The Song of Sway Lake (2018)
Nostalgic and Bittersweet
The Song of Sway Lake by Ari Gold is an emotionally charged and visually stunning movie. The story was captivating, and the setting was haunting. I felt both nostalgia and sadness as I watched protagonist Ollie embark on a journey with his Russian friend Nikoli to find a prized family possession at his family's abandoned lake property. The music by Ethan Gold is also fantastic - it really helped to set the mood and bring the story to life along with the scenic shots. I highly recommended if you're looking for an emotional film that will stay with you long after you've watched it!
Ari Gold's Adventures of Power was the only other film of his that I had seen, and this film shows a skillful range in Gold's writing and directing.
Adventures of Power (2008)
Adding to list of favorite cult-dramedies!
I really enjoyed "Adventures of Power" by Ari Gold. It's a well-made film with a unique visual style! The character development is great, especially the protagonist Power, played by Gold. It's heartwarming, funny and has an inspiring storyline. The story follows Powers, a small-town air drummer who dreams of becoming the best, despite his disapproving father who is the midst of a strike with his coal mining union. Along the way, he meets an unlikely teacher and learns to embrace his passion. His determination to succeed in the face of adversity was inspiring! By the end of the movie, he proves that anything is possible if you put your heart and soul into it. If you're looking for a unique feel-good movie that will have you cheering in the end, this is the one for you!
