The Hills (2006)
Women everywhere cringe
For hundreds of years women have struggled for equality, Acceptance and to be treated like an intellectual equal. Progress was made and in this day and age women can vote, attain a full education and generally are every bit as equal as men in the eye of govt. Times moved on and women began to run huge organizations, play a vital part in the tech world and run media empires.
Then along came 'The Hills'. It spat in the eye of all that progress and says "HEY, Women really are dumb and you should absolutely objectify them". The Hills is a mental leap backward for women. DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS WATCH THIS DRIVEL.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Television at its best
I must admit, I was weary about watching this at first but others I trust told me I need to watch it. Since the first episode I am hooked. Having lost my father to Cancer I find it hard to watch this but the emotional roller coaster has been one hell of a ride. This story is raw, gritty and compelling. Acting is expertly done and Bryan Cranston is my true hero. He brought his extensive career and it really shows. I can pick no fault with any aspect of it so I wont even try criticize. If you are reading this because you want to know if its worth watching then stop right here and just watch it. If you are reading this for any other reason then know that I love this title and everything about it.
Mega Python vs. Gatoroid (2011)
Mega fun movie
OK, here's the deal. Don't expect The Green Mile or Shawshank Redemption here. This is a B Grade Comedy that is very creative and fun. If you have watched the Mega Shark series and want more then this is by far the best of the lot. Its fun, silly and the dialogue is positively hilarious.
I suggest: Watching this with kids Watching it while high / stoned watching it if you are very forgiving of low budget fun movies.
I watched this with a 6 year old it it really is a great way to have fun with the family. Kids love the animals and Adults love the absurdity. People that rate this movie badly are equating it to big budget movies. That's hardly fair bu whatever, If you fall into any of the above categories then give it a try and be forgiving when rating this.
When in Rome (2010)
pure drivel, stay well away
I can be a forgiving fellow when it comes to most movies but some are simply awfully written, directed and acted. This movie is pure and utter drivel with a silly story, one layer characters and crappy assumptions on life. The gags are awful, the sense of contrived storyline, sexist plot.....You know. I just cant write any more about it because it hurts to think about it.
Don't see it, don't spend any money on it and for the love of god warn people of how awful it is. Please, use the time to watch paint dry or grass grow.
I love Kristen Bell and I'm going to but this one down to being a bump in the road for her.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Strange show
So there were a few things about this movie that didn't make a whole pile of sense to me; > There were chapters.....Why?.... > Modern Music during.....Hardly scene setting? > Brad Pitt & Mike Myers were not in serious roles and sometimes I got the feeling they were about to start laughing. > Samuel L. Jackson narrated for 4 - 5 minutes. > The mutilation was far over the top to the point of unbearable. > Sheer fiction > Basterds isn't a word.
I sincerely get the feeling that Quentin couldn't stretch himself out of his usual format with this movie.
Scenes were sometimes long winded and a little pointless. Most roles in this movie were cameo's and there wasn't really a lead actor.
Like I said, I still don't get what this movie is trying to say but it reminded me an awful lot of Dr. Strangelove.
The Spirit (2008)
The Spirit of what....
OK, South Park nailed this one with "The Coon" episode. Poor dialogue, Awful acting, awful storyline, terrible characters, Samuel is his usual untalented self and its all sewn together with decent cinematography. Goons for octopus were the only entertaining parts.
The Spirit character talks to cats, wont die, skips along rooftops, enjoys a "robin" style mask (like seriously....), rants shite in silly little soliloquies and seems to be in love with the city and by "in love" I actually mean in love.
Overall a real stupid flick. Real stupid.
Sad attempts at sexism, super heroism, humour and filled with cheap tricks like photocopiers that have x-ray settings but to name a few.
The only reason I would recommend this movie would be for the cinematography and the rather talented special effects, sets and artists. They did a really good job of making this useless movie bearable.
Eragon (2006)
A complete steamer...
Filmed at a time when the world was a buzz about LOTR, this movie tried to compete by filming at scenic locations, played regular dramatic music, attempted unique costumes and over emphasized dialog. Seriously, crappy stunts, horrific acting, woeful storyline, unoriginal dialog, unoriginal, ridiculous language creation, really budget bad guys and the list goes on and on and on. Please don't inflict Eragon 2 on the world. Big waste of money. If this were released in the early 80's I would have perhaps said mediocre but in this day and age its one for the Kmart crap bin.
The days of the riders have not some again. They are long over and I imagine the suggested Eragon 2 release when the movie originally came out was pulled due to awful ratings. Lets face it, the anything that rates in the 5's on IMDb is a strict 'stay away'.
An Inconvenient Truth (2006)
Positive and not negative
Firstly I would ask all people who remark negatively upon this film 'What difference are you making?'. Secondly I would ask them to climb out of their bunkers and open their eyes.
This film is a documentary style film and not intended as a box office smash. It does not yield the appeal of Transformers or Spiderman and is intended as a factual, statistical & realistic explanation of what is happening in the world today. If you want special effects and a hero & heroine then you are mistaken so please don't comment on this title with such considerations in mind.
