Disappointing, but not trash
17 April 2024
TL;DR: disappointing with some commendable aspects, mostly filled with predictable jumpscares, a predictable plot, and some incredibly stupid moments.

I came into the movie giving it the benefit of the doubt, hoping that even though the FNAF has always been aimed at younger people and relied on suspense for its scares, the movie would still be an enjoyable one for long term fans who were now adults. I came out of the movie feeling disappointed.

From start to finish, the movie was very predictable in most aspects. While there were a few commendable intense moments, by and large the movie was far too sanitized and child-friendly for me to find it satisfying. There were also some moments in the movie that were so unbelievable stupid that I'm surprised that they were put in the movie, because they were completely unnecessary.

By and large, the movie was boring and full of cheesy moments.

Incredibly faithful to the novel, gets too much hate
18 February 2024
Don't listen to the bad reviews! Watch the movie and judge for yourself.

This was a surprisingly well done movie. The acting and CGI were quite good despite what some say. While I have some problems with the plot (such as the rushed and ambiguous ending), that can be traced back to the book that Collins wrote because this film was actually incredibly faithful to its novel counterpart.

All of the casting choices were perfect and each actor played their character to (at least near) perfection. I would have a hard time naming a better person to play Coriolanus or Lucy Gray. But the casting for Dr. Gaul is what made my jaw drop. She's actually the most interesting character in both the book and the movie, and Viola Davis' creepy portrayal of her was absolutely top notch.

This film definitely gets too much hate. It was absolutely very well done. For those who complain that it isn't like the original Hunger Games, it isn't supposed to be. This is a masterfully created prequel meant to set the pieces of the original story in place.

Watch it for Darth Vader's scenes
15 April 2023
The show is no masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still worth the watch for a star wars fan, if only for Vader's scenes. The quality of the writing is very uneven, as in some scenes and episodes were good and others were not. Vader's scenes were all well done and by far were the most well-written and enjoyable parts of the series. On the whole, it wasn't terrible but definitely wasn't great. There were some truly idiotic and amateur scenes in the first few episodes especially. But it got better as the show went on (because Vader was in the later episodes, and as I said, Vader's appearances by far were the best part, and one of the only redeeming qualities, of the entire show.)

Verdict: 6/10, bad writing, some truly stupid scenes, Vader's scenes are the only good part of the show.

God of War Ragnarök (2022 Video Game)

Excellent game, GORGEOUS visuals, story is great but slightly disappointing
23 March 2023
Some gameplay spoilers and very minor story spoilers.

Before I talk about my criticisms, let me just get this out of the way: this game is one of the best games of all time. Completely gorgeous and photorealistic graphics, fun and immersive combat, and an excellent story make the game one of the top AAA titles out there.

There are a very few small glitches, but they don't come up too often and a lot of them have been patched since launch. Overall there were no major glitches or problems with frame rate while playing, despite being one of the best looking games in existence.

I didn't find the story to be quite as captivating and emotionally provocative as the first game (the reboot). I have absolutely no criticisms for the first game's story, I think it was perfect in every way.

However's there are some things about this game's story that just don't sit quite right with me. I don't think that the gods (besides Heimdall) were used as well as they were in the first game. Baldur and the twin gods were awesome antagonists, but Odin wasn't excellent or intimidating. Thor had a lot of potential, and some of that was used excellently, but ultimately he felt like a watered-down loser to me. Overall his and Odin's potentials were largely wasted.

Heimdall, however, was an amazing antagonist. He was a compelling villain whose character was easy to hate. I love Heimdall for how much this game made me hate him; overall he's a 10/10 villain.

Overall, everything aspect of Ragnarok (besides the plot) is either on-par or better than the previous game. The graphics are noticeably better than the first (though the first game was gorgeous too), the gameplay was about the same with some improvements, and the immersion was better with this game as well. It's also insanely cool that you can play as Atreus, and his combat system is awesome.

Despite the issues that I had with the story, this game is still absolutely a must buy for a PS4 or PS5 owner.

Star Wars: Battlefront II (2017 Video Game)

Very good multiplayer, however the campaign is lackluster
23 March 2023
This game is all around pretty good. You'll definitely get a ton of enjoyment out of it's multiplayer modes. However, if you're buying it for the story, you'll be sorely disappointed. Glitches (Mostly minor, but annoying all the same), a mediocre plot (at best) and choppy gameplay make the story a lackluster experience. It's not horrible, but it feels generally choppy and there are much better reasons to buy the game than it's story.

However, I can't give enough praise for it's other game modes. I found each individual game mode to be well-thought out and fun, and if you're a newer player the AI systems are very good for getting you on your feet for multiplayer.

The graphics are also gorgeous. Not quite God of War gorgeous, but pretty close. You're able to count each individual hair (stubble?) on Admiral Versio's face, a detail that I thought was pretty cool.

