The Twilight Zone: Death Ship (1963)

A great plot despite the disappointing ending
7 May 2023
A great plot, great actors, great ideas, a bad ending that copies the ending of other stories in the series itself. Even before the end, it has the same level of fiction and suspense as the film The Forbidden Planet, but it is ruined by the ending, which is completely out of science fiction. Not following the style of the story at the end is the worst thing a movie can have. It destroys everything and it gets frustrating. But I still give it an 8 for the atmosphere, interpretation and development of the story. It holds your attention despite the disappointing ending.

A great plot despite the disappointing ending.

Probably the script was written by ChatGPT
29 April 2023
Probably the script was written by ChatGPT. They fed the program with some famous spy movies, took out its soul and that was it. It's worse than shows with one-twentieth of the budget. Where did they put $300 million? And making jokes about another movie doesn't change the fact that it's copy and cliché like when the protagonist's wife says he's not Jason Bourne just to alleviate the plagiarism. The scene where the protagonist goes to retrieve equipment that his enemies have been looking for eight years is embarrassing. My mother going to buy bread at the bakery is more exciting. Boring and copy of the copy of the copy of other movies. Not to mention the numerous plot holes and absurdities. I gave 3 because of the good actors.

Even watching it at 1.5x it is boring and draggy
19 March 2023
Even watching it at 1.5x speed and skipping 10 seconds every time the movie is boring and draggy. The supposed mystery is ridiculous, the protagonist is a terrible actor and there are a series of scenes of people in the city being hostile that make no sense and are not even explained. One of the worst scripts I've seen in a while, if there ever was a script. I assume that maybe there were more scenes but the movie got so much more boring that they must have cut it because there's a lot of nonsense. All in all, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Don't waste your time, watch any 1959 Twilight Zone episode that in 25 minutes has more emotion and mystery than this movie pastiche.

Like most A24 films, it doesn't have a story, just a situation
3 March 2023
Like most A24 films, it doesn't have a story, just a situation stretched to the extreme in a boring and tiring way, pushing the viewer's patience to the limit. The ending makes no sense, as well as the rest of the film. The subplot of the brother of one of the protagonists adds absolutely nothing to the situation.

A24 has a powerful marketing system that is very competent, which overestimates its films and should also "influence" a lot on festival judges.

The film is boring, exhausting and pointless. A single interesting situation is not enough to make a movie, which needs a good story. There are no conflicts and everyone's acceptance of the situation is also totally unreal.

A meaningless movie with a series of meaningless little stories
29 September 2022
A meaningless movie with a series of meaningless little stories that ends abruptly, forced and says nothing about anything. The film even starts well, with a good idea, but unfortunately the script is not able to develop it. The stories come and go without entertaining or moving. George Miller is an amazing action director who was born to direct Mad Max. He always fails to direct emotion and humor. That's why Mad Max 3 was a disaster. He should have spent this time and money on the next film in the Mad Max franchise. That's what he was born to write and direct.

I give 2 because of the actors effort.

The same flaws of Lost
9 September 2022
The series started very well but gradually got worse, with several inconsistencies, repetitions of situations and a lot of soap opera scenes, especially towards the end. The mystery starts off interesting, but then becomes a mixture of horror, magic, religion, science fiction and fantasy, which don't connect to each other, they are just randomly thrown on the screen. They use various mystery tricks that are never revealed and end up irritating. It gives exactly the same impression as Lost, where strange events take place and then most of them go unexplained. As one of the creators of the series came from Lost, you can tell he hasn't learned anything. As someone already said here, it's a mixture of Lost and Wayward Pines, but this one explained the mystery already in the middle of the first season, but in From it's just mysteries and situations randomly thrown along the script. Any good mystery series will give some explanations throughout or towards the end of the sea son. Here qe have the logic of Lost, which proved to not work, except to keep the audience high in an artificial and unintelligent way. There are also several character reactions and dramas that are artificial or too corny. The series started with a 9 rating and ended with a 2. I give 4.

