Doctor Who (2023)
The Doctor is BACK
I have not enjoyed Who for quite a while, I felt it went down an odd route with Doctor 13 and after many attempts I just could not get through it. However, after watching the first 2 episodes of this season I am delighted! What a return, it's almost nostalgic. Ncuti's acting is sublime, he can say a thousand words in a single expression and oozes the Doctor - I felt my favourite character was back. Millie plays Ruby perfect, she is a classic companion with what appears to be a great story arc underway. As for villains, to early to say but Maestro - wow, again sublime acting - oozed evil! Well done.
Mother/Android (2021)
Unrealistic depression fest
The film is badly written... boyfriend dumps his girlfriend off from his motorbike in the middle of the woods where androids are chasing them "i'll distract them" and then motors off leaving her nowhere, which was not at all in character to the rest of the movie. 15 minutes of a baby crying killed my ears, 25 minute ending which is just a depression fest and literally adds nothing to the story. It is okay though folks, random koreans come over on a shipping boat to pick up babies but are not interested in helping civilisation. Utter utter rubbish. Amazing what gets budget to be made these days, this genuinely is the definition of NOT being talented. Chloe as always smashed it. Avoid this movie.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
A triumphant return to The Matrix!
Ignore all the bashing of this movie, it is fantastic and I cannot believe all the poor ratings being given. Do you want more more super hero movies or something original? This is a return to originality and pays a lovely homage to the trilogy. Go in open minded and just enjoye the journey it takes you on, it is beautiful, sad and funny with some awesome nostalgia to boot. Feels like we are now lined up for an action filled sequel, I for one am psyched! Thanks Lana.
Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)
Ouch
Some nice action but stupid story, poorly delivered and just a copycat of successful movies. I get trying to follow the footsteps of success but this just came off as cheap. Still, if you wanna see women be tougher than men and beat them all up this is the film for you.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Stunning return for British crime capers
You can't take it from him, Guy delivers a gut wrenching yet fun and often laugh out loud British crime flick. The script was an absolute delight with some of the best dialogue I have heard in a very long time, delivered to perfection by all the main cast. It's a delight having a director and writer like Guy to keep the movie industry fresh, we need more original content like this being rewarded for originality.
The cast, well Hugh Grant was fantastic, you quickly realise Grants been underused in films, he has range and this shines through. Colin Farrell too was an absolute standout when on screen, he stole the scenes and had me in stitches. The cast in general though were all brilliant, many many standout scenes.
You have to watch this movie, supporting movies like this is important, original content is hard to come by and we need more of it. And trust me, you can't not enjoy this!
Kevin Hart: Don't F**k This Up (2019)
Does not shine well, and I'm a fan
I was always team Kevin, he was unjustly picked on over a few harmless tweets. This documentary however (if you can call it that) seems to be a letter of love to himself. He does not shine well, seems to be trying to justify his success and oddly seems to try to post himself up as the Eddie Murphy of his time. Sorry Kevin, Eddie was one in a million, they come around every hundred years or so. Keep up your films and stand up though, still a fan of your work. Keep all this other stuff behind closed doors, you have nothing to prove.
The King (2019)
Cinematic gold on the small screen
Wow, seriously just wow. Top grade storytelling, cinematography and acting brings to life one of England's historic events. Although filmed in beautiful locations (including Lacock) they still managed to bring out the ugliness of that period. I could not stop watching from the moment it started. It's so refreshing to get film making like this, oh how I've missed you.
The lead, at first I was unsure of, a young lad trying to pull off being a king, oh how I was wrong. He knocked it right out the park along with his heavyweight supports.
Congratulations to the whole production team and big thanks to the director for helping me put faith back into the film making industry. I didn't spot one out of place politically correct message, it was told as it should be told and allowed me to fully escape into the that world. Absolutely awesome.
Escape at Dannemora (2018)
Acting and Directing Masterclass
This was a hidden gem, only found out about it due to Ben Stiller being interviewed and seeing a clip on YouTube. In the U.K. nobody has heard of it, what a shame as this is one of the best pieces of TV I've seen in many many years. Well done to Ben Stiller and the 3 main actors who blew it away - this is why they are worth the big money, and they deserved every penny for this performance. Del Toro especially had me on the edge of my seat.
Stardust (2007)
A feel good movie which is damn good fun
it is a film of fantasy for adults and children, it makes you feel good and is entertaining as well as being damn good fun!!
sadly we live in a world where critics try and be original by going against the grain. IGNORE THEM! sit down, open your mind and watch this movie, i can assure you that you will not be disappointed.
Put it this way, a top actor such a Robert De Niro picked this movie, as well as actors such as Ricky Gervais, Clare Danes, Sienna Miller and Michelle Pfeiffer - you think they would allow themselves to star in rubbish? no chance, they picked this movie because they know the business
