Chris Rock: Selective Outrage (2023)
One of the worst live comedy shows I've seen in years
These jokes just aren't funny. You can be controversial but at least be funny, right? Chris Rock delivers his outrage in a humorless, profane, shouting experience that even the audience couldn't get into. Some of the things he brings up are so terrible, and then the way he delivers them makes it even works. My wife fel asleep on the couch watching this Netflix special and I did too. I wish I could have 1 hour back. This was not good and I hope Chris Rock does better on his next special. It's just not very funny.
Also, Chris Rock managed to blaspheme God and used God's name in vain so many times in this show.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Fun Holiday Story with Unnecessary Settings
This was a fun story that involves many of the characters we know and love. The pop culture references were great and I'm happy that the true reason for the season wasn't disrespected. I like how Mantis was given more screen time and the Guardians are given a fun way to go on a mission for the holiday season. I don't think this is a good show for children under 16 years old. The nightclub scene was completely unnecessary (no spoilers).
*** spoilers ***
Really inappropriate to beat up police and beat up a mascot and break into a Celebrity's home. I think there could have been more tasteful ways to be funny.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Spectacle That Doesn't Make You Care About the Characters
The beginning and the end of the movie were the best parts. The villain is really creepy, so I won't be taking my kids to see this one. This is much darker than Thor Ragnarok, and the comedy is forced in the name of love and thunder. The writers managed (intentionally?) to possibly offend atheists and believers in a higher power with some of the dialogue. Disney once again managed to wrap adult themes in movies with children involved. If it wasn't so good looking, it would be 2 stars.
Ben 10: Race Against Time (2007)
Rarely do my kids not like a movie
My kids love Ben 10 cartoons but they hated this movie. My son said it barely gets a 1 out of 10. The special effects were bad.
*** SPOILER ALERT ***
He only turns into 3 aliens and there is only fighting at the beginning and end. The acting was awful.
I hope everybody learned from this experience and had wonderful careers.
The Wonderful World of Disney: Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (2002)
This movie is absolutely horrible.
The whole premise of this movie is cringeworthy. I hate this movie. It is not fun to watch and everything about it seems amateur. YouTube videos are better than this. Don't waste your time.
Free Guy (2021)
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Beyond the pop culture references and adventure is symbolism of a beautiful sacrifice.
This is perhaps the best movie of 2021 so far. It's easy to get lost in the world of Free City, and you never quite know where the story is taking you next. The final scenes of the movie are some of the most exciting I've seen since Ready Player One and I can't wait to see Free Guy again. I'm actually writing notes for a podcast I'm going to do on the symbolism I found in the movie. This is a triumph. This is a yes for me.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
Save Your Money. Come on Disney.
Did Disney pay for the positive reviews? I took my family to see this movie and I was disappointed in some of the elements. Positives: Beautiful scenery, animals, suspense, peril. Negatives: Many. There are contrived social commentaries that come out of nowhere, crude sexual jokes, intentionally terrible jokes, the writing is awful, the acting is horrible, and I fell asleep a couple times in my seat. My son said it seemed an awful like one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. It was just bad, formulaic, and a waste.
The Green Knight (2021)
I did not like this movie at all.
There is no plot. You do not like the main character at all. There are things introduced in the story that make it seem like someone just threw it together. Like a painter that splatters paint onto a canvas and calls it art. I think the character broke the 4th wall on the ending line. I can appreciate those who say this is art cinema, but that's not what the previews showed. This was weird, grotesque, contrived, and overall a waste of my money.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Come for the performances of Cheetah and Maxwell Lord
Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal really played their parts in this movie. I give a 10 to their performances. The writing, pacing, and CGI of the movie deserve 4* which is why I gave this movie a 7*. Kristen and Pedro do a great job with bringing depth to the material.
Overall, this movie is fun comic book fare and my 6 year old daughter enjoyed it very, very much. I will see it again.
Fast Color (2018)
Pleasantly Surprising
I am a fam of big budget superhero movies and I went into Fast Color not knowing what to expect. I enjoyed this film. It is a little slow but that allows for the plot to unfold and I believe the pacing matches the current conditions that the story is set in. The acting is really good and the effects are well done. The emotion of the story is captured well and I like the score also.
Knives Out (2019)
This Movie Was Excellent
A Moderate Paced Setup Turns Into a wonderfully woven tale of intrigue and mystery. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was suspenseful and well played. Two thumbs up.
Us (2019)
Believe the Hype - This Movie is Deep
This movie is a refreshing entry into the horror genre. Jordan Peele weaves a story loosely based on real life events to tell a horrific and thrilling story about, Us! I enjoyed this movie and saw it with two other couples. There are many questions that are left to answer and the way the plot unfolds is careful and deliberate. I enjoyed the acting and the music. It was interesting.
The Upside (2017)
This Movie Surprised Me!
I went to this movie not knowing what to expect, and I was surprised by the depth of the characters, the storytelling, and the comedic delivery of the actors throughout the story. Kevin Hart convinced me halfway through that this wasn't his normal role and once I got that I was hooked for the climax and the emotional conclusion. This movie is refreshing and unique and I enjoyed each moment.
Kin (2018)
A Good Movie with Great Potential
This Movie is really interesting and the story unfolds throughout. The ending is fantastic and everything a sci-fi fan would hope for. I just wish the rest of the movie was like that. The main character is complex and conflicted about his actions. I think this movie should have been rated R if they were going to have a "Girls Girls Girls" scene. Other than that, I like the cameo at the end and the cast is on point. This movie could be even better, but with what we have it is enjoyable and different from anything else out there.
The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
This Movie Is Not Good
I wish that was enough to say, but I can elaborate. If you are looking for a basic movie to pass the time, this film might be for you. The acting, dialogue, music, plot devices leave a lot to be desired.
The Equalizer 2 (2018)
Excellent Movie - Denzel Shines
I went in not knowing what to expect from this movie after the first go round and let me tell you, they really stepped up the action, the pacing, the writing, this movie is 100x better than the original, which I liked also.
Some of the scenes are violent but realistic and I really enjoyed how Denzel takes a moment to preach about getingnwith the right people and pursuing your dreams. There are some noteworthy performances in the movie and scenes take place around the world.
I highly recommend this movie and hope you enjoy it!
