Watcher (2022)
A Slow-Burning Thriller that Fizzles Out
The movie begins with a slow and suspenseful build-up that effectively keeps you on the edge for the initial 30 minutes. However, as the plot unfolds, the gradual build-up starts to feel dragged on without a satisfying climax.
The acting by the cast is subpar, leaving uncertainty about whether this might be their first film. The romance between the main characters follows clichés and feels cringey, adding to the movie's lackluster middle portion.
Despite a promising start, the film becomes mundane and boring. The ending, unfortunately, fails to deliver the expected resolution, leaving much to be desired. Overall, "The Watcher" struggles to maintain its early momentum and falls short of creating a truly engaging thriller experience.
The Cleansing Hour (2019)
The Cleansing Hour: A Horror-Comedy?! Misfire
As a devoted fan of the horror genre, I often find myself unimpressed by mainstream attempts to send shivers down the spine. "The Cleansing Hour" proved to be no exception to this rule, despite its 6.0 user rating. While the acting demonstrated a degree of competence and occasional humor brought a fleeting reprieve, the film's struggle to find a coherent identity became apparent.
As a horror enthusiast, I couldn't shake the feeling that "The Cleansing Hour" was trying too hard to stand out, ultimately feeling contrived and cheap. The horror elements, which should be the backbone of any successful horror-comedy, fell short.
The movie's endeavors to break free from conventions often bordered on the absurd, making it difficult to suspend disbelief and immerse oneself in the intended fear. In the realm of low-budget productions, resourcefulness can be a saving grace. However, in the case of "The Cleansing Hour," the financial constraints were glaring, evident in subpar special effects and scenes that lacked the polish expected in the genre.
For hardcore horror fans like myself, this movie offers little to applaud. Its earnest attempt to be different only underscored its shortcomings, leaving an overall impression of a film that, despite its efforts, fails to rise above the trappings of mediocrity.
What Josiah Saw (2021)
Complete waste of time
In the realm of horror cinema, anticipation and suspense should be our constant companions, guiding us through dark and sinister narratives. Unfortunately, this movie failed to grasp this fundamental essence of the genre, leaving audiences with an excruciatingly slow and tedious experience.
The first hour of the film seemed like a disjointed prologue, entirely unrelated to the supposed horror that was promised. It was as if the director had lost their way in the narrative maze, leaving viewers perplexed and uninvested in the unfolding story.
Just when one began to hope for a redeeming twist, the movie tentatively dipped its toes into more engaging waters. However, even then, it failed to conjure any genuine elements of horror or suspense. Instead, what unfolded on screen was nothing short of cringeworthy. Any potential scares were drowned in a sea of mediocrity, leaving viewers yearning for the spine-tingling moments that never arrived. In the end, this movie is a lamentable reminder that horror is an art of anticipation, tension, and fear.
This film, regrettably, falls short on all counts, ultimately failing to deliver the chilling experience horror enthusiasts crave. Save your screams for another flick; this one's not worth the shivers.