great until episode 3, from then on it gets weaker, repetitive and boring
14 August 2022
I thought the series was great until episode 3, from then on it gets weaker, repetitive and boring. There are numerous plot holes that I believe are not part of the real story. The main thing is that from a certain point, Jimmy, infiltrated in a crazy and violent prison by the FBI, no longer has a way of contacting the FBI that put him in jail and was racing against time to find evidence of Larry's crimes, and leaves him "forgotten" there, thrown to his own luck. This huge hole, obviously created to create tension and suspense, for me it did the opposite, it showed a huge script flaw and slash force just to generate tension that becomes artificial. It makes the hottest FBI agent look like an incompetent. Jimmy's conflict with the corrupt guard and the prison's leading prisoner are not going anywhere, they are sub-plots that don't make the story move, they just fill up sausage, like the prison riot, which was completely unecessary. The protagonists Jimmy and Larry do not even appear in the scene, which does not affect the story at all. There are several script flaws. They wasted a great story and great actors. The part of the prison that should be the most tense and interesting ends up being the weakest and most disjointed. Even Jimmy and Larry's characters get repetitive because their characters don't advance in the story and have no sub-layers. Jimmy's character's supposed redemption is forced and thrown around without much context. The script failed to create a real connection point between the two or a great point of tension. The flashback scenes of the murdered kid and Jimmy's relationship with his father, which should generate emotion, are also repetitive and boring.

I would give it a 10 up to episode 3, and a 4 from episode 4 to 6. Overall I give it a 6.

stupid, corny and brainless copy of Dark's idea
7 May 2022
Stupid, corny and brainless copy of Dark's idea.

Stupid characters with stupid choices with stupid scenes.

A horrible copy of Dark's idea without talent and brain.

The producers should be suited.

A lot of unecessary and streched scenes.

I was bored in the Last episode when things should run fast. No likeable characters or subplots.

A complete mess. No solution or explanation at the end. A new Lost with much less talent and imagination.

Complete incoherent mess
9 April 2022
How did Akiva Goldman and Patrick Stewart, both executive producers, participate in a series so poorly written, boring, pointless and making a complete incoherent mess with the Starfleet story and characters only to bring them all together in a disjointed way? The series is embarrassing. Mexican soap operas are less ridiculous. Look at the IMDB comments, it has all the flaws in the comments. Do not trust the note, obviously manipulated by fans or by Paramount. Episode 6 of the second season is not only one of the worst in the Star Trek universe, but the worst of any TV series ever produced.

Best Brazlian film since it was filmed.
9 February 2022
It was one of the rare national films that catches the eye, it has good twists and a very creative use of framing and camera movements but without exaggeration. Great action scenes and despite the hyperbole of the script, these are justifiable due to the story being told by a narrator. The only drawback is the first, poetic images, which give the impression that it will be another style of film. My wife had already given up on the movie in these scenes, but I insisted that we continue and she loved it too. The casting and the direction of actors is stupendous. Best brazilian film since it was filmed. Congratulations to the director/writer and all the technical staff and actors.

Very funny
28 January 2022
I rarely laugh in national comedies, which are getting worse and ridiculous and I can't take 15 minutes, but I laughed a lot in this movie from start to finish, as did my wife. I don't understand the low grade here on IMDB, it's probably the "mimizeiros" and "lacradores" who are offended by heavier jokes or black humor. The character of Peçanha is a lot of fun and the script knows how to explore the best of him. The actor who plays him is brilliant. There is only one serious problem with the sound, the dialogues are sometimes too low or sometimes it is incomprehensible due to mixing problems with the music and other noises. I'm sorry it's too short, it could have been extended to the normal length of a feature film.

Stupid story setting
27 December 2021
I thought the teaching in Korea was excellent, but how to justify the lack of water on a planet whose surface is covered by 2/3 of water that can be desalinated? Why fetch water from the Moon if Antarctica's ice contains 70% of the planet's fresh water?

Just out there, you can already know the intellectual level of the writers, the producer and the director... and also of the people who enjoyed the series.

Pure nonsesnse
13 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What irritates me most in science fiction films is the ignorance of screenwriters and directors in the scientific aspect. They misrepresent normal logic and science itself to wrap the viewer and in the end show that nothing was clever and they were just huge holes in the script, created just to trap you in the chair thinking it was smart and guaranteeing the audience. But what was intriguing and mysterious became absurd and irritating.

Spoilers

A cryogenic chamber with artificial gravity for which, if the person would sleep? If she was going to sleep in space why did she need the ability to make phone calls? And so on. It is pure nonsesnse.

