House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
What can I say about it? Nice try, but no cigar?
I just saw the film tonight, and I really don't know what to say about it. For one thing, its better then some horror movies made recently, such as Joyride, Darkness Falls, or Jeepers Creepers, but it's still not the quality of movie I was hoping for. I wanted to be scared, and I wasn't. It wasn't an overthrow of gore for my likings, but it just wasn't scary. I thought the first 5-10 or so minutes in the movie were excellent, and it really got be motivated. It started with so much potential, so much so, that I was thinking it could possibly turn out to be one of my favorite horror movies. But it just got boring, and pathetic. After the first 40 minutes, I wish I had a remote control... it dragged. Though, I don't think the movie was too long, it was just too ... artsy, and that sucked the life out of the horror. Maybe if it wasn't edited so much, it could have brought life back into it. I don't know what else to say about it... I'm hoping for a sequel, actually. Maybe it will go straight to video with a NC-17 and then we can actually see Rob Zombie at his greatest. I'm still out of touch with it, and I might have to rent the DVD before I can get an accurate rating. But for now, I'll rate it 5/10. It's worth a watch, but not a scare.
The Boost (1988)
Good movie. It's under-rated.
I think this movie is a great drama, and anti-drug film. It gives a dark feeling, and the true aspects of cocaine, and other drugs. The acting from James Woods, in my opinion, was not over-acted at all. He gave the watcher a feeling like they just snorted a few lines, and where experiencing the same things as himself. Sure, its not the best movie, and there are many better anti-drug movies out there. But, for what its worth, the movie brings you to hell and it leaves you there.
If you did like this movie, or are looking for other good anti-drug movies, my two favorites are Requiem for a Dream, and Trainspotting.
