's the last time they see each other, I would not have had any idea what was going on if it wasn't for the Amazon Prime description. I thought it was disappointing and made little sense. There's zero explanation about what happened between the resort trip and her being shown in flash forwards. They eluded to him having health problems. Did he die? Did he just disappear? I have no idea, which made it hard to feel anything at the end, other than just wondering what exactly the point of the movie was.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@%! (2023)
More of a commentary than a documentary
I have not read the book so I don't have much to compare it to, but the film felt more of a speaker making a motivational speech than a documentary. The entire documentary was the author talking about his personal experiences, which didn't resonate with me in any way. I just didn't "give a f*#!" about his own stories so it seemed a little pretentious to me that he was making us listen to all these very basic stories from his past. I did like the in between of talking about entitlement and taking responsibility, but it would have been nice to also hear from professionals to hear their take on it.
Hello Tomorrow! (2023)
Interesting So Far
The low rating here are ridiculous. Some of the 1 and 2 stars seem to oddly be upset that the show is diverse and not accurate to the actual 1950's. This show is a fantasy. It's funny how in Game of Thrones and House of Dragons, people were upset because they made up all the magic and dragons but kept the sexism. Here they get rid of the racism and sexism and people are mad because it's not accurate to the perceived time period. It's silly.
Anyways, I've only seen 3 episodes and I think it's interesting and very original. I can't figure out where the show is going and it keeps me wanting to keep watching. It takes place in a fantasy world that doesn't exist. It's almost as if you went back to the 50's and had someone write what they think the future will look like. I love the originality of the show and looking forward to the rest of the episodes.