Great mix of Renato Aragão with Jackie Chan
19 March 2021
Very funny parody of American police films, where Edmilson Filho manages to make a great mix of Renato Aragão with Jackie Chan. The mood ranges from the innocent to the sophisticated, with great jokes and great balances, always keeping laughter in high frequency. The rest of the cast gets into the mood very well, from the famous to the unknown, with emphasis on the always great Matheus Nachtergale, perfect in the one-two with Edmislon, and Falcão showing enormous talent and presence on the scene. The direction is great, fluid, competent in humor and great action scenes for national cinema. The fighting choreographies, obviously inspired by Jackie Chan's films, are surprising for their quality, with agility, humor and great editing. The national version of the classic song of "Beverly Hills Cop", "The Heat Is On", was fantastic. Full of quotes from stars and action films from the 80s and 90s, the film is delicious. It has countless hilarious and clever scenes, something rare in national comedies. The scene where Edmilson and Matheus need to pretend to be a gay couple to enter an event is sensational, without appeals or extremisms, showing the immense talent of the two actors. The scene in which Edmilson discovers that the Chinese restaurant only has Northeasterners is a great idea. Every technical part is excellent, with a few minor slips in the sound. Great national comedy that stands out from the no-brainer and repetitive comedies that multiply in Brazil, even from Leandro Hassun, who after he lost weight and wanted to become a dramatic actor, melted the broth. Edmilson Filho is a great heir to the innocent and fun humor of "Os Trapalhões", but with his own personality.

Great idea, bad script
5 February 2021
The screenwriter/director lacked skills to make the film more dynamic and less boring. There are many dialogues and once again I notice the tendency of the current bad scripts that want to pass the excitement of the scene simply by making the actor cry and speak sad. It is boring and embarrassing. This director must have the humility to hire more writers to work with him to create good scenes. And the ending looks like a Mexican soap opera, was it a tribute to Salma Hayek?

THE BEST BRAZILIAN COMEDY IN YEARS
19 November 2020
Very funny comedy, the best of recent years in Brazil, with an excellent script, well tied, great interpretations, especially by Luis Lobianco who surprises in the role of homophobic male and in his mood changes. The direction is very fluid, aided by the exceptional camera and photography and the inspired editing. The art direction and costumes follow the film's high technical level. A flawless film, which only exaggerates the anti-homophobic activism a little but does not compromise the result, as it is within the theme addressed. I found a comment here on IMDB disrespectful that says the film is boring and stereotyped. It is a comedy that deals with a serious topic in a humorous way, in fact it plays with stereotypes in a fun and intelligent way. The musical numbers are great and pay homage to Priscila, Queen of the Desert. They got everything right. Grade 10.

Bad series, it looks like a Mexican soap opera.
24 October 2020
Bad series, it looks like a Mexican soap opera. The internal conflicts on the ship are too artificial. An entire episode spent to fix an antenna? Such a team in real life is prepared extensively with many individual and group psychological tests. To go to our base in Antarctica, where the crew members spend a year and can be changed at any time, with constant communication, there are weeks of tests of the commander's leadership, interaction between all, etc. And reservations are already defined in advance. Someone with family problems would never be allowed to continue on the mission, especially as Commander. In a 3-year mission to Mars, the conflicts and discussions that occur in this series would never occur. The Netflix Top 10 must have reflected the initial curiosity, but I believe that the vast majority abandoned the series in the first episodes like me. Hence the cancellation. Since I was a child I love everything about Mars, but this series is inedible.

Half the audience came out during the screening
18 October 2020
At the cinema where I went to watch, at the time of its release, it was a Saturday night, in one of the best cinemas in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro. There were about 12 people in the cinema. 6 came out throughout the film. One of them, when he left, shouted good-naturedly: good luck to you. We all laugh. Well, I'm just going to say that I regret not going out with him. I'm sorry to have to make this statement here, I know how difficult it is to make cinema in Brazil. Just putting a movie on the screen is already a great merit, but nothing forgives a bad script, because it is the part of the film where it is least spent and that affects the whole. It is unfortunate that Brazilian directors still hesitate to film any badly finished script. And this same problem occurred in one of the director's next films, As Boas Maneiras, which has a series of serious script problems. A feather. I suggest more attention to the script in the next films. Give it to other people who are not friends to read

The worst movie I ever saw. Boring, misdirected, no story, no sense. It's unbelievable that anyone made such a movie. It looks like a movie from the 70's that nobody wanted to show in theaters or television and was forgotten on the shelf of some studio.

