Losing it's way...
21 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Family Guy has, over the years, become smarter and it's strength has been in referencing the familiar and being ironic and satirical without being too smug. This particular episode shows the show losing it's way. The jokes seem lazy, the majority of the cultural references wouldn't be understood if you were either non-American or under 30, but there is one main problem: the writers seem to think comedy lies in just copying things with Family Guy characters and expecting it to be funny without actually adding a comedy element. Purely copying something is not in itself funny. This episode just feels like a lost opportunity, which is summed up by the fact that the chicken plays Boba Fett, Peter plays Han Solo, and there's no chicken fight?! Who cares if it wasn't in the original film, it's what we expected, what we wanted, and didn't get. A shame.

Close to the bone, intelligent comedy
17 November 2006
Due to the publicity of this film and also the previous television appearances of it's main character, many people will already have a rough idea of what they're letting themselves in for when going to see this film. Usually limited by the confines of his "sketch" show, Sacha Baron Cohen's character is here allowed more freedom which leans towards a situational comedy rather than a constant flow of set-up situations. This definitely helps to break the monotony of what might otherwise have been a fairly claustrophobic-feeling movie. I saw this film on the first day of it's UK general release and, although there were only 10 other people in the cinema, the laughter really was so loud that I missed parts of the dialogue. Yes this is a familiar story but it's doubtlessly one that will be repeated by people going to future screenings. The racism and perceived social ignorance of he character perfectly exposes the small mindedness, arrogance and bigotry of the many of the targets of his comedy, sometimes scarily so. If you appreciate Borat and know his works already or are just able to appreciate close-to-the-bone humour without being offended then yes go and see it. HOWEVER if satire, irony and even in some parts, toilet humour, are really not your thing, I suggest you avoid this like the plague. Me? I loved it. Funny yet shocking: it's the film equivalent of watching two clowns in a car crash, yes its horrific to watch, but you can't deny the comedy value!

no plot, no scares, no nothing!!!
7 September 2003
like a fool i heard the marketing plees to watch this ilm, oh how duped i felt; this film has no discernible plot, the characters simply grate and their actions make no sense whatsoever! for example, when theyre called by a psychic while ina cafe, the girl tells her "f**k you!" for no reason whatsoever other than a weak attempt to create a little atmosphere (which, if it was the intention, doesn't work!!)

The existence of the creature is explained by stealing the monster idea from the stephen king book "IT" and, at the end of the film after many policemen have been slaughtered and the boy has been taken away by the monster, the girl walks into the daylight while in the background we see the police walking around as though nothing had happened and her parents collect her to take her home as if the brother never existed!! mind you, the character of the boy was so annoying i'm sure they were glad to be rid of him!

i'd recommend this only as an example of how NOT to make a good film!

easy to identify with

if anybody has been set upon by a company, felt hard done by in life, thought as if people aren't as moral as they should be, this is the programme that they should watch. Some people may feel that it is predictable but it does so with intelligence and humour that is such that the viewer doesn't care if they have guessed the ending or not, the programme relies on receiving the empathy of the viewer which I believe, for the most part, this programme achieves extremely well. Very well written, very well acted, and extremely missed.
