Bob's Burgers: The Amazing Rudy (2023)
Amazing indeed
I actually loved this episode. After years and years of the same stories around the Belchers, it's a fresh view into the other characters lives and how they view the Belchers. The previous season went for emotions and heartfelt moments over laughter a few times (Cemetery Episode, Christmas, etc) and it really worked. If this season does it again from time to time, it could be a great shift - as long as they don't overdue it and keep the show true to its main focus. I feel the only reason a 9/10 is it could have used a hint more humor, and maybe toned down the sadness just a tad? It started off too quickly into the mood versus building into it.
Bob's Burgers: The Plight Before Christmas (2022)
A shift in the show
Agree with all the reviews. This episode caught me off guard in such a pleasant way. The show hasn't been funny for a while, and many episodes felt mundane or actually bad. (Such as Puttsgiving) But this shift towards a heartwarming family show has been great. Last weeks episode regarding Bobs mothers grave had the same feel, and such beautiful art.
Not sure if they have a new writer, producer, etc. But this formula of emotion with sprinkles of comedy, and a clear upgrade in visuals has been wonderful. Whoever was in charge of this episodes writing and vision should be attached to many more. Definitely rewatching this episode before Christmas.
Westworld: Zhuangzi (2022)
First thought provoking episode in years...
Season 3 and the first part of 4 genuinely lacked a psychological and philosophical component that made early Westworld such a masterpiece. Yes, some episodes since have had mystery and shock value, but I never felt uneasy and genuinely questioning things about reality, self awareness, or right and wrong. This episode finally brought that back!
Some of the slower scenes of just conversation in this episode were amongst the best even, just like many of the scenes from Season 1.
This might be one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. Not exactly season 1 quality, but the closest we've had since and a good direction for this series.
Bob's Burgers: Some Like It Bot Part 1: Eighth Grade Runner (2022)
An odd gem of an episode
I did not expect to like this so much. I haven't really enjoyed a lot of Bobs Burgers episodes the last couple of seasons, but this was a fun episode with a good moral story underlined. I only would say it's not 10/10 because it wasn't necessarily funny - which is typically what I want from Bobs Burgers.