Very boring, nothing happens
26 December 2019
I put the movie for my mother to watch, an old Catholic woman, and she gave up in the middle of the movie. She complained that it was slow, boring, that nothing happened, that it was just the two popes talking and that she already knew the end. That's her opinion, which I find interesting, but I still intend to watch the movie.

Lost in Space (2018–2021)

Not lost in space but only in a single planet
14 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I two episodes and was completely disappointed. First of all the magic of the series was completely lost because they are not lost in space but in a single planet. It sounds like a joke but it makes all the difference. The original series was about space travel and encounter with different alien species (okay that everyone looked human and spoke English ... rs). This one has nothing to do with the original, I've seen the summaries of the other episodes, and it will be everything on this planet and without any intelligent alien species, that is, everything that made the original series great and compelling was thrown in the trash. This desire to change, to reboot, only produces crap. The despair and haste of Netflix in having original series is leaving the quality control very low. This is just a very weak family drama set on another planet. Not to mention that the father of the family became a stupid controlled by his wife and daughters.

Horrible as science fiction and pathetic as a love story
6 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is what I call a lazy script from a weak screenwriter to an interesting idea. Every good science fiction movie has to have the scientific side with a minimum of consistency. Relevant explanations, which are the premises for buying the plot, are played in some dialogues quickly and unconvincingly. In fact, it is never explained why the whole crew sleeps and they do not take turns to control the progress of the trip, and why if everyone sleeps, there is no protocol to wake up some crew members in case of emergency. Why someone who wakes up cannot hibernate again if this is the basis of the trip? Why the crewman who woke up, seeing the eminence of the ship's destruction, did not wake up any more crewmen instead of leaving all the safety of the ship in the hands of two inexperienced passengers? Why make a ship so spacious and luxurious for passengers who spend 99.9% of the trip sleeping? The more mass, the more energy and the greater the cost of travel to a company that aims for profit. If the company owned the ship was for profit, they did not think that a ship traveling at 50% of the speed of light would travel thousands of years to the future (Basic Relativity Law). The problem that caused the crash in the ship is the most basic of a stellar trip and yet it was not thought of? Otherwise, they are important premises for the plot that are simply pushed aside. All could have been properly answered and integrated into the plot by a good screenwriter. Or they should be changed. In fact the film is horrible as science fiction and pathetic as a love story.

A very boring and stretched episode of a bad soap opera
9 January 2014
I don't think this is really a movie; it seems more a very boring and stretched episode of a bad soap opera before the editing to fit a 50 minutes episode. Brazilian TV Globo makes much better episodes of its soap operas, every day, in only 50 minutes, than this pointless group of stories with no meaning at all and very bad acting that goes over and over by 2 and a half hours. The only exception is the brilliant actor Irandhir Santos but in a very small role.

Some foreign people maybe have seen something interesting about watching the Brazilian life in a regular neighborhood, because they don't know Brazil, but in this case, it is like a mocumentary and it doesn't make it a good film even why almost anything happens in the film, there are better and more interesting neighborhoods to be shown.

Some critics, obviously friends or friendly with the director, who is a critic too, pointed out some qualities that maybe were all in the intention or in the head of the director but for sure are not in the film. This way of reviewing movies is very common in Brazil, most of "intelectualoides" critics, like the director, prefer to judge the pseudo-ideas behind the movie besides what is really in the screen and how it affects the public. This happens because these people make movies in Brazil with Government money and they don't have the concern of making money with the public of their films, because they make the money in the production, receiving their money as screenwriter, director, producer, etc. This way they are able to do whatever they want with a complete despise by the public opinion and stay happy with the complements of their "intelectualoides" critics and friends in more than one hundred Film Festivals whose juries think like then. The consequence is that it has been a long time since Brazil doesn't receive a decent prize in a decent Festival, besides TROPA DE ELITE in Berlin, that was done by a director who wasn't a critic or "intelectualoide" and was concerned about the public and telling a good story, that is exactly what doesn't exist here. Unfortunately this movie was indicated by Brazil to represent the country in the foreign Oscar e guess what? It was a shame, not even in the eight final possible nominated it was. Very understandable by the way. This director many times showed his despise by the TV Network Globo and now I can understand why. He wanted to work there writing or directing soap operas and he wasn't able to get the job…by this film I can understand why.
