Invictus (2009)
Very Educational
A good sport related film that shows not only a team of Rugby players competing for a win in the world cup finals, but also a country fighting for a place where all citizens have equal rights. Mandela as the president plays a big role in this as he has a huge impact on the captain of the South African Rugby team. This country lived in chaos for a long time undermining the black peoples rights. A lot of people went through a great deal of pain and loss as the blacks continued to fight for their rights. This is a good movie to show our Cinema class as a lot of young students don't always know much on this topic.
Defiance (2008)
Eye Opening
This film has an emotional side to it. To think that some cultures need to be exempt from this world is a very sad thing to do. No one culture is better than another. We need to be more willing to live in a diverse world. I think this is another great film because of the action in it. I thought the characters did a great job of acting, and bringing this true story to life for others to get a view or a reminder of what the Jew culture went through years ago. It plays a big part in our history. The setting is very realistic, and the actors really had to adapt to the coldness as they weren't able to quickly warm up as they may have liked too. A very intense action packed film displaying a piece of history for all to view.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
A Fun Action Packed Film
Ford vs Ferrari was a fast paced film that included a lot of conflict between characters, nature, and with in themselves. The characters did a good job of acting their roles and made the film fun to watch. I enjoyed the scenes with the actual car racing the most as I myself do a lot of sled racing. I love driving fast and enjoy the challenge of competing. Competition is a big part of the racing world and there is always some conflict within. This creates an intense environment and engages viewers. This film is based on a true story, and it's sad that in the end the main character doesn't finish first just to satisfy the Ford company.
12 Years a Slave (2013)
Eye opening
I feel "Long Walk to Freedom" was a great educational film to watch with our Cinema class. It had a lot of intense scenes that captured the attention of our class. These intense moments make the film more interesting and definitely more real. For a group of people to be treated so cruelly, is quite disturbing. There is no reason why all people can't be treated with respect, and yet this continues to happen around the world to people. I think using accurate settings, and telling the truth in the film is a good technique to use to allow people to know what happened in our history. It's not always easy to watch these historical films but helps us remember, or be mindful to not repeat this in the future.
Indian Horse (2017)
Indian Horse
I think the film makers did a good job of presenting the setting in a realistic way. You could feel along with the indigenous children as they were strpped of their culture right from the start of their time spent at the residential school. I thought that Sladen
Peitier did a great job of acting for something that would obviously have hit home and may have made it more difficult to deal with the added emotions. It was also presented in a good way to get people to really feel the pain or emotion that the Indigenous people went through.
I thought it was hard to watch as no one should ever be treated so poorly.