Al Gore is making a difference and if he uses political tactics to do so then it is only as a result of his profession. You know he did go for presidency and was ousted by a cretin. Perhaps this validates his honesty a little don't you think? Gore is a good speaker and captivates his audience. He knows how to get the message across and lets face it, his argument is as safe as gold in Fort Knox. Those who oppose are idiots and should wake up.
Make the difference if you can. If not, shut up!!!!
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
Painfully funny
You know that feeling that you get when you've been laughing so hard and your side hurts? Well this is one of those films. Its a total shock fest!! I'd just like to say to all the people that rate this film badly, You have no sense of humor or you are from Kazakhstan.
It is hilarious to the last. Its obvious that its pitched for a general Borat fan base new and long time followers as some stuff is repeated from earlier series episodes but the fun is all there. Its more of a tout at Americans than at Kazakhstan to be honest. How they react is what the film is all about! If it wasn't for their reactions it would not be as good so its not fair to say that this is not a good film. Its a well made, hilarious movie of a character that has many many more opportunities as far as sequels go.
A must for DVD Collectors and anyone with a good sense of humor.
The Planet (2006)
Pretty budget alright but worth the merit
I think its safe to say that if you only really watch box office standard films or any premium production don't bother with this film as you will hate it. If you are an overly critical film buff don't bother either. If you love science fiction films and don't care what capacity you get a glimpse of the future in then you'll be mildly entertained. It is very obvious that the budget for this was super super low but what they have done with the money is worth a pat on the back. Some of the burning fire scenes were pretty bad and the evacuation scenes were terrible but it is quite obvious that they had some good support from a computer perspective as the planet scenes and the alien images were quite inventive. The dialog is down right hilarious but acting not altogether poor. As for the story well, I'm not too sure what actually happened at all to tell you the truth.
The Simpsons Movie (2007)
An end of what is a truly burned out show
I was a huge Simpson's fan for years until they just clean ran out of story lines. So, they began to recycle other peoples story lines, Go completely absurd and just became not funny any more. This show is clutching at what the Simpson's once was while toying with a story line that was very boring and totally UN-inventive. To be honest, Its a product that is at the very end of a wonderful life as feint glow of what it was. A few laughs throughout but only a feint sparkle of what the show once was. I do not recommend this in the Cinema as it is of a TV standard only. You'll just be disappointed if you do. On a better note there are some closures to some story lines from the TV show and a few political stabs at the real world. Overall it gets a big thumbs down, Simpson's fans will watch it anyway and the show is geared to set the producers up with a final cash cow before the bitter end. Go spend the money on one of the earlier Seasons on DVD and you'll have spent your money much wiser.
Transformers (2007)
Prepare yourself for a graphical action packed masterpiece!!!
I'll never forget going to see the original 'Transformers; The Movie' in the late eighties and loving it then. Of course back then only cartoons could create such a title. 20 years later I could not realise how a tiny little piece of my mind had been neglected for so long. As the film progressed it woke that part of me that loves the story, the characters and all the action. Lets face it, Transformers are for the kid in all of us, the person that rates this badly has turned their back on that child. I however, have not.
So firstly, The cast of this film aren't amazing but Shia LaBeouf is a real character in this show. I've been a watcher of his for years and he is a naturally funny guy and a great choice for Sam. Having said that, its not about humans further than Sam. The Transformers are all without a doubt spectacular and created with such care and detail. I have never witnessed graphics of this nature on film or even on computer. Its simply a masterpiece as far as computer graphics go.
If I could change one thing in this film it would be the 'Armageddon' style music and camera work. They are 2 different films and should remain so. I felt a little let down by that but given the highs of this film the lows were leagues below.
If you are reading this and deliberating watching this stop reading and get it immediately. I will actually buy a HD TV and HD Video with surround sound just to play this title in HD and call it money well spent. God I cant wait for the next one.
Ghost Rider (2007)
Bad, oh SO bad...
Picture this, A father and son in a carnival doing daredevil stunts and one day his father is diagnosed with cancer. The devil turns up on the sons doorstep and offers him help in offer for his soul. This sets the scene for the comic which to be honest isn't the best of story lines for a hero story but it seems to work on paper. In Cinema its a different story altogether.
The cast for this film were poorly chosen as Nick seems to be a very powerful actor and has a great screen presence for many other genres but not this one. As the film progresses this comes more and more evident. The story line loses its way somewhere in the film and for some reason we have a hero and no real bad guy. This is kind of a fundamental to be honest and makes the whole film rather pointless.
There was not one redeeming feature in this film. This has to be some of the most terrible acting and story I have ever seen. Original comic was not done any justice and Nick Cage was horrific in this. The dialog was positively comical, I mean sometimes you could almost see the actors smirking as they say their lines. This has to be the worst of the worst for 2007 films by far. I was gutted I paid money to see it in the cinema...
