Non-Stop Action & Larger than Life Characters = Great Movie
18 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Caution: This review contains several spoilers. - I watched this movie twice on DVD and enjoyed it better the second time. I don't know about the fake explosions being too fakey - but the movie really rocks. - I liked the dialogue, the characters, the story line, the photography and everything. - The story begins with a real mystery over why there is a big contract out on this unassuming, do-nothing FBI clerical analyst - and that mystery continues to hover over the events that follow. What's not to like in this movie ? ( I am shouting emphatically now ! ) You have got the 'Hannibal Lector' guy, the 'two - face' guy, the self-exploding flying midgets, the jazz playing black guy - FBI agent that seems to be unkillable, the assassin with the kiss of death and the beautiful body and it goes on and on. I wish they had used the ending that they show in the deleted scenes it is more poetic than the ending that they actually went with. - Tom Berenger was an excellent choice for the leading role - an older man - few of words - but having a lot of hidden wisdom and experience - - and, finally, revealing the 'Joker' in the deck !

This movie 'Blew me away' with the Fury of an Antarctic Storm!
22 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
A Terrific - Tense - Action - Thriller. A well written, intelligent story that keeps you guessing right up until the end as to who the protagonist can trust - - and who the protagonist needs to look out for. Antarctica is the setting of this mystery thriller and the severe freezing temperatures, the blasting Antarctic winds and the thick ice sheets - all play into the story - There is a constant feeling of dread - if one is forced to step outside the safety of the worker's barracks - you could freeze to death in minutes if you haven't taken all of the precautions needed to protect you from the cold. - However, this movie did not leave me cold - - I liked it a lot. - ( Yes, in a major fight sequence you couldn't tell who was who - - and some times the motives of the characters is pretty confusing - but that is not unusual in today's movies. )

Worst Movie Ever - - By that I mean = Really Bad !
20 January 2010
This movie is bad in every category imaginable: Every single actor in the movie is self conscious in front of the camera and / or can't act. The movie is full of long winded dialog at first. The story line is choppy and confusing. Costuming looks like they individually picked their costumes from a second hand store. Some of the slang used in the movie is contemporary - not something heard in the West in the 1800's - In the movie - one cowboy turns to another and actually says: "Don't get your short's in a knot!" If you watch this - be ready to watch a second rate community theater put on a western play with somebody filming it with a movie camera. - But there is one good thing about it - - no, wait - - actually - there isn't one good thing I can say about it. - -
