Megamind (2010)
10/10
CODE: This movie is totally Awesome!
7 November 2010
I went to this movie, not having very high hopes for it after seeing a bunch of flops lately. Boy, this blew my (Mega)Mind! Megamind is sweet, funny, adorable, cheesy, and rockin!

With impressions of Marlon Brando, the constant saying of "Me-trocity", witty dialog, the soundtrack consisting of AC/DC, Guns n' Roses, Black Sabbath, old superhero references and did I say great 3-D effects? This movie was actually worth the extra charge for 3-D (unlike some others). As soon as the credits rolled I was already EXIT-ed to see it again. Great fun for the whole family. Round off 2010 with a cute movie, well worth seeing in 3-D.

I would recommend this movie to anyone, and I'm sure I will be quoting it for another few weeks.

A good movie, for an independent audience.
31 July 2010
If you were in a movie theater and saw posters that said, "Extremely hilarious!" or that it's a great comedy, ignore the advertising. This movie is an independent drama with few laughs and full of awkward moments.

From a critics perspective, the movie is great for an independent film and captures great human emotions and realistic life through a hand-held camera.

Played before a normal audience, it is hard to sit through and you may even want to get up and leave the theater. It is a decent movie, but only for a small audience. I would definitely not see this movie again.

Movie for Schmucks
30 July 2010
The only people who would possibly enjoy and find this movie terrific are possibly the dumbest people on earth--who can quite match up to Steve Carrell's character in this blunder and waste of Hollywood talent.

I have seen so many great movies with Carrell and Rudd, this was not one of them. The movie should have been called, "How my life was ruined by the biggest idiot in the world".

Unrealistic, ridiculous, and only funny to those on the same level of the Schmucks. I would not see this movie again. Ever.

Inception (2010)

INCredible
27 July 2010
This is a movie where the audience needs to see the movie twice to fully grasp the entire plot. In this case, it is definitely not a bad thing. I just got back from the IMAX showing of Inception a second time, fully blown away by visuals that put Avatar to shame.

Despite the incredible special effects, it is the sheer complexity of Inception that is the masterpiece.

This movie earns a 10/10 for mastering all the genres of movies into one. Action, Suspense, Drama, Comedy, Science Fiction, etc etc etc. I have not met one person who has hated Inception.

Nolan at his best so far, and yes this is coming from a Dark Knight fanatic. It only leaves us wishing for more. If this movie does not win Best Picture, I don't know what will.

Dragonball obviously hasn't taught us anything.
1 July 2010
I didn't go to the premier with high hopes for this movie. After all, I lost hope in M. Night Shyamalan after The Village. I was not let down by how bad I thought The Last Airbender would be.

How bad is it? It should have been a nickelodeon TV movie instead. The 3-D was useless, and the entire movie was just painful to watch.

The acting--by everyone-- was terrible and had me cringing at the terrible script and attempts at comedy. Aside from bad acting, the pronunciations were horrendous, maybe because Shyamalan couldn't purchase the full rights to the words "Ong"(Aang), "Ovatar" (Avatar) and "So-ka" (Sokka).

There was nothing good or fun about this movie, and even the 'bending' was over acting. You will see what I mean if you choose to see this. Would I see it again? Maybe to make fun of it later, but I would not pay any more money to see this B movie.

Predictable, without reading the books.
1 July 2010
I read up to the first 4 chapters in the original Twilight book before I sat it down and decided it was trash. My sisters said otherwise and I have taken them to Twilight and New Moon at the midnight premiers, so I held to the tradition and brought them to Eclipse.

Not having much faith in the movie as I had seen the first two and was not impressed at ALL, I got ready to take a nap. Instead after the first few boring scenes it kicked up (unlike in the other two) and we actually got more than 2 minutes of action.

The acting was better, but Bella and Edward both returned to their comatose state on screen while Jacob and the wolf tribe keep the life in the movie. I have to hand it to Rathbone for another good performance and wondered why he couldn't have played Edward, instead of listening to the wooden voice of Pattinson.

