Terminal Invasion (2002)
Not bad at all...
Bruce Campbell stars as Jack, a convict who is being transported during a blizzard, unfortunately the car crashes and the police and him must hike to a nearby private airport that is shut down because of the blizzard and has a handful of angry customers who want to get out of there. Things go awry when people start disappearing and who is blamed? Of course Jack is, he is a convicted murder after all, but was it him?
The movie is basically borrows most of its originality from John Carpenter's the Thing but it really doesn't do that bad of a job of it. One redeeming quality of the movie was that the director, who directed the original Friday the 13th by the way, doesn't show the "creature" very much, which a lot of directors of todays big-budget horror movies could really learn something from.
Overall, this movie is a lot better then most of Sci-Fi's premiere movies and nearly all made-for-tv movies. Fans of Bruce Campbell should really enjoy this movie, as some of his humor of previous appearances play through in his character in this one.
Overall : 7/10
Frailty (2001)
Bill Paxton's awesome directorial debut.
Fenton Meiks (Matthew McConaughey) goes to the FBI to tell them he believes his brother is the "God's Hand" kill, the name for a string of murders in Texas. Fenton recalls when the murders began to happen, back in 1979. Fenton's father (Bill Paxton) had a vision while sleeping that God told him that demons are walking the Earth in human form and Fenton's father and others like him are the only ones to stop them. Fenton's father then takes up the task of killing these demons while embroiled in a fight with Fenton. Fenton however believes his father has gone crazy, though Fenton's brother, Adam, does not think so and believes what his father has told him.
Bill Paxton's directorial debut is great. He uses odd camera angles, sound effects, and very limited special effects to provoke a feeling. Paxton uses what he has, saying that the movie is relatively low budget for a theatre release, and really gives you a movie that you are going to think about after you have walked out of the theatre. Another great part of the movie is the soundtrack, it may not be the great piece of music ever written but it used very well.
Overall, this movie is a horror movie but not like the other horror films in the genre to come out this year, like Blade 2, Resident Evil, or Jason X. This movie was created to provoke emotion, not scare you, but it does both.
