A Simple Plan (1998)
A Simple Plan - A Complex Masterpiece
Three men are walking around in a snow covered forest somewhere in Minnesota. They find a plane wreck, and in the plane wreck they find 4.4 million dollars. They decide too keep it, hide it for some time and to split it up and move away as soon as the air is clean. But what they thought to be a simple plan turns into a nightmare of greed and murder.
The basic premise of this movie is not very original, but the way the story unfolds is absolutely brilliant. We are shown how a regular guy commits a crime and then gets drawn into a whirlpool of terror, forced to commit even worse crimes in order to cover for the original one. In the end you could call him a mass murderer. What is great about the screenplay is that it is able to convince us that this is something that could happen to anyone.
The Performances are universally excellent. Especially Billy Bob Thornton, who gives a truly great, and at times heartbreaking performance as a not very bright nor pretty middle-aged man that is doomed to life of loneliness.
This is a must-see for everyone who knows what's good
