Assassin (2023)
Taking Failure From the Hands of Victory
It was an interesting concept at the beginning, I was engaged. But then the movie just took a peculiar path off the rails. It was jarring and illogical. It was as if you went from an action movie to a fantasy movie without notice, as if one writer wrote the first part, and then they brought in the diversity hire. It could've been so good but they completely screwed it up.
Honestly, just don't waste your time on this. People are saying this was the best Bruce Willis movie, they're lying. Die Hard was the best Bruce Willis movie and I dare you to disagree, this is another payday for him with minimal effort.
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Glad I watched it, you should too
Imagine you're a potato eating, miniature donkey loving, beer drinking Irishman. Then imagine you're not the brightest bulb in your village. That is the role Colin Farrell played in this movie, and he did great. I had no idea what to expect, I saw it was 8/10 at the time of watching and figured I'd give it a shot.
Well I'm glad I did. It wasn't an epic storyline, but those are a bit boring at this point, let's actually think a bit wouldn't you say? This movie is about death, friends, and our ambitions, and how they sometimes conflict with each other. If you've lived in this world long enough you'll appreciate the subtle drama this movie presents.
I won't give away the end, but it's understandable from an emotional perspective.
Blonde (2022)
Watch it for yourself
I read the negative reviews on here and decided to see what all the fuss was about. I went into it expecting to hate it and like others had said, to turn it off after a half hour. Well that didn't happen, there's something else going on with the negative reviews and I suspect I know what.
Im not saying the movie is perfect, I gave it 10/10 out of spite for the negative reviewers, it's more like an 8 or 9. She's crying every other scene and there's subject matter that made me uncomfortable. But it's a well made dark story, if you're into that sort of thing you'll like it.
Many reviewers said you could hear the actress' Cuban accent through the movie, I didn't hear it and I was looking for it. I did find it interesting though that a common theme was that after about a half hour or so people stopped watching and left a negative review, because that's about the time she got an abortion and later says 'I killed my baby for this?' Wow I wonder what set people off.
Others are talking about the movie exploiting her in death, and that's just childish. It is a work of fiction and it doesn't paint her as an angel, but from what I know about her it isn't all that far fetched, and adults will realize that she had a tough time and maybe wasn't perfect. How many movies have been made about other people who have passed? No outrage there?
So bottom line is: Watch it for yourself, don't listen to the babies.