Glitches can be occasionally annoying and immersion-breaking, but are definitely not game-breaking and do not by any means ruin the experience.

Overall 9/10, great multiplayer, very fun, great visuals, mediocre story, minor glitches.

Detroit: Become Human (2018 Video Game)
10/10
Masterfully created
7 February 2023
After hearing about it from a meme, I decided "Why not? It looks good", and I gave it a try. But I had no idea that Detroit: Become Human would end up becoming one of my favorite games of all time.

I was immediately invested in the plots of all three characters. Not only are they completely believable and lifelike, but the ability for you to make important or subtle decisions in the story causes you to feel completely immersed in their stories. That is, you feel directly responsible for all things, good and bad, which result from your actions. This makes D:BH a very emotionally investing game to play; be sure that you will feel horrible if you get a character killed.

Unlike other games, such as God of War or the Batman: Arkham series, where you have essentially no say over the story line, in D:BH you have almost complete control over the events which come to pass. Yes, there is an overarching story that can't be ignored, but the game wastes no time making it clear that there are multiple endings to each chapter, some good, some bad. This leads to a ginormous tree of possibilities to explore, a multitude of branches in the storyline that lead to different endings in the game. I believe that there are around 40 possible endings to achieve, but in some places I've heard that there are closer to 100. I'm not sure.

The only issues I have with the game are the controls, which can be frustrating, and also awkward camera angles in more than a few scenes. Other than that, 10/10 MASTERPIECE!

Excellent gameplay, somewhat lacking story
28 December 2022
First things first, if you're looking for a game with a polished, well-rounded story, run away. MGSV:TPP is not that kind of game. Yes, there is a plot; but it becomes clear very early on in the game that the story of the game is not the main focus.

However, if you're looking for an extremely realistic, sophisticated, and immersive combat system, you'll find it nearly impossible to find a game with better combat than The Phantom Pain.

TPP places you in missions where you have objectives to complete. However, how you complete the objective is entirely up to you. There is not a single scripted event in most of the missions; the game leaves it entirely up to you to complete your objectives. Need to destroy communications equipment in order to cripple the enemies' defenses? Discreetly place and detonate some remote bombs on the equipment and get the heck out of there before the enemy finds you. Or you could blow everything up with a rocket launcher and call it a day. Or perhaps trucking in there with a tank and exploding anything that moves more your style.

What if you need to eliminate a dangerous arms dealer? You could snipe him from a distance and that would be perfectly acceptable. But you could also take him out with a tranquilizer gun and take him back to base to join your team.

Hey, that was the perfect segue to the next amazing thing about metal gear: the mother base system.

You'll be hard pressed to find any other game with a more in depth base building system. Starting out with a mere single platform, by completing objectives, capturing soldiers and collecting resources in the battlefield, you will quickly be able to improve and extend mother base until it becomes an unrivaled private army.

Sounds like a piece of cake? Think again. MGSV:TPP is a very difficult experience. Enemy AI is highly intelligent. Pray to God that you don't get spotted; it's never been so easy and quick to go from smoothly completing a mission without detection by the enemy to desperately searching for cover while they rain down hellfire on you. TPP, In that department, is a very unforgiving game. If you want to get the highest possible score (S rank) on a mission, you'll be forced to carefully plan out your moves and time your movement carefully, because merely being spotted is sometimes enough to obliterate any hopes you had of achieving an S rank. Does it sound fun to be sprinting out of a mission area, having executed every one of your moves perfectly after spending so much time carefully planning your plan of action, only to be spotted by a soldier and being forced to start over? That's happened to me.. I've never been so frustrated in my life.

But there is no feeling quite like that of achieving an S rank. It's so amazing bro. You'll be flying high for the rest of your day because YOU EARNED IT!

Sorry about that rant.

Very good show.
24 December 2022
Acting is excellent, story is very well written, characters are three dimensional and relatable.

I really like this show. It's not perfect but it's pretty close. I watched the whole series in three days and I really hope that Netflix will make a second season.

Some cringy points in the story where the acting or story falters, but on the whole it's a solid tv show.

Some political points are made, but the overarching story has no political agenda.

Definitely don't let your kids watch this. It's rather violent and the monster in the show is like a demon from hell and he will most definitely give your kids nightmares. Swearing is also present in the show. Another reason why your kids shouldn't watch the show is because they won't understand the teen drama and the story. Adults probably wouldn't like the show for that reason, but as a teen I loved it.

Characters, especially Wednesday, are most definitely not role models. Many characters seem to struggle from mental illness. Wednesday acts cold and unfeeling. She's not entirely devoid of feeling, and she does care for at least some of the characters, but generally she's willing to endanger others to get what she wants. She definitely shows some sociopathic tendencies.

Overall 9/10 definitely worth the watch!!!