It had its good moments, ridiculous moments, points where the script sounded as if it were written for a nickelodeon kid's show, and scenes where you just want to scream at the characters. I would have liked to see Alice do more than just stand and have a premonition, and what happened with Esme? She was on screen for 10 seconds.

It was enjoyable, to say the least and probably the best of the series (so far). But then again, that's not saying very much. 5/10

Toy Story 3 (2010)
7/10
We Waited 11 years, and here it is!
18 June 2010
I just got back from a midnight showing and knew I must write my review, so here it is ladies, gentlemen and children of all ages...

Toy Story 3 has brought together all of our favorite characters once again in the last installment of the childhood film most of us have grown up on. While the 3-D effects are better than what I have seen in previous 3D movies this year, there was something a lot different about this film than the other.

It was dark, and lacked its 'gift' that Pixar always used to bring to us, which is the feeling of being a child again and smiling as we remember those days then when sometimes we wondered if our toys really did come alive. There are a few scenes (actually half the movie) is dark and definitely scary for a 4 year old. The humor is dry and I only laughed outloud 3 times, though everyone else was cracking up because of some drunk in the front row who constantly screamed.

I felt something was missing a well. Buzz Lightyear. No, he was in the movie. But he really did not make a "Last"ing impression on me and wished there was more to see. Also, same with the alien guys, "The claaaaaaaw!" The ending was good though, aside from some scary bits and highly disturbing images for small children, it rounded off nicely and finally lightened up much like a depressed person taking a prozac. I also kept wondering whatever happened to Sid, the demonic kid down the street...

In all honestly, I don't think this film deserves the super high rating it has gotten because it lacks the spark its previous two films had. I give it a 7/10. It was decent, but not the best out of the 3. That would have to go to the original Toy Story.

Great for the youth, not for those who love the original.
13 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I went into the theater expecting another installment of the Karate Kid with different aspects and maybe a great unpredictable ending. If you thought that as well, I suggest you don't get your hopes up. The movie, in almost every way possible, is alike to the original Karate Kid.

Jaden Smith is a good actor... in other movies. Same with Jackie Chan. And well, most everyone else in the movie.

The Karate Kid (2010) was a remake, depending on whether thats what it was aimed for, it was to the very last scene. It was enjoyable, but not great. My problem with it was that it was so long and lacked background to the movie and you're sitting there asking, "Okay? You mentioned this, and you're never going to bring it up again?" and then there's the predictability. My friends and I constantly leaned over, telling each other what was going to happen--as we had seen the original.

I prefer the original, but I do give props to the training and martial arts.

The A-Team (2010)
10/10
I love it when a great movie comes together
11 June 2010
The A-Team had been on my calendar for months now, and when I finally got my ticket I knew I would not be let down by this movie. The A-Team delivered every aspect of the show, capturing each of its themes and lines in a genius manner.

The non-stop action sequences made it hard to breathe, but never-the-less, proved to be spectacular. The entire movie I just kept thinking, "Whats the next plan? What are they going to do next?" While the movie is all based around the A-Team, the humor and great characters don't stop there. I already wish I could see it again.

The reason why this gets a 7/10 is because of the pace of the movie and constant action noise covering up dialog that I wished I didn't miss. Definitely a good start to a great summer.

Finally it ends.
26 May 2010
Shrek Forever After is a great movie to take your kids to go see. It has the dry humor, the silly moments, and of course every fairytale melted into one. It is not as entertaining for the adults as it was during the first two Shrek movies. There was nothing original about the humor as if we had already heard all the jokes before, and the repetitive themes were a little too much.

The effects were spectacular though, and would be even better to see in 3-D, as I did not. I recommend this to families-- and families only. If you are a teenager going with a bunch of friends, you probably won't like it as much, same to young adults. I give it a 5/10 due to lacking a passionate script.
