The Wedding Year (2019)
Cute movie took a bit to grow on mr
I was dubious at 1st. I didn't care for the 2 lead characters - didn't think they had chemistry. But I carried on and the movie grew on me. It's a sweet romance and I found myself rooting for them. But of course the plot was predictable and had a happy ending, but sometimes that's all you want in a movie.
I actually found myself hoping for a sequel. I think their marriage and inevitable children would be another easy and fun movie to watch.
If you are looking for a profound love story....keep looking, this isn't it. If you want to smile and reminisce a little for less than 2 hours..this will fit the bill.
Red Notice (2021)
Fun movie, what was everyone expecting
I liked this movie. It didn't take itself seriously. I thought Ryan's character was hysterical and I was surprised at the twist at the end. There are a lot of action scenes, which are not my favorite. They were well done but too much for my taste. Ryan's nonstop banter was priceless. And the Rock did what he does best. The nice teddy bear guy..until...
First time seeing Gal onscreen and I was pleasantly surprised. She played the villain with a wink and some awesome fight moves. The remaining characters were just filler. The selling point was the dialog between Ryan and Dwayne.
Overall just a lighthearted fun heist movie.
The Tender Bar (2021)
Feel good movie with some great acting
This slice of life, nostalgic movie brought me back to my childhood growing up in a blue collar Midwestern town. The bar patron characters felt very real and I've met every one of them in my old neighborhood bars. The movie did a great job of capturing the feel of the 70's and the music was fantastic. Although Lily Rabe's character was a bit cliche. Ben Afflect did a great job, but basically a smarter Chuckie from Good Will Hunting. A few details bothered me. The seasons never changed. They were stuck in March. It never got green. Even during the beach scene at the end. Maybe that was intentional. The young and old JR had zero resemblance to each other. Although JR graduated in '86, the 70's feel remained throughout the movie. Even the music. Again, maybe intentional. Overall a sweet coming of age movie, albeit with colorful language.
