Nefarious (2023)
Great movie!
This movie was incredible.
Is it 10/10 no, but it's incredible.
I probably would've cast a different actor for the psychiatrist, as I thought his performance was lacking, however Sean picked up all the pieces that were left on the ground. Every single one.
Incredible acting.
Whenever he was Edward I felt his pain, my gosh did I feel his pain. The switch between Edward and Nefarious was beautifully filmed and acted.
The choice to have barely any soundtrack was a masterful choice and in general sound was used as a powerful actor throughout the movie.
Even though I'm a Christian, I dislike a lot of Christian films, they're too cheesy or (let's be honest) bad. I am a big fan of The Screwtape Letters and that way of showing "the enemy's playbook" if you will, so this movie was right up my alley.
I recommend it. Don't watch it with your kids though. I'd stick to the PG 15 rating, a teen would benefit from watching it, however a kid wouldn't get it and just find it boring or scary in my opinion.
Freaky Friday (2018)
Calm down, it's just a movie
People are being very weird in the reviews. It's a cute movie, the songs are from the musical you weirdos!
I think the signing is cute and I enjoyed the movie. Is it a masterpiece? No. Is it cute? Sure!
I think Cozy is cute as a main character and does a good job. I think the acting is as you'd expect from a Disney movie. The actors look the age they're playing, which is a nice change of pace.
Overall y'all should just stop being so jaded and enjoy a cute little movie from Disney.
It's as good as Radio Rebel. I think that's actually a good comparison. This at the same level of acting and story as Radio Rebel. I don't see anyone arguing that's a masterpiece either, but it is fun!
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Brainless boring...
It's not good. It's not the worst adaption but it's not good.
But let's start on a positive note.
Casting - overall pretty good. Luke Evan as Gaston is dramatic and great, Dan Steven is great as Beast (plus he's hawt so I'm biased there), I don't mind Evan McGregor as Lumiere is strange (not nailing the accent) but I'll give it a pass, Emma Thompson is always giving it her all.
Songs - I really liked the adding of Evermore, I think Gaston is a great remastering and I didn't mind Be Our Guest at all (though Emma Watson was awkward).
Now for the negatives.
Casting - Emma Watson as Belle is a huge flop IMO. She has about as much personality and presence as Bella Swan in Twilight, which is 0.
Everyone else is very good at projecting when they sing, and she just "sings" with autotune to carry her. I also didn't like the casting for Madame Garderobe, she was "too much" whereas Lumiere was too little at times. I liked the actor they choose for Belles father (I forget his name), however I don't like what they did with the character. In the original he was the inventor, he was a bit looney. It made sense the town bought into him being crazy upon his return from the castle. Here he's just a sad widow who makes music boxes. We have no reason really for the town to suddenly turn on him. Didn't like it.
Songs - I think every song Emma sang was lacking, big time. She clearly doesn't have musical training, and I don't understand the casting choice. There are so many talented singers who could've played Belle, yet they HAD to go with Watson. The fact that the other actors are musically trained makes it really obvious that she isn't.
I also didn't like How Does A Moment Last Forever. Thought it was pointless and kinda bland. Could've been written out completely and wouldn't have missed it.
Story - nothing new. What made the live action of Cinderella good, was the adding of some new creative elements. This is a shot for shot sorta thing, and the new things they added, added nothing to the plot. Not even slightly.
Design - you can tell EVERYTHING is green screen, which kinda pulls you out of the story. I don't understand why they decided Ms Potts face is on the side of the kettle, and I didn't like it.
The dress for Belle is also incredibly underwhelming. The cuts look like uncooked pasta, and it's anything but iconic like it's predecessor. Again, to use the new Cinderella as a comparison, they made Cinderellas new dress something onto itself. They kept a few elements of the original, but made it an iconic piece of its own. Nothing about Belles dress is iconic, nothing. It's downright boring and forgettable. No one dreams of wearing it. Bad choice.
Furthermore I think the design choice for Beast was.. off. I can't even quite put my finger on why it was off, but it was just off.
All in all this was clearly a cash grab. Could've been something great, quite frankly it wasn't.
Lego Masters Australia (2019)
Hamish is brilliant
I love this show. It's super fun, it's not melodramatic or a bummer. Hamish (the host) is incredible at his job, and such a delight to watch. Brickman is humble yet constructive in his criticism as an expert.
I've watched it with my family and everyone loves it to pieces! I can't believe there's anyone out there who doesn't get warm and fuzzy feelings watching these seasons. I've watched season 1-2 and 4. And there all great and totally worth the binge!
I've seen this show from other countries, and I gotta say, Australia does it best.
Go watch it, it'll make you wanna build something creative!
