Act of Valor (2012)
Real seals playing actor
Normally there are actors getting all the training to act as military personnel, here the military personnel had to learn how to act.
What Act of Valor brings you is real-life Navy Seals who have shared stories which are then implemented into the story.
*Spoiler* One of the seals gets shot in the eye during the rescue mission, this happened.
*Spoiler* Later on in the movie, a Seal throws himself on a grenade to save his buddies, again this really has happened.
So a number of these scenes are actually based on real things.
Due to the fact that actual Seals had to learn how to be an actor on screen, some most dialogue, apart from the action sequences, are a little weird and unnatural but if you can look past that it's pretty cool.
Lots of action scenes are shot during real training exercises which add a lot of realism to it.
The story itself is very basic and doesn't really stand out.
So all in all is it worth a watch, I definitely believe so. The blu-ray version is in my collection oh and did I mention that the Seals are actual Seals? How cool is that!
Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
What was the movie again?
I thought the first part was mildly OK at best.
By the time part 2 came out I had to re-watch part 1 again to even remember I'd seen it before, it left that much of an impression.
So yeah, part 2...
First 30 minutes in and I'm already terribly annoyed by the over use of slow-motion. Why so much!
The whole movie could be 30 minutes shorter if there was no slow-mo and if there are any slow-motion scenes, make sure the right stuff is slowed down. I understand slowing down scenes can add a thrilling element and it allows the graphic department to show what they can do with modern graphics but come on.
The story is as thin as tin foil. The acting is so-so, the effects are actually decent (when not unnecessarily slowed down) and the story... Nothing new there.
By any means, don't waste your time on this.
Fallout (2024)
Wicked and disappointing
I've got them all and played them all so I was hyper upon finding out there is a series coming.
They did an awesome job in replicating the details onscreen from the game.
The vault, the world, the music, the outfits, it's all 10/10. And the BoS armor, loved it.
The story is very well done and it will take you all the way though the first season before youfind out what it's all about, I liked that. 10/10.
Walton Goggins. Nobody could have portrait The Ghoul better than him. His performance is fantastic. 10/10
Unfortunately I can't say the same for Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten. I thought their performances were very cringe. 01/10.
Would I recommend this, absolutely.
Land of Bad (2024)
Finally another action movie for the men
If you want romance and witty humor you might want to pass on this one.
Finally there is a rather simple action flick without women-drama and poor attempts at humor, just bullets flying around, lots of 'm and some testosterone.
Throw in a decent cast like the Hemsworth brothers and mr. Crowe, some bad-ass gunslingers and a few bombs and you have Land of Bad.
Surely in my opinion it's not oscar material but it doesn't have to be to be entertaining.
I think this movie takes us back a little to the 80's and 90's when action flicks were very entertaining and also had an adult rating.
The story is a bit thin, nowhere near realistic in terms of how such a team would operate and/or behave but nevertheless I enjoyed this movie. You can just "switch-off". It's one of those movies I wouldn't mind watching again.
Hangar 10 (2014)
Interesting and underrated
I feel this movie is rather underrated.
It seems the couple do some treasure seeking using detectors as we find out that the lad has received some soft of certificate and that the next thing on their mind is to search around in Rendlesham forest to do some searching for lost treasure.
They invite a friend to document it all on his camera.
On their way the make some stops like some sort of roadtrip and find there is some unusual military activity in the area.
Quickly enough they are confronted by unexplained phenomena in the forest and the influence of otherworldly stuff is noticeable, for example on their gps locator.
And it gets worse from there on.
The dialogue is a little cheesy at times but the overall graphics aren't that bad at all.
Turn off your brain and you might find this flick enjoyable, at least I did.
Fainaru fantajî sebun adobento chirudoren (2005)
Fans of FF VII only
Final Fantasy VII, one of the best games ever (in my opinion).
It has a very interesting story worth going through.
Then this movie came out and I was blown away.
Absolute fantastic CGI, the follow-up story however was a bit weak for me, not something to be told in just 2 hours time but nevertheless i thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
I do believe it helps a lot if you played the game before watching the movie.
I wished the other characters had more screen time (I am a fan of Vincent :) ), the battle half-way through shows the majority of them but I wish a few had a bigger role in the movie.
People mentioned other FF games but they have nothing to do with the FF7 game or this movie.
Would I like another FF7 movie, hell yeah!
The Sandman (2022)
Downhill fast
I thoroughly enjoyed the first 4 episodes but alas, after that if went downhill fast.
It became slow and uninteresting. I also thought the characters in the second half were very badly cast.
I skipped like 80% of the last 3 episodes and just watched what I felt was relevant and interesting. Seems I didn't miss out on much.
